Do you often feel the need to save web pages while surfing for quick access later, or to archive important information? Or maybe, you are a teacher who wishes to refer articles to students in a convenient manner? Whatever the case may be, you definitely need to install Save Content to Box, Google Drive & Dropbox, a handy extension for Google Chrome users that allows you edit and save web pages as PDF or text file to your Box, Google Docs or Dropbox account directly from Chrome. No more copy and paste needed, and unlike a bookmark, you have your own copy of the content, preserved in the form that you saw it in. It not only gives freedom to save web pages to these services, but also helps you to clean (remove unwanted content) the web page before saving. You may also utilize social media platform to share the articles on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn directly from the extension, too.

The extension can be installed from Chrome Web Store. It prompts with a notification, seeking permission to access your data on all websites, tabs and browsing history. The successful installation will be indicated by appearance of a cloud icon on the Omnibar.

The usage is very simple and intuitive. Activate the extension by clicking the cloud icon, and it will load an iFrame on top of the page you’re currently browsing, with options to save or print web pages.

It automatically removes headers, footers and all the clutter, and leaves only text and images from any page. You can also remove images from web documents before saving to other places.

The extension comes with a range of options to optimize the content with editing tools, in order to have a desired output. The built-in editing tools let you change font size, remove unwanted images and text or add a note to your content before saving. Made any change by mistake? Don’t worry, it has option to undo and re-display the content you removed.

The extension gives an option to convert pages to PDFs before saving, or to save them as text files. If you wish your documents to contain images, PDF is certainly the better way to save. While you can always save pages to your computer, it will be beneficial to save them directly to cloud services like Dropbox, Box and Google Drive, in order to have access to these documents any time you want, from any device. You can also opt for printing options (Print & Google Cloud Print). You can even mail the document directly, too.

That’s not all; Clean Save also comes with variety of options to allow you to share the article with your friends and colleagues. You can directly share the link on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+.

The developers of the extension call it ‘Clean Save’, due to its potential for ‘cleaning and saving web pages’.

Overall, a really good extension for saving online content in the format of your choice, directly to cloud services. Although Chrome has inbuilt functionality to print pages as PDFs, the extensions comes with a variety of options to not only edit the page before doing so, but to also save them as both PDF and Text File (Word document) to Box, Dropbox and Google Drive. It’s ideal for business professionals, students and educators, or anyone gathering information related to a project or interest. With a huge range of choices and smooth service, it certainly aims to grab attention of users.

If you don’t believe us, you need to check it out yourselves.

Did you ever experience a moment when you wanted to download all images on a web-page instantly? While looking for unique quality images, we often explore different image hosts and libraries, such deviantART, Picasa, PhotoBucket etc. However, executing searches on all these sites and downloading images separately can be quite inconvenient. We have already covered a desktop application called Image Collector for image collection enthusiasts who may be interested in getting hold of exotic images from online galleries such as Picasa, deviantART, imgur, PhotoBucket and 4Chan. However, the caveat was that it was restricted to only these few websites. Image Collector Extension for Google Chrome, however, solves your problem for all webpages. This extension allows you to retrieve the script file to grab gorgeous images on the page you’re just visiting and to save them to your PC, or upload them directly to your Dropbox or Google Drive.

The extension can easily be installed from Chrome Web Store. On the permissions front, it seeks to access your data on all websites, tabs and browsing history. The successful installation will be indicated by the display of an icon in address bar, which will be used to grab images.

Now you’re ready to go with having a huge collection of images. However, before that, you may want to check out the extension’s options. You can specify the filtering options by selecting file extension, excepted patterns and minimum size. It also allows you to exclude thumbnails from images-to-be-downloaded, and embed the URL of each image and tab name into the saved file’s name.

The extension comes with the choice of deciding the destination folder for images, where you can even connect with Dropbox and Google Drive as the save location. If chosen Dropbox, the app will create a folder named Image Collector Server in your Dropbox. The app will have access to only this folder. However, if you chose none of these options, then the images will be downloaded in your local hard drive in Downloads (where Chrome usually downloads stuff).

With everything set up, whenever you get to visit a website having images that satisfy your selection criteria, the extension’s icon will be displayed to the right of the address bar. After clicking this, a pop-up is displayed, giving you choice of extracting the desired images. At the same time, the script can also be downloaded. All images are saved to your PC.

You can even share the images directly on Facebook and Twitter from the options window.

