aremaC Is The Most Comprehensive Camera & Photo Editing App For iPhone

If you’ve been following me anywhere – AddictiveTips included – you may have guessed that I am a huge fan of photography apps for the iPhone. It’s not only because of my interest in photography, but also owing to the fact that the capable cameras on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S get really complemented by all the good apps out there in the iTunes App Store. AddictiveTips’ archives are full of brilliant photo apps, including the likes of Magic Hour and IncrediBooth, disposable camera replicas like Dotti, and Mosaic & Collage makers like Fotoyaki. Then there are feature rich photo editors like Pho.to Lab and Luminance, which let you tweak about any aspect of your photos, and capable camera replacement apps such as King Camera and TapShot, which can change the entire scope of how you handle your iPhone’s already-pretty-decent camera. What’s more, this is merely the tip of the iceberg, as the App Store is teeming with several other alternatives, many of which might be even better. Read More

Speaktoit Assistant: Worthy Siri Alternative For Android, Now Available On iOS

The iPhone 4S’ most advertised, and arguably most distinguishing, feature was Siri – the virtual personal assistant that you’d have either come to love or hate, if you’ve been interacting with her. Despite the beta tag that Siri carries, it works pretty smooth, and has been a cause of envy for most iOS users that didn’t have the iPhone 4S. On the jailbreak front, solutions like Spire Siri port piqued a lot of interest, but they remain heavily dependent on a lot of features (jailbroken device, for one, and working iPhone 4S keys for another). Then there have been apps like Dragon Dictation and Dragon Go!, but none really compared to Siri when it came to ease of use. Speaktoit Assistant, however, looks at changing that, and for good. DiskBench: Real-Life Hard Disk Benchmark Tool With Multithread Support

Disk benchmarking and information tools are a dime a dozen, and you’ll find so many of them out there that it becomes to make the right pick. We at AddictiveTips have ourselves covered a lot of such tools, generic and specific both, such as DHE Drive Info for detailed hard drive statistics, AS SSD Benchmark particularly for SSD drives, and even a guide on performing benchmark testing on your hard disk, USB drive and optical drive. The problem with most of these tools, however, remains the fact that they present you with synthetic benchmarking numbers, figures that you are most unlikely to meet in real life situations. For a more realistic and accurate measure of how your disks will perform in real time under stress, try DiskBench. It is a portable Windows application that uses your current filesystem to save, read and manipulate data. Details after the break. Read More

Scup: Cross-Platform Batch Audio Track Uploader For SoundCloud

Established in 2007, SoundCloud is arguably the most popular online audio distribution platform for collaboration, promotion and distribution of audio content by artists and music promoters. While the web version of the platform is a no brainer for anyone who is familiar with the service, we don’t usually come across a lot of desktop applications catering to SoundCloud. For that reason, when we stumbled across Scup (short for SoundCloud Uploader), we considered it worthy of being taken for a spin. In its essence, Scup is an Adobe AIR-based, cross-platform application that lets you upload multiple tracks to your SoundCloud account and create a set on the fly. The application supports specifying all necessary parameters, such as genre, set and track types, license, record label etc, making your sets ready for publishing in every sense. Read More

For all these purposes, and more, mpTrim is a nifty solution. JaxtrSMS: Send Free SMS To Any Local & International Mobile Number

Sending SMS messages to any local destination may not be a big issue for most mobile users, thanks to carrier offerings and smartphone applications that allow internet-based messaging even in cross-platform scenarios. However, two limitations/issues associated with such an approach usually exist. First, in most cases, the recipient has to be a user of the same app that you’re using (e.g., Viber or TextFree), and second, the same app may not be available for one particular mobile platform, thus greatly reducing usability for the users of said OS. Enter JaxtrSMS – a free, cross-platform application that not only provides diverse platform compatibility, but also lets you send text messages to virtually any mobile number on the planet, irrespective of whether the recipient uses JaxtrSMS or not. Details to follow after the break. Read More

ICaughtU Uses iPhone Front Camera To Snap Photo On Incorrect Passcode

Smartphones replaced a lot of things in our lives with their advent; portable media players, handheld gaming devices, personal information managers (PIMs) and contact books are just a few of the categories that got combined in one smartphone, handling everything from communications to information management to entertainment. Apple’s iPhone, being the most popular choice for smartphone owners as of now, is no exception, and perhaps more prone to data theft than others, as the basic protection it offers is plainly a passcode. What if you want to enhance the security on your device with, say, identity of the thief (or attempting thief, to be exact)? Well, if you’re jailbroken and having a front-camera equipped iOS device (iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G or iPad 2), you’re in luck, because ICaughtU jailbreak tweak aims to do just that. Enable iOS 5′s Android-Like Autocorrect Keyboard Without Jailbreak

A while back, we brought to you a roundup of 12 lesser known iOS 5 features, highlighting some niceties in Apple’s latest iteration of the operating system that were either not well-advertised, or skipped the users’ notice due to being well hidden within the system. Turns out, the era of hidden features continues, with the latest addition being the possibility of having an Android-like autocorrect bar over the keyboard. Unlike most hidden features, turning on the autocorrect bar is not a simple matter of navigating the Settings app to hit a toggle switch; it requires careful modification of the keyboard Plist file and a little courage to get the trick done. To top it all off, it works on non-jailbroken devices as well! So, if you’re a fan of Android’s way of suggesting alternate words, or would just like to enable the feature because you can do so (like we did), get your tweaking hats on and hit the jump to find out how. Fix iMessage/FaceTime & Push Notifications On Hacktivated iPhone 4/3GS

iOS 5 brought with it a plethora of new features, including the infamous iMessage that allowed users to communicate with any other iOS 5 device over a WiFi/mobile data connection, effectively eliminating the cost of carrier SMS plans. While highly appreciated and useful, iMessage was something jailbroken users remained envious of, particularly those on unofficial carriers, since iMessage requires activation with iTunes before it can be used. Hacktivating your iOS 5 device bypasses that, and while you can use your iPhone 4 or 3GS, features like iMessage, FaceTime and push notifications remain unavailable unless you’re willing to pay for solutions like PushFix and MiTime. This all changed with SAM (Subscriber Artificial Module), which allows you to activate your iPhone using legitimate certificates generated through iTunes. Advantage? You get fully working push notifications, FaceTime and iMessage (iOS 5 only) without needing to spend a single buck. Read on after the jump to find out how. Read More
