Only a few days ago, we covered Plus Comments, a Chrome extension that let you view what others are saying about a particular website on Google+. Twitter Pulse is a similar tool that displays up to 10 URLs that have been tweeted the most for the domain you are currently viewing. Moreover, these tweets and articles can then be filtered by different time intervals, such as Now, 24Hours, 7Days, Month and All. Twitter Pulse lets you find popular social content and gives you the ability to see the latest Twitter buzz for your favorite websites. The extension adds a button in the URL bar, which you can click to view articles that have been retweeted the most for the currently-viewed page. The Grim Tab Reaper Automatically Bookmarks & Closes Inactive Tabs In Firefox

One problem with working with a large number of tabs, is the fact that we often forget to close the inactive ones, despite having exhausted their need a long while back. Sifting through numerous tabs cannot only be a difficult task, but they also increase the memory usage (especially on Firefox). The Grim Tab Reaper is a clever Firefox add-on that will automatically bookmark inactive tabs and close them after a certain time interval has elapsed. By default, the time to automatically close inactive tabs is set to 48 hours, but users can increase/decrease the time from the add-on’s options. Note that this tool will never close web app tabs, or the active ones. Tabs that are reaped get a tabreaper tag associated with them, so you can easily find them by clicking the Recent Tags option in the Bookmarks menu.

After installing The Grim Tab Reaper, you can change the time of inactivity (in hours) from the options. Once the add-on has bookmarked and closed an individual or group of tabs after your set amount of time, you will be able to access them from the Recent Tags option found under the Bookmarks menu.

Not long ago, we covered DUE.IM, a text message service that allowed you to send one-time readable, private messages to others. BurnNote is a similar web application that offers you the same functionality, but with additional options. The service lets you send private messages to others that can only be viewed once and are deleted after a set amount of time. Deleted burn notes are completely erased from the BurnNote servers, so it is impossible for anyone to retrieve them. All you have to do is enter your message (password, number, link, note etc), and the service will instantly generate a private URL that you can share with your buddies. Once the message has been read by the recipient, BurnNote will automatically ‘burn’ it, ensuring that it remains private. That’s how simple it is!

To start off, type your private message, set the timer, enter a password (optional) and hit the Send button. The “type” of your note can be defined through a drop-down menu, which includes Plain text (copying OK), Short phrases (no copying) and Spyglass (no copying).

BurnNote will instantly generate a unique URL, which you can copy to the clipboard by clicking the Copy Link button.

When the recipient receives the message, the timer will be displayed at the top of the page. Once the time is up, the message will automatically be deleted from the server. Note that when the URL is clicked a second time, a ‘There is no note here’ message is displayed.

The service does not require any registration or login, and has a simple interface that lets you quickly send private messages. If you want to share secret messages with your friends, and privacy is a concern, then BurnNote can be a handy tool for you.

This problem becomes more pronounced with those login forms where you have a limit to number of attempts. HashMask is a Chrome extension that turns your passwords into a colored sparkline, so you can instantly detect any mistyped passwords. After you’ve installed this handy utility, you’ll be able to see a spark line in every password field, which will change colors as you type. You can think of the hash as being your password’s fingerprint. With time, you will be able to remember the color or shape of the hash, which will allow you to see whether you’ve typed passwords correctly or not. HashMask seamlessly integrates with websites and basically helps you in making sure that you do not enter a wrong password for your online accounts.

After you’ve installed the extension, whenever you start typing in a password field, HashMask will display a little colored spark line. The colors change as you type, and once you’re done with entering the password, it gets a specific color and shape. Spread, a Chrome extension, has been designed to improve your reading speed by loading selected text into a neat pop-up, letting you read articles faster. It also offers customization options for reading speed, number of characters and font size. Not only does this nifty little tool provide you with a great way to speed read through text, but also read text without any clutter or distractions. After installing the extension, simply highlight text and select the right-click context menu option to start speed reading.

To start off, highlight text and select the Speed read selection option from the right-click context menu to open your desired text in a pop-up window with multiple controls.

When you hit the Play button, the extension displays the text in segments. You can then adjust the speed (characters per minute), the font size and number of characters. By default, the speed is set to 9720 cpm, which is very fast, so you might want to decrease the speed initially.

The web is littered with Unicode characters, and sometimes, even though we know the name of a character, we tend to forget its exact shape, symbol and details. This is where Inunico.de, a web application, can come in handy. The app lets you browse different Unicode characters simply by typing a symbol’s name, after which it displays matching Unicode characters from it’s database.

Inunico.de comes with a neat minimalist interface, which makes it exceptionally easy-to-use. All you have to do is simply type the name of a Unicode character and hit Enter. A table of results will be displayed with all the possible matches. Each symbol comes with name, uppercase and lowercase details. If you know the exact name of your Unicode character, you can even use its name as a sub-domain of the service to navigate directly to that letter.

You can click any character to view it in a larger size or copy it to the clipboard.