To have images from deviantART, the minimum height in options of extension should be set as 100 pixels. That’s it, you’re ready to save th0se captivating images of deviantART with just one click.

It should, however, be kept in mind that extension only takes the results shown per page. To have more results shown on one page, you can make use of another Chrome extension, gInfinity, which we have already reviewed. It eliminates the requirement to navigate to next pages in Google search results, by pulling as much as up to 100 results on the first page.

Overall, an awesome extension for all those who’re passionate to have amazing image collections. Do check it out and let us know how you found it.

Bookmarks can be of a great use for not only saving web links to check later, but also to have quick access to frequented websites through the Bookmark Toolbar. Almost all browsers come with some sort of bookmarking facility - some more comprehensive than others. However, what most of these offer by default is bookmarking, sorting and categorizing at best, but that’s pretty much it. To gain better control over your bookmarks, you may want to check out Bookmarks Permissions. It is a security add-on for Firefox that allows you to set specific permissions for individual bookmarks, which override global permissions. The add-on gives you the ability to enable or disable certain aspects of a website, like images, pop-up windows etc, to make your browsing experience smooth. Blocking specific items can also help you navigate to your favorites faster.

The add-on requires restarting the on-going Firefox browsing session in order to complete installation. However, after that, you are ready to take command of your bookmarks. You can bookmark any webpage easily utilizing the keyboard shortcut ‘Ctrl+D’, and then you can define specific settings by going to Bookmark Properties of each starred item, or by viewing the Bookmark Manager (Ctrl+Shift+B).

The following five permissions can be set individually for every bookmark: Images, Redirect, Plug-ins, Javascript, and Frames. For each of these, you get three standard options, Don’t Care, Disable and Enable. Don’t Care is the default setting for each bookmark, which simply means that the global permission is being used.

To check the results, I defined the settings shown above for your favorite AddictiveTips. The original website looked thus:

After blocking images and JavaScript, it looked like the screenshot below. The website was also accessed in a faster way.

One thing to note here: if JavaScript is enabled globally, it can be disabled for specific bookmarks, but that doesn’t work the other way around, which means that the add-on cannot turn on JavaScript for a bookmark if it is turned off globally. Also, the add-on works only if the bookmark is reopened (within the same tab) after defining settings, or opened in a new tab.

The add-on was originally released four years ago for Firefox 6, and has recently been updated to make it compatible with all versions of Firefox, hence allowing all Firefox users to enjoy this facility. We have yet to find a similar extension for Chrome, so if any developers are reading, this might be your cue.

Have you ever had one of those instances where you really needed to open a Word document, but didn’t want to fire up Microsoft Office and waste precious system resources? Or did you experience events when you wanted to edit an image but had no desire to install Photoshop or any specific software? Open IT Online, an extension/add-on for all major browsers, does it all for you! This utility enables you to open and edit your files in the browser window, as opposed to downloading the file and opening it via an external application. Open IT Online Lite integrates Google Docs Viewer, Zoho, View Docs Online and Vuzit for documents, and Pixlr, Sumo Paint, Picnik and Snipshot for images. You no longer need to have any software installed to view and edit documents, spreadsheets, presentations etc, or to edit any image.

Open IT Online is compatible will all famous browsers, including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Opera 11, allowing users with varying preferences and browser-bias to open and edit documents from all over the globe. Apart from being more comfortable for the user, the fact that these browsers are what you’d usually find on almost any machine, makes Open IT Online truly universal.

Essentially, instead of having users download files to their computer and using a local, offline editor to view and edit them, Open IT Online renders your desired documents and images using an online editor. The extension allows users to open and edit the following:

Documents (*.doc, *.docx, *.rtf, *.odt, *.sxw)

Spreadsheets (*.xls, *.xlsx, *.csv, *.ods, *.sxc)

Presentations (*.ppt, *.pptx, *.pps, *.odp, *.sxi)

Images (*.jpg, *.gif, *.png)

As stated above, rather than enlisting an independent proprietary platform, Open IT Online makes use of already trusted and tested names in the game, including the likes of Google Docs, Zoho, View Docs Online, Vuzit, Pixlr, Picnik, Snipshot, and Sumo Paint, for both documents and images.

Using the tool is fairly simple. Right-click any document’s link from within your preferred web browser, hit Open Document with Open IT Online from the context menu, and select which service you’d like to use.

I chose Google Viewer to open a test document, the output of which you can see below. Do note that all the editing options of Google Viewer are available, despite it being an external, third-party document.

