Open Any File/Program From Windows Start Menu’s Run Command

To open a windows tools from the Run command, you will have to learn some specific commands. To open Registry Editor you will  have to type regedit, for Command Prompt it is cmd, and so on. But what if you want to open 3rd party tools such as FileZilla, Steam, Thunderbird, or any application from Run Command?

AddToRun is a free portable utility for Windows that helps you to open any file or application from the Run command. It works by assigning friendly alias to an application or a file, when you enter this alias in the Run command it will automatically open that application or file.

First select the program, then type the alias, and click Add. It will notify you that the alias has been successfully added.

The downside was that the it would only save the resized picture in one image format only(JPG). What if you want to resize the image and save it in png, gif, or bmp format?

RightThumb is a free portable tool for Windows that adds an option to right-click context menu. This option allows you to create thumbnail of any image, it also contains few advanced preferences which allow you to select the image quality and format. Unlike Image Resize Powertoy, this tool works in all versions of Windows, except 95/98/ME.

Last year, we reviewed an app called Unlocker that can unlock any locked file instantly. To unlock a file, it kills the Windows process that is trying to lock it. But not all files are locked by Windows processes, some files could be locked due to a malware. So if you are using Unlocker, you will only be able to kill the malware process, but cannot delete it. My main homepage feed, at the moment of writing, is half full of useless application messages which has made it quite difficult to check friends’ real activities. How To Create A Bootable Live Ubuntu 9.04 USB Drive

Ubuntu 9.04 is the latest in line of Ubuntu Linux operating system, which is faster and has a more improved user experience. I have only 3 partitions on my hard disk, one for Windows Vista, one for Windows 7 beta, and one for my local files. I am used to 3 partitions maximum, since it looks less cluttered this way. Instead of creating a fourth partition, why not try installing it on a USB drive? Obviously, doing a proper install is better than doing a installation on USB, but since I don’t use Ubuntu much creating a fourth partition doesn’t make sense either.

For those having problems with bootable live CD, they can try creating a bootable live USB.

UNetbootin is a free portable tool for both Windows and Linux that lets you create bootable live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions. It also lets you do a quick ‘frugal install’, but we will only cover the procedures for creating a bootable live Ubuntu USB in this post.
