Now its easier to manage and organize your PowerPoint 2010 presentations with the help of Sections. Sections lets you organize your slides, much like you would use folders to organize your files. You can use named sections to keep track of groups of slides, or you can assign sections to co-workers to make ownership clear during collaboration.

Lets see how we can add sections to our presentations. Its pretty easy, launch the PowerPoint presentation, right click the Slide and choose Add Section option from the context menu.

Now a new section will be added with name “Untitled Section”. Whatever slides you will create, will be categorized under this section. You can start another section in the presentation by the same way. Once the section is added, right-click its title bar and choose Rename Section.

Specify the new name and click Rename.

That’s it, the particular section will be renamed. Now you can easily create, differentiate and manage your slides within the presentation.

Whenever you receive a new email, Outlook 2010 displays a desktop alert. If you wish then you can also disable this desktop alert. But it is useful in many cases, lets see how we can change the default settings of new email alert.

Click the File (Office) button and choose the Options and them navigate to the Mail option in the left side column and click the Desktop Alert Settings button under the Message Arrival section.

The Desktop Alerts Settings dialogue box will be displayed, now make changes to the new email message settings like Duration and Transparency by moving the slider and adjusting the values you feel suitable. Duration specifies the time new email alert stays on the desktop.

It is often the case that you want to receive replies to your emails on a different email address than that from which you originally sent the email; in such a scenario we will just make the appropriate settings in Outlook.

First of all launch Outlook and hit the New Message option. Once the New Email message window is opened, click the Options tab and then Hit the Direct Replies To option under the More Options Section.

Now under Delivery Options, make sure that the Have replies sent to check box is checked. Then specify the email address that replies are to be sent to or click the Select Names button to select the person from your contacts.

Now the replies to this particular email will be send to the chosen email address.

Searching any particular file could be a real hectic process if your hard disk is large and full of random data. Catfish for Ubuntu lets you perform versatile search operations throughout your file system.

Simply launch the terminal and run the following command to install it:

sudo apt-get install catfish

Once the installation is over, go to Applications > Accessories > Catfish to launch it.

Here specify your search terms and limit the search results configuration. The most important part is the Folder option where you can specify where the search should be performed, specifying the File System means that the searching will be carried out through out your whole system. You can also specify the search method of your choice from the Search Method option. The available options are find, locate, and tracker.

By default, it includes many pre-configured system wide keys to launch commonly used applications like the Internet Explorer, Calculator, System Properties etc.

To add a new hotkey, click the New Hotkey option, then specify the Description, Key and the Application to launch(or Folder/Document to open). Please note that the Hot key combination include the Windows key, a letter or number, and can also include any combination of Alt, Control, and Shift. For Example, lets say that I wish to open the “Addictivetips.doc” located in the D drive of my laptop with the Windows + A hotkey, then here is how I can achieve it.

To be more explanatory, I select Windows from the check box, choose A from the drop down list and then Choose Open a Document in the I want WinHotKey to option. At the end, I will browse and select the location of the file to be launched. Similarly If you wish to launch any application by using some particular hotkey, then choose the Launch an Application option in the I want WinHotKey to drop down list.

The following list of tasks can be assigned to a WinHotKey.

Launch an application

Open a Document

Open a Folder

Automatically type some text

Control the current Window

Jjust select the hotkey and hit the Edit Hotkey option to edit any particular hotkey. The Remove Hotkey option removes any configured hotkey.

Download WinHotKey

It works perfectly on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003/2008. Enjoy!

If you are working in such type of network envoirnment where the IP assignment is set to dynamic, then IP Tray can be useful for you. It sits in the system tray and upon mouse hover, it displays the current IP address of your system along with the hostname. You can also copy the IP address information to the clipboard. This can be useful for those who switch on their computer only to find that their IP address has changed. We know that constant changing of IP addresses can be a headache and frustration that we all have to deal with. If you are at home, then it can be solved by changing IP assignment from dynamic to static. But if you are in a work environment, like large enterprise companies, then this nifty little utility will come very handy.

As you can see from the screenshot below, you will find a small icon on the system tray. You can set IP Tray to start during system startup by putting it in the Startup folder which can found in the Start Menu or by navigating to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup (instead of going there manually, you can copy and paste this in Windows Explorer and it will take you directly to the startup folder).

When you hover your mouse over the icon, it will show you the Host computer name and IP address. Right-click the icon in the system tray and select “Copy IP to Clipboard” option, it will copy the current IP address to the clipboard from where you can paste it anywhere you want. Clicking “Show” will display the window as you can see below.

The app also comes with a transparent background.

Download IP Tray

It is very easy to install and uninstall the app. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 2003/2008 Server.

For the novice users let me first clarify what is Whois information, it is the information relevant to the domain which specifies the registration details of the particular domain, like which registrar is holding that domain, which name servers and IP is assigned. It becomes useful for troubleshooting various issues regarding DNS and Domain propagation. Whois Lookup is a portable application for Windows which lets you get the Whois details of any site.

It displays the information in cool looking frames. Simply specify the domain name and then hit the Look up/Search button. It will display the domain’s Whois details along with the status like whether the domain name is taken or not. If the domain name is taken it will preview it as well so users can check if it is a parked domain or an active domain.

Download Whois Lookup

It works on all versions of Windows, including the latest Windows 7.

In many cases we have to compare two Word documents, having them side by side is vital for comparison. You could open both the documents in separate windows and snap them in Windows 7, but this is a time consuming task. You can place two documents side by side within a single window without the fuss using Word 2010′s build-in feature.

First of all be sure to open both the documents that you wish to compare. Once done, go to any one of them and navigate to the View Tab on the ribbon.

Now under the Window section, select the View Side by Side option.

You will find both the documents opened side by side. Now perform whatever comparison you want.
