While LG themselves have not mentioned any plan for upgrading the device to Gingerbread as of yet, it does not mean the device will not be tasting it. Read on for details.

It should be noted that this ROM is still under development and some hardware functionality is still missing. Below mentioned bugs have been noted while everything else mostly works on the device:

FM-Radio not working

Tethering via USB/WiFi not possible yet. Normal WiFi is Ok.

Call via bluetooth headset not yet functional

Manual operators search not working , automatic search is fine.

Media button at headsets, if available, do not work

Camera Zoom doesn’t work.

Here’s how to get CM7 up and running on your LG Optimus One P500:

Now that your phone is rooted, download the ClockworkMod Recovery image from above and extract its contents to the root of your SD card (not in any sub-folder).

Enable USB Debugging on your phone from Settings > Applications > Development and connect it to your computer via USB.

Launch a Command Prompt / Terminal window on your computer and enter the following commands:

cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock5 /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
reboot recovery

XDA-Developers forum member tyween has brought this port to us with the following features:

No Custom apps, all apps included that come stock with CM7

3G / Data

Audio

Bluetooth

GPS (diem fix) (/system/etc/gps.conf configured for US)

Wi-Fi

Phone

Camera (5MP)

Volume Up/Down rocker camera control

Camcorder (800×480)

720P video playback

Hosts file to stop most web ads.

USB File Transfer

ADW Launcher (CM7 Stock)

Native WIFI Tethering with or android-wifi-tether

Wired Tethering with android-wired-tether

LED Notification

A2SD+

IEEE 802.1x/EAP authentication

Adjustable CPU voltage via /system/etc/init.d/98cpu_voltage This can help overclocking stability and battery usage.

Since the port is still undergoing development and troubleshooting, below are some of the issues you can expect:

High battery drain in bluetooth standby (60mAh)

Auto backlight does work but custom auto backlight levels do not due to conflict with LED notifications in the library.

Blurry MMS: Set UserAgent to “NexusOne” in messaging.

MMS Max Size: This can be adjusted if you use handcent messaging, not within the stock messaging app.

Robotic voice with audible touch tones. Enable audible touch tones and then make a call, turn on speaker phone, then turn it off. Make another call and it should be fine. Reboot to save changes.

Here’s how to get this ROM up and running on your HD2:

Got a Samsung Captivate and found yourself unable to reboot it into recovery and download modes using the three button combinations that are standard for Samsung Galaxy S Series devices? Don’t fret and give up hope on yours, as we now have a way to easily enable these combinations again once they have been disabled. For more information and the complete procedure, read on after the jump!

Samsung hasn’t exactly been known to be excessively protective about their Android devices, as they ship with an unlocked bootloader (though no fastboot mode) and allow easy installation of custom kernels, recoveries and ROMs out of the box using tools like Odin. Though lately – and most likely due to carrier pressure – they have introduced a protection method to bar users from attempting the above, by disabling the three button combo that helps a user boot into recovery and download modes. If you’re one such user who has suffered this fate either by buying a device with this combination disabled, or having it no longer working after a software update, and cant seem to get the best out of your Samsung Captivate because you’re stuck with stock ROM, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a step by step tutorial to flash the PDA file of the phone and get your 3 button combo back!

Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.

Requirements:

Samsung USB Drivers installed. (Windows 32-bit | Windows 64-bit)

<del>PDA File</del> No longer applicable since Gingerbread upgrade; file not available anymore.

Odin & PIT Files

Procedure:

Download the Windows USB drivers and install them.

Reboot your PC.

Download the PDA, Odin & PIT files linked above.

Extract executable EXE from ‘Odin.rar’ downloaded above and run it.

Select the PDA file for the PDA tab inside Odin.

Select the PIT file for the PIT tab inside Odin.

Click Start to complete the flash.

You should now be able to use your 3 Button Combo to boot into recovery or the download mode and perform customization of any sort.

Update: Ever since the official update to Gingerbread was released, this became obsolete, as this hack will not work on Gingerbread ROMs, and shouldn’t even be required. The developer has since removed the file from their server and it’s no longer available for those of you still on Froyo.

For any issues or queries, please head over to the XDA-Developers forum thread.

The feeling gets a lot worst if what it was supposed to do was boot into the operating system or in some terminal cases, not boot at all. Most of these times, the hardware itself is fine, its just some firmware level issue not letting the phone boot normally.

If you have just experienced any of the above described feelings and the feelings were inculcated by a Samsung Captivate, we’re here to tell you there is still hope. You can still have your phone back to normal if you follow the below mentioned steps:

Requirements:

Samsung Drivers Installed. ( Windows 32-Bit | Windows 64-Bit )

Procedure:

Download the above mentioned drivers for your PC.

Install and reboot your system.

Plug in your USB cable to your phone and computer.

Open Odin.

Remove the battery , SIM card and SD card.

Put the battery back in.

Press and Hold Volume Down + Volume Up + Power button to enter Download Mode.

Click Start and let Odin restore your firmware.

Your Captivate should now be restored back to its Factory Android state!

If it worked for you, do thank the XDA-Developers forum member designgears on the thread. Any issues during the upgrade or help later on can also be found on the XDA Developers forum thread.
