If you’ve been using a lot of project management apps, you will most likely be familiar with Basecamp, a popular online project management tool. For those unfamiliar with it, Basecamp is a premium tool used by companies and individuals looking for a way to organize their tasks and projects, assign them to others in their team, communicate with each other and keep track of ideas and meet deadlines. The service released a native app for the iPhone in the beginning of 2013 and nearly a year later has officially made its way to Android Basecamp. The app, which is available for free at the Google Play Store, will allow users to access and manage their Basecamp account and stay up to date with their Basecamp projects on the move. Akin to its web-based counterpart, the mobile app sports a simple interface and a set of really handy project management tools.
The Android app is free, but you will need to have a paid Basecamp account in order to use it. The pricing plans currently range from $20 to $150 per month, a grand annual package of $3000, offering unlimited use of almost everything, as well as a 60-day trial for those who want to give it a try before shelling out cash. Users who are new to Basecamp will have to sign up over the web since the app lacks a sign up option on its login screen.
Once logged in, you will be able to access your existing projects, post comments on discussions, upload files and view progress on current tasks. The app also lets you create and manage new tasks and to-do lists from scratch. The navigation menu, which can be dragged in from the left side of the screen, allows you to navigate to different areas of the application, namely a calendar showing daily events, your Basecamp profile as well as your activity timeline.
The Explore Basecamp section lets you create new content by tapping the ‘+’ button in the top-right corner. This lets you post a new message, upload an attachment, create a text document, add an event, etc.