Likewise, you may follow suit for images, whereby the extension automatically detects the nature of your selection, and populates the context menu list with online image editors instead of document viewers in this instance.

I chose Pixlr for my testing, as you can see in the screenshot below.

Unfortunately, Open IT Online will not open documents attached to a web-based email message, so we hope developers will add this feature in future versions. Nonetheless, this extension can be a very handy tool to keep in your arsenal.

Are you a Pocket (formerly known as Read It Later) user and searching for a quality-extension to save links right from the browser to access later? Then Aside, with tags and context menus, is just the right extension for you. It is a handy extension for Google Chrome designed for the users of Pocket, allowing them to add new web pages to a reading list. The website’s URL will be saved in your Pocket account. The extension’s popup window allows you to edit the tags before saving it to the list, and lets you open your reading list in a separate tab. More after the jump.

With a focus on saving time, “read later” services have recently seen a popularity explosion. There are a number of services out there that let you save articles to read later, but Pocket stays on top of the list, owing to the fact that apart from a friendly and function web app, the service boasts free apps for iOS and Android, making is easier to even save weblinks for later reading on the go. Add to the mix the fact that saved content is available offline, and stripped of all nuisances like advertisements, sidebars, headers/footers and other necessities of a typical website, and you get a pretty solid deal. However, what the official version of Pocket lacks is a quick method of saving pages directly to your pocket account from anywhere on the web, and this is where Aside Chrome extension comes in useful.

Aside can be installed from the Chrome Web Store. It prompts with a notification seeking permission to access your data on all websites, tabs and browsing history. Clicking Add will lead you to confirm your Read It Later account.

Log in, and you will notice an Aside icon on the omnibar. If you wish to add any webpage to your reading list, all you’ve do is click this icon.

The extension has a unique feature of allowing you to add tags while saving, hence making finding the link later a breeze. Once you’ve added a page to your Pocket account, the icon turns red on that URL, indicating that it has been successfully recorded to your Pocket. Should you wish to remove the saved webpage or mark it read, all you have to do is click the “filled” icon again, turning it empty once more.

The extension also comes with a handy feature of context menu addition, where you can right click a link anywhere on the web and send it straight to Pocket.

Since Pocket supports saving multimedia content (images, audio, video etc) as well, Aside supports that, too, and you can employ the context menu on any such content to save it to Pocket.

Over all, a solid extension for Pocket users. However, some additional features can make it desirable for all, such as optional closing of the tab on adding to/removing from the list, adding configurable hotkeys, and most significantly, allowing access to the reading list (by right click on the icon or by hot key). Also, Google Reader integration can do wonders for users, but that might be asking too much. The developers of extensions do aim to allow saving the current page to Pocket with a simple keyboard shortcut, and we hope they would consider other suggestions, too. In the meantime, why not you just try out this extension?

When Facebook bought Instagram, it led to a slew of web apps and services being developed exclusively for downloading and backing your Instagram feed to your system or another file sharing service like Flickr or Picassa. Of course, not all apps that combine Facebook and Instagram are meant to be panic buttons. InstaCover enables you to use yours or others’ Instagram images to create a pictorial Facebook profile cover. To get started, all you have to do is sign in with your Facebook account. After signing in, the app inquires after visibility option. You can select who you want to allow to see posts made by the app on your timeline. It also seeks permission to post on your behalf.

Facebook’s cover photos are exactly 851 x 350 pixels. If you want to cram as many photos as possible, choose smaller thumbnails, and you can have 13 photos across and 5 photos down. If you want medium Instagram thumbnails, you’ll need to select 9 photos across and 4 photos down. For large thumbnails, 8 by 3 will do. You can also get playful with the image sizes, like InstaCover does with the custom settings, and enlarge one or two special images.

The following preview has been taken by choosing Custom layout. As you can see, it displays mixed sized images. You can mess around by changing positions of images in the collage, too, employing traditional dragging for repositioning.

In Target Photos, select one of the many options listed as the source of the photos. The options will tell the app which stream or what kind of photos to include in the cover photo. You can choose to use photos from the entire Instagram community, those of a specific user, select by category, tags or the ones you’ve liked. Next, choose the layout. The three sizes refer to the size of individual images. The smaller the size, the more photos will fit in the cover picture. Custom 1 enlarges and focuses on one photo and others appear next to it in a smaller size. Custom 2 randomizes their size to make them look more like a collage.

Finally, select if you would like photos to be picked from those that are currently popular, older photos or just at random. Pick a background color for your collage by clicking the color box which expands into a full spectrum selector.