One of the bigger nuisances associated with working with a large number of tabs, is the tab handles getting squeezed so close together that favicons disappear. Then, at other times, you might want to quickly search a word or phrase across all opened tabs, close a set of tabs or shift existing tabs into a new window. Search Plus is a browser extension for Chrome that offers you with a set of useful features that improve your tabbed browsing experience. It helps to find the tabs you’re looking for from all open tabs, regardless of which window they are in, and you can then manage the found tabs quickly. The extension will let you preform various operations, such as search a specific text string through all tabs, collect tabs into a single window, insert text to the titles of tabs, capture images from tabs and more.

After installing the extension, all you have to do is click the button in the toolbar and enter the keyword in the pop-up window. Totalizer, a useful Chrome extension, provides you with the option to perform arithmetic functions on table columns within HTML-based websites. The extension can specially come in handy if you’re working on some stats and want to quickly preform some basic spreadsheet functions for table columns. Some of the functions that can be applied are, Sum, Average, Min and Max. Apart from these, you can also exclude a given cell or row and use the Clear option to remove a function. The extension is easy-to-use; all you have to do is click the button in the toolbar, right-click on a table column, and select a function from the context menu. As soon as a function is selected, results are instantly calculated and displayed at the bottom of the column. That’s how simple it is!

Once the extension is installed, whenever you come across a table on which you would like to perform some basic arithmetic functions, simply click the button in the toolbar. While most companies use emails to send or receive official documents, you can still find organizations that are not willing to accept an email and require a faxed form. HelloFax hopes to remove the need for fax machines altogether. With it, you can fax any document from your Google Drive, Dropbox or Box account, as well as sign any document or request an electronic signature. The handy service eliminates the complicated process of printing a document, signing it manually and then rescanning and sending it to the recipient, letting you send or receive faxes from anywhere. After signing up for the service, you can send up to 20 pages for free. The service gives you 5 additional free fax pages every time you invite a friend.

You can either sign up for the service or simply login via your Google account. The app has a neat layout, with Getting started, Send a fax, Sign and send, Request signature and Manage your documents options.

Once done, you can import your contacts, upload documents and fax them anywhere you want. All you have to do is enter a Fax number or an email address for the recipient (in case you want to email the document through Hellofax).

Additionally, you can add a signature by uploading an image file, or simply drawing it using any input device. HelloFax allows you to sign the document using your mouse as a pen, and also type on the document. The signature can then be used on any file that you fax.

You can also request signatures for any uploaded document. The Editor allows you to add your own signature, checkmark or text. With it, you can also assign tasks to the recipient, so they know what they need to do. You may add Signature, Initials, Text, Checkmark and Date Signed fields using the drag & drop functionality.

The very last option in the menu allows you to manage and organize your documents. HelloFax groups your documents into multiple categories, such as All, Sent, Received, Drafts, Actions Required and Templates.

Overall, Hellofax is a user-friendly web application that lets you fax documents through the web without having to actually use a Fax machine. It also allows you to create an online signature and sign documents that you can send to recipients via fax or email.

Block Certain Channels From Appearing In YouTube Suggestions List [Chrome]

While listening to music or watching our favorite videos on YouTube, we often get distracted by the related or suggested videos in the sidebar. While we can always choose to ignore those, there might be one persistent enough to make you lose focus and skip to that video instead of what you were watching. While getting distracted is not as big of a nuisance, if you get tired of misleading thumbnails or titles, then RE:Channel Blocker, a Chrome extension, is what you need. This neat utility lets you block videos from unwanted channels of your choice hat keep appearing in the Suggestions list. It gives you a nice way to filter out videos from particular channels that can ruin your YouTube experience.

After the extension is installed, whenever you come across a video that you don’t like, simply hover your mouse over the thumbnail, click the block option, and hit the Yes button when the confirmation pop-up appears. The video will automatically be added to the list of blocked channels, and all videos from that particular channel will stop showing up altogether in the Related list.

You can then manage your block lists by accessing the Options page, and unblock any channels whenever you want.

It lets you search for just about anything – address, city, country, streets etc, and you can also get a street view right within the pop-up.

After you’ve installed the extension, you can click the button in the toolbar to open Google Maps in a pop-up. The extension will automatically find your current location. In order to find a route between two different points, all you need to do is enter the addresses, and Handy Maps will automatically plot a route for you. Moreover, you will find a Show on map option in the right-click context menu, which allows you to search Google Maps from any website. Once you’ve found your desired location or a route, you can close the pop-up and continue browsing the web.

You can also switch between Map and Satellite modes within the extension. Additionally, the extension offers you a street view as well, which can be viewed with or without labels, depending on your preferences.

Handy Maps gives you speedier access to Google Maps and quickly lets you find your favorite places; however, it would have been nicer if the extension could retain the last search once the pop-up was closed.

The extension adds a button to the URL bar for all Reddit pages, and allows you to view images and read articles in a scrollable, resizable pop-up window by hovering over their links. Not only does it let you access content on the same page, but also lets you minimize interesting images/articles to the bottom of the website, so you can return to them at a later time.

After installing the extension, simply hover your mouse over a link and wait for a few seconds for the content to load. The image/article will then be displayed in a pop-up window right next to the link. You can even view content in full-screen, or resize the window according to your needs. Additionally, you may minimize multiple windows to the bottom of the screen, so you can get back to them at a later time.

After signing up for the service, you will be able to sort and arrange your tasks into four different columns, viz. To-do, Do Today, In Progress and Done, along with the option of adding new columns.
