New Language Words Memorizer

If you’re intending to learn a new language and want to memorize or strengthen your vocabulary, then Multi-Language Words Memorizer will come useful. As the name implies, the primary focus is to help user in memorizing words of different languages. Whilst supporting customization of words list, it also lets you add a search filter to quickly search for the word that you’re looking for.

New languages can be manually added to the database via Manage Words Sections And Languages tab, one can add new words and corresponding translated-words to the database using the bottom right panel. You can select categories of words like easy verb, hard noun, hard verbs, simple noun or any user-defined section from the Select Word Section.

The words along with translation pops-up in the system tray area. From Options one can specify the duration for which the pop-up should be displayed. You can specify any time up to 500 seconds.

Multi-Language Words Memorizer works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and requires .NET Framework 2.0. Testing was done on x86 based Windows 7 PC.

DVD Movies Database Software EMDB

If you are a movie buff who wants to track and manage your movies in a systematic way than EMDB is a perfect option for you. It is portable and gives you the option to edit movie information or import them from IMDB (Internet Movie Database) website. It is more graphical movies database manager than our previously reviewed My Disc Collection.

The main window gives you a nice view of your movie collection and due to the thumbnail preview of each item, you can easily recognize each of your item.

To add a new item, click Add from the main interface and a new window will appear. Here you can manually edit your item’s detail or you can import them from IMDB.

EMDB is fully portable, all settings are saved inside it’s folder which can be moved to an external drive. The developer recommends NOT installing it inside Programs Files folder so that it becomes easier to move the folder. It lets you export your databases to HTML, CSV or text files, allowing you to make backups periodically. One can also select which information of the movie should be downloaded from IMDB, for this got go Internet Import tab in Options.

Movies that you have watched, not watched, own, loaned, or are on a wish list can also be filtered. One prominent and very useful feature is the advanced search, which lets you find every detail about the movie from genre and cast, to director, etc.

It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7; testing was done on x86 based Windows 7 system.

Manage Your Clipboard In Firefox With Clipple [Extension]

Clipple is a Firefox extension which lets you manage your clipboard from the right-click context menu. All copied text is saved in this menu and can be accessed quickly.

It adds a right-click context menu item “Clipple-Paste”, from where you can access all of you recent data which you have copied to clipboard

Clipple allows you to save up to 40 recent entries copied to the clipboard, you can also customize the number of recent entries, change maximum length of text, ignore passwords, and save the session. One more noticeable and useful option is to paste all entries at once, which can be of your help in many scenarios.

Overall, Clipple is a really useful add-on which prevents you from loosing any data copied to clipboard. It is compatible with Firefox 3.0 – 4.0b8pre. Our testing was done on Firefox 3.6.10.

How To Annotate Your Emails, Documents, And Files With GumNotes

GumNotes is a brilliant application to add notes to files, websites, documents, contacts, Outlook emails, and more. Notes can be added from the main interface, and when done, they will pop up as notifications from the system tray every time you open that file, contacts, websites, and so on. It is a great way to remind yourself and get things done, also it is far better than previously reviewed File Notes.

Simply select or open the supported object and add the notes for it from the GumNotes main window, for example, just open any webpage in your browser and add a note for that webpage from the main interface, and then every time that webpage is opened, a popup note will appear in the system tray.

A sound can be associated with an annotation from the options menu. To search and manage your notes, right-click GumNotes system tray icon and select Search for Notes.

GumNotes is a handy utility that is free to use while in Beta. It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and is tested on x86 based Windows 7 PC

Drive Tweaker – Create Virtual Drives, Lock And Customize Local Drives

We reviewed Virtual Drives Manager last November which provides user the functionality of creating virtual drives, now Drive Tweaker comes in as another utility which lets you create virtual drives and with that it offers some extra features like lock and customize a local drive.

You have to use any theme patcher in order to customize the Windows themes, after that one can customize drives by selecting a favorite icon, changing the background for that drive or changing the foreground color, you can Refresh Explorer to avoid system restart.

You can lock any drive on your PC simply by going to Lock Drive tab. It provides some useful features, but it also threw some exceptions while testing. It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and tested on x86 based Windows 7 PC.

From the system menu (Alt + Space) the user can save the test results to the text file or copy them to the clipboard, it’s nice if you want to show off a friend on chat, what your USB drive can do.

SpeedOut Checks USB & External HDD Read/Write Speed

Do you want to know the exact rate at which your USB or external hard drive transfers the data? SpeedOut is a simple program that can be used to find the exact data transfer rate and also check which USB or external hard drive provides you better performance. It has a simple interface which shows the results in bar chart along with numerical test results.

The best part is that it doesn’t require any formatting after the test and also it doesn’t damage any data on the USB or external hard drive during the test.

From the system menu (Alt + Space) the user can save the test results to the text file or copy them to the clipboard, it’s nice if you want to show your friend what your USB drive can do.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 shows only the write speed of data being copied/moved, Speedout on the other hand performs four test each for read and write and then provide you the average result, so there is no need to manually check for read/write speed. It is a nice program providing you quick results to select a better USB or an external hard drive which fulfills your needs.

My Disc Collection Tracks Your Movies, Music, And TV Shows Collection

Do you have enormous collection of movies, music, or TV shows which you want to keep track on? Users having such a large collection of disks will tell you how difficult it is to manage and keep track on them. In most cases, one forgets which disk was lend out to family or friends, making it further difficult to find it.

My Disk Collection is a small application to keep track of your physical media which solves the exact problem mentioned above. It also allows you have a quick overview of your media collection.

There are built-in entries for the disc types and status which helps user manage the collection faster. You will find nine different entries for Disk Types – DVD, Blu-ray, HD DVD, UMD, Laser Disc, VHS, CD-1, CD, and Other. On the other hand, there are three entries for status of each disk type – In (which you already have), Out (which have been lend to family and friends), and Ordered (which you have ordered).

Items can be added or deleted by using simple buttons provided at the bottom right of the main interface. You can export the data to spreadsheet or in HTML format so that one can easily use the database with programs like Excel. It also shows informative statistics about your media collection.

It comes with some skins which are not too good if you ask me (stick with the default one). It runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, testing was done on Windows 7 x86 system.

Secure Folder Password Protects And Hides Windows Folders

Earlier we reviewed a tool called PenyuLocker which lets user protect any folder with a password, it lacks one user friendly option and that is right-click context menu option. Secure Folder integrates with Windows Shell to give users an easy and quick way to lock their folders with just a couple of clicks.

Another useful feature is that it allows user to either lock the folder or lock & hide the folder concurrently. This can be done by selecting the appropriate option from the main application window.

You can unlock the folder at any time by selecting it from the main window and then using the unlock button on the top left of the main window, however, unlock option is always present in right-click context menu. It is a handy and easy to use tool to secure your precious data with ease. It runs on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Testing was done on Windows 7 x86 system.