When done, save the output to your Facebook photos. The image won’t be made your profile cover directly; rather, it’ll be saved in your Facebook Photos. If it pleases you, then you can set the cover by selecting photo from your album manually. Although an excellent app, the final cover photo is watermarked with the web app’s name.

The slight flaw with the app is that you can’t personally select which pictures will appear in the cover. It will always select them randomly. This might not seem a big deal but with the random way the app generates images, you might get too many pictures of the same color in one part of the cover photo and that is bound to throw the symmetry off.

The app is useful for people who can’t create stunning cover photos themselves, aren’t apt at using collage makers or just don’t have the time to hunt for gorgeous stock free photos to use on their Facebook profile.

We’re always in search for new things to buy and new gadgets to bag. Even if a particular product is out of our price range, we find it hard to let go of the wish to get it. This is where WishyBox can come in handy. It’s a web-application that allows you to create a wishlist online and then share it with your friends and family. This amazing tool comes with variety of options for wishlist items such as links for purchasing, notes, price details etc. Get ready to play with simple yet unique drag-and-drop interface and get surprise gifts from your friends.

WishyBox allows you to log in with your Gmail, Windows Live (Hotmail), Yahoo! or Facebook accounts, and add items to your wish list from any site.

Reserve a gift for a family member or friend and leave comments to coordinate with other gift givers, all without spoiling the surprise.

Are you ready to get surprise gifts from your friends? Do you want your friends to buy you presents that you want? WishyBox has a solution for you. The application allows you to invite your friends and family members and have them in your friend list. They can access your wishlist, can comment on the items in it, engage in discussions with your other friends and that too without letting you know. The comments added by your friends will remain invisible to you. This comes in handy particularly when you plan on surprising a friend with a gift from his or her wishlist.

To test this feature, I asked a colleague to comment on an item. The comment remained invisible to me from my account.

The application also comes with an interesting set of settings, such as adding your children to your account to manage their wish lists and the ability to publicly share your own.

All in all, an interesting concept, nicely implemented. You might find many online wishlist creators, but the set of features that WishyBox provides is very rare, if not entirely unique. Most wishlist web apps or extensions only allow you to aggregate products and their price info. WishyBox turns your wishlist into more than just a place to note down things you might buy. The wishlist becomes a portal for your friends to find out what you want and and discuss what to get you among themselves. Moreover, you should soon be able to access WishyBox wishlists on the go as the developers plan on releasing mobile clients for it in future updates.

Looking for help in managing your time in an efficient manner? Do you wish to organize your time and activities a month in advance? Are you a person who makes to-do lists and then forgets where you put them? If so, My Time Organizer, a Google Chrome extension, is definitely worth giving a shot. It’s an application that lets you manage your time in the easiest yet the most stylish way. Through an interface governed by drag & drop, it allows users to add information about events, tasks and/or notes and receive notifications for upcoming events, meetings, lectures, tests, exams, etc. You can even edit the text using voice input.

My Time Organizer comes with a user-friendly and eye-catching interface. It comes with an interesting flash tutorial for beginners to get started. The tutorial can be viewed by clicking the the icon at the extreme top-right. You can even select a color theme of your choice by clicking the settings icon beside it.

My Time Organizer allows you to organize your day using three basic kinds of elements: events, tasks and notes. You can add these to specific day (column) through simple drag and drop.

Hovering over a note, task or event reveals options to edit text, use voice input, change the item’s bar color, move the item to another day or delete it. Selecting the editing option will open a window where you can enter a description for the item, define a time for it, and enable a reminder set off at the specified time.

To switch between weeks, simply hover over the week number above the table or click the arrow buttons on the sides. You can select a specific date from within the upper panel as well. The calendar icon at the top-right allows you to switch to a monthly view of your tasks, events and notes, which helps you plan everything in advance in a much simpler way.

Another great facet of the application is that it runs in background, so you can access your data at any given moment, even without an active internet connection.

Our verdict? A great interface coupled with excellent usability definitely makes this Chrome extension worth a try.

Are you looking for a job? Seeking a job can be frustrating.
The process is simple. After selecting your desired options, click Search to view jobs in the specified field, type and location of the job. The arrows at the top of the page will help you navigate between pages of the results that appear.

If you find any job title interesting, simply click it to view its details. Choosing to View Full Listing will take you to the associated job-portal page.

Although it has great features, it still has to cover few needs, one of them being the option to return to the job list after selecting a job.

