It also includes a number of features to extend the functionality of your device. The developer has fixed a number of issues in this Android ROM to make it more stable and fast.

Darky’s ROMs have established a huge following due to their success and innovation in the custom ROM community. This ROM offers huge advantage over the stock ROMs in terms of its interface and additional features not available in the stock ROM. This version is the latest by the developer for Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Captivate. It is probably the fastest Froyo ROM with Gingerbread looks.

Well now it’s a reality as anyone can successfully root the LG Optimus 2X using Z4root. Z4root is a powerful app capable of rooting your phone with a single click.

LG’s Optimus 2X is a dual core NVIDIA Tegra2 powered phone with a 4” screen and 8Gb of onboard storage making it the most powerful Android phone around at the moment. If you are a proud owner of one, this guide will allow you to gain root access on your device and run apps requiring root functionality as well as flash custom ROMs to it. Z4root is the app that will allow you to gain root functionality. Z4root has been successfully installed on various phone platforms.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process

Instructions:

The method is same like the one we covered previously for rooting Galaxy S and other Android phones:

The first step is to download Z4root file from here, unzip the APK and save it on your desktop.

Once done, connect your phone to the computer, mount SD card and copy the APK file to SD card root.

Now launch Market on your phone and download a file manager of your choice. We recommend going with Astro File Manager.

Once you are done downloading the file manager, launch it and browse to the location of the Z4root APK file you earlier copied to SD card root.

Tap on the Z4root APK file and install it using the on-screen instructions of your file manager.

Once the app is installed on your phone, launch it and tap on the root button.

Wait for the process to finish and reboot your device once it is done.

And that is all – now you have root access on your LG Optimus 2X.

Now disconnect the device from the power source and open the registry editor [download link for registry editor given below].

Go to the reg path.

Change the value from 6 to 20 and press ok. You will see that the battery indicator level has changed.

Again go to the reg path and change the value from 20 to 80 and press ok.

Restart your phone and connect to the A/C charging till it charges to maximum.

If you have CyanogenMod 7 installed but need a stock Android launcher, Frank’s CM7 Stock Gingerbread Mod is what you need. This Mod should be installed after installing CyanogenMod 7 ROM and Google Apps for CyanogenMod 7. Instructions can be found below after the jump.

We have been covering the CyanogenMod custom ROM installation instructions for various devices in our previous posts. CyanogenMod used ADW launcher as its apps launcher. Using the following instructions you can replace the ADW launcher with the Stock Gingerbread launcher. Also Frank’s CM7 Stock Gingerbread ROM includes the supercurios script, which increases the read/write speeds. The supercurios script will run at every boot so you don’t have to run the script manually. In addition a few apps are added and removed from the CyanogenMod ROM and are listed below. We thank the valued member of XDA-Developer frank707 for this Rom.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

Instructions:

This Mod needs to be installed after every install, upgrade or update of the CyanogenMod, as the modifications are reverted back to the default ADW launcher. For instructions regarding the installation of CyanogenMod, refer to our earlier posts.

First download Frank’s CM7 Stock Gingerbread ROM from the link given below.

Now reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery. Use volume rocker for navigation in this mode.

Install CyanogenMod 7.x.x [see our earlier posts on installing CyanogenMod 7 ROM, if you do not know how to do this]

Install CyanogenMod Gapps [you can read the installation instruction and grab it from here]

Install the downloaded Frank’s CM7 Stock Gingerbread Rom.

If you want to install custom ROMs, then you will need root access for installation.

LG is a late entrant in the Google Android community, as LG had earlier delayed the launch of their first Google Android mobile phone. LG Optimus V has been launched through Verizon, Sprint, T-mobile, US Cellular and MetroPCS. Using this guide you will be able to root the Optimus V and then have the option of installing Custom ROMs and apps requiring root access. Rooting your phone does not remove the Virgin Mobile’s boot animation since the hack is based on the LG Optimus S ROM.

There is a new alternative ROM available for the Viewsonic GTab besides TnT Lite, known as the GAdam. This ROM is based on the Notion Ink Adam firmware and has been released by XDA-Developer forum member roebeet. If you want to install it to your tablet, please continue reading.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

Viewsonic GTab stock firmware is quite buggy and slow for such a powerful and feature rich device. This has forced the tech enthusiasts using this device to turn to custom ROMs with much better user interface and speed boost over the stock firmware. One of the most popular custom ROM for this device is the TnT Lite firmware and now, there is good news for GTab owners as another custom ROM is now available for the GTab by the name of GAdam. This ROM is based on the Notion Ink Adam tablet firmware that has already been ported to a number of other Tablets as well.

This ROM features several enhancements over the stock ROM including Flash player, Google Apps, Youtube app, Home Switcher app, Live Wallpapers and Ad hoc networking. Furthermore, several performance and usability tweaks have also been added.

This firmware is still in alpha stage and will also flash your device’s kernel/system so you must be careful and know what you are doing. You will also have to wipe your data after you flash this ROM, so ClockworkMod is required. The following video demonstrates this ROM running on a Viewsonic G Tablet.

Installation Instructions:

In case you don’t have ClockworkMod Recovery already installed, download it from the link given below and install it to your device using our guide on how to install a custom recovery to an Android device. Next, download the firmware from the link given below and copy this zip file to your SD card. Then simply flash the ROM to your device from recovery. Once the ROM has been flashed, wipe data/factory reset and reboot.

Download NI Adam firmware version 1.0.0 alpha4

This is the latest Beta version of the CyanogenMod 7 for HTC Hero built entirely from the source. We have been covering this ROM for a number of phones (see our earlier posts regarding CyanogenMod 7) due to its popularity and stability. Anyone interested in trying out the latest Beta 2 version before the release of the final version can give it a try.

CyanogenMod 7 brings the goodness of Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread to users still using the Android 2.2 Froyo version. CyanogenMod is one of the most popular custom ROMs available to the Android community due to its stability, speed and features not even available in most other custom ROMs. You can read more about the latest CyanogenMod builds by following our feature on CyanogenMod 7 nightly builds.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

The installation requires a rooted device along with ClockworkMod Recovery 3 or later to work. If you haven’t done so, follow our guide on how to root your device and also install ClockworkMod Recovery 3 using ROM Manager. You can then download the ROM from the link given below and flash it from recovery. Before flashing, make sure to perform a backup from recovery and wipe the contents of data and cache.

Once you have installed the ROM, you can also flash the latest version of Google Apps available for CyanogenMod 7 at the time of writing this post. Just download it from the link given below and flash it from recovery.

If you want to overclock your Fascinate while fixing some of the problems with its original kernel, read on for more details and installation instructions.

This kernel applies only to the Verizon’s variant of the Samsung Galaxy S dubbed as the Verizon Fascinate and will not work on other Samsung Galaxy S Series devices. Developed by XDA-Developers forum member comradesven, this kernel is based on jt1134’s recent kernel with the Voodoo sound patch and also includes the new red Voodoo-aware ClockworkMod recovery.

In addition it also includes the fix to disable the VZW battery check, allowing batteries for the other Galaxy S phones and third party batteries to work on the Fascinate. Lastly, it also has the SirGatez’s USB fix applied to it for the phone being recognized as a CD drive.

FrankenKernel comes in two variants – a regular one with 7 speed overclocking and another version that has been undervolted to consume less power and give a longer battery life.

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

To install this kernel, just the version of your choice from the regular and undervolted kernels linked below and either flash it to your phone using Odin or use our previously featured app Tuxility that lets you flash and backup a kernel as well as perform several other maintenance functions directly on your phone without having to connect it to a computer.

This is a guide for permanently rooting a T-mobile G2 with Visionary / gfree without the use of ADB. First we use visionary program to achieve the temporary root, followed by gfree to gain permanent root. This procedure has been tested on G2 but should also work with Desire Z as well.

Powered by the Qualcomm processor, HTC Desire Z also known as the T-Mobile G2, is one of the best slider keyboard Android phones available in the market. The procedure of permanently rooting the phone is a two step process. The first step involves the Visionary program (named after the phone HTC Vision / G2) to achieve temporary root and then followed by gfree to achieve permanent root. In case you have done an OTA upgrade to version 1.72 then first downgrade the firmware to the original flash ROM. The credit for this guide goes to XDA Forum Senior Member ianmcquinn.

Instructions:

The first step is to install Terminal Emulator and a file manager from the Marketplace, such as, Astro file manager.

Now insert the SD card to your computer and unzip the “root_files.zip” file (download link given at the bottom of this post) to this SD card (a directory will be created called root_files on the card). When done, unmount the SD card from your computer. Make sure that all the extracted files are directly inside the root_files folder and not in another subfolder inside it.

Enable unknown sources (under Settings –> Applications) and USB Debugging (under Settings –> Applications –> Development).

Using the file manager (we are using Astro file manager), navigate to the root_files directory on the SD card (created in step 2), and select “com.modaco.visionaryplus.r14.apk” to install the Visionary app.

Launch the Visionary app and click on “Temproot now”. Leave the other settings unchecked.

Start the terminal app and type the following commands:

$ su

# cp /sdcard/root_files/perm_root /data/local/perm_root

# chmod 777 /data/local*

# /data/local/perm_root

Here is the terminal output of these commands that you should see during this process.

The first command changes the rights to super user, the second command copies files to the directory /data/local/perm_root, the third command changes the rights of files in data/local, and the last command launches the script.

As the program is executed you will see a number of messages scroll by. Once you are returned to the prompt in terminal, you will have permanent root, as well as subsidy unlock and Super CID. Your phone is now rooted and you can verify having permanent root by holding the Volume down while powering on the phone (see S-OFF in the first line of the bootloader) or by installing SuperUser app from Android market.