It’s not clear whether the extension really searches “thousands” (as the developers claim) of job boards. It’s powered by indeed.com and basically searches all the major job boards for the defined location, which, in most cases, proves to be sufficient. Plus, it’s lightning fast and extremely convenient.

A customized job search can’t get any easier than this, can it? Do share your views and experience with us below.

iPhone is popular for a lot of reasons; it practically pioneered the design, technology and feature concepts we see in today’s smartphones, but the apps that are available for download are also a huge part of the user experience. Once insanely popular app for the iPhone is Instagram. Although it is now available for the Android platform as well, it was made popular on the iPhone. Even with the Facebook acquisition, the service has yet to have a web interface and the large database of pictures can only be accessed from your phone. If you’ve been using an iPhone long enough, chances are high that you, yourself, might at some point have used Instagram, either to share your own masterpieces with the world, or to view those shared by others. Smartphone-only apps like Instagram are cool, but they end up breaking the experience when we want to check our feeds through our desktop. Imagine someone who just wants to browse through, say, Instagram’s most popular feed, and doesn’t want to be bothered with comments, likes, or the whole ‘Instagram package’, for that matter. That is where Instagram for Chrome comes in. It is a handy Chrome extension that lets you view Instagram photos and the likes and comments on them right from the Chrome toolbar. Unlike previously reviewed InstaBrowser for Chrome, this extension is lighter, better-looking and closer to the original Instagram interface.

Once installed, you will have to allow the extension to connect with your Instagram account. If you ever want to disable the extension, you will have to uninstall same as you do with any other extension, however, you will have to manually revoke its connection with your account by signing in to Instagram from your desktop.

After authorization, click the extension’s button and wait. It takes some time for it to fetch your feed the first time around. The interface is simple; images appear in the window that pops up, under each image are buttons for liking, commenting and printing a picture. The name of the user who uploaded a picture can be clicked and it will take you to their personal stream. The three dots at the top left of this little window expand to reveal additional options (just like in the iPhone app) for viewing your own feed, your profile, popular images, images uploaded by users close by and for viewing a list of your followers. A refresh button at the top right lets you refresh your feed. As you hover your mouse over an image, it is lit up with a soft light effect so you know which picture you’re on.

All-in-all, Instagram for Chrome is a good-looking Instagram viewer that not only matches the original Instagram look, but is a lighter and faster alternative to most web-based viewers out there.

Music is believed to be the most vivid language in order to express the inexpressible. The passion for music has never been as alive and nourished as it is since the internet resources revealed music oriented communities that help everyone who is serious about music. In the realms of a wide range of such applications, ListenItLater (sounds similar to Read It Later, no? It’s not just the name, but the functionality too) grabbed my attention due to its potential to help you listen to a continuous stream of songs or be the DJ of your own music station. ListenItLater allows you to easily save the music you find so you can play it when you do have the time, helping you find, save and listen to your new music easier, better, and faster.

Accounts can be easily created by clicking on the ‘Create Account’ button at the top-right of the welcome page. It also allows you to log in with your Facebook or Twitter account. Once that is done, you can start creating multiple playlists of newly found music and podcasts collected from streaming websites.

There are two ways you can add to your ListenItLater music collection; from within the web app itself, using the the search bar, and through a bookmarklet (the same method used by Read It Later, Instapaper and other similar services) for when you stumble upon a song of your liking while browsing the web. Utilizing these two means in conjunction, you can search for and gather songs into any number of varied playlists to listen to later when you have more time to enjoy them.

According to a research carried out in Jan 2012, the leading social sound platform SoundCloud has reached up to 10 million registered users. Keeping the same thing in mind, ListenItLater incorporates SoundCloud’s vast array of sounds (with YouTube about to be added), allowing you to search for songs from its repository and add them to your playlists through drag and drop. Reordering of songs in a playlist too can be done in the same way.

ListenItLater is currently a web-only application, but according to the information on its welcome page, it doesn’t plan to stay restricted to the web for long. Apart from supporting all major web browsers, ListenItLater aims to soon release clients for tablet and smartphone users.

Despite being an interesting application, ListenItLater still needs improvements in the user interface, bug fixes, and most significantly, adding more platforms like YouTube (which they already intend to do). Though, spare time is something that very few of us have a lot of. While we may have the time and inclination to search out new music, it’s rare to find enough time to thoroughly ingest the music you’ve found. This is where ListenItLater comes in.
