Normally, whenever you want to take a better look at a particular image or link on Reddit, you have to open it in a new tab, and then switch tabs in order to return to the main page, which is neither convenient nor efficient. Seeit!, a Chrome extension, solves this common problem by providing you with preview capabilities for Reddit. The extension adds a button to the URL bar for all Reddit pages, and allows you to view images and read articles in a scrollable, resizable pop-up window by hovering over their links. Not only does it let you access content on the same page, but also lets you minimize interesting images/articles to the bottom of the website, so you can return to them at a later time.

After installing the extension, simply hover your mouse over a link and wait for a few seconds for the content to load. The image/article will then be displayed in a pop-up window right next to the link. You can even view content in full-screen, or resize the window according to your needs. Additionally, you may minimize multiple windows to the bottom of the screen, so you can get back to them at a later time.

This nifty little tool retrieves articles in a scrollable pop-up window, which are displayed using Instapaper. With it, you will be able to read full-length articles without opening them in new tabs or windows.

SeeIt! lets you open previews to links after a set amount of time, which can be changed from Options. You can also change the color of the previewed links and use Instapaper to open webpages. Moreover, you can either minimize or close existing previews when you preview a new link.

The Pomodoro technique requires you to work with full focus for about 25 minutes before you take a short break, then work another 25 minutes, followed by another short break and so on. Enable Keyboard Shortcuts & Create Custom Hotkeys In Gmail [Tip]

Keyboard shortcut support is a rather unknown feature of Gmail. If you love using keyboard shortcuts, you must know how convenient it is to use hotkeys to perform mouse-intensive tasks. If you’re an avid Gmail user who spends the better half of the day managing emails, then you might want to use hotkeys to quickly navigate between mailboxes (Inbox, Sent Mail, Drafts etc.), and other Gmail sections including Contacts and Tasks. Gmail natively supports quite a few hotkeys used to jump between different Gmail pages & sections, and even allows users to create custom shortcuts for performing routine tasks. In what follows, we will let you know how you can enable keyboard shortcuts in Gmail and create custom hotkeys to quickly perform your routine tasks.

By default, the keyboard shortcuts are not enabled in Gmail. In order to enable shortcuts, open Settings window, head over to General tab, and enable Keyboard shortcuts On option.

The list of keyboard shortcuts can be viewed by pressing “Shift + ?” hotkey combination. The shortcuts are neatly divided into separate categories including Jumping, Threadlist Selection, Navigation, Application and Actions.

That’s not all, other than the built-in shortcuts, Gmail also allows you to create custom shortcuts. To create custom shortcuts, open the Settings window and head over to the Labs tab. Under Gmail Labs: Some Crazy Experimental Stuff, search for Custom Keyboard, select Enable from Custom keyboard shortcuts section, and click Save Changes.

A new tab named Keyboard Shortcuts will be added in the Settings window. It contains a list of all the shortcuts offered by Gmail. You can, either replace the default shortcut key for an action, or set a secondary shortcut for it. After you have configured all the required shortcuts, click Save Changes.

If you like using keyboard shortcuts rather than the mouse for performing different actions, then Gmail custom shortcuts option proves to be quite handy.

Fire Media Player is a media playback and management tool that allows you to play YouTube videos and playlists in a compact sidebar. The sidebar can easily be toggled on and off with the click of a button, and music playback can be controlled from the toolbar or from within the right-click context menu. With it, you can create and edit playlists, search for music and share it with your friends on popular social networks. Additionally, music can be added directly to playlists from YouTube using the right-click context menu. Fire Media Player also lets you see thumbnails of next/previous videos right within the sidebar.

After you’ve installed the add-on, it will add a sidebar and a toolbar to Firefox’s interface. From here, you will be able to create new playlists, add music and save playlists. Flavour Map is an interesting web application that provides you with a crowdsourced map of tastes and places to dine out from all over the world. Not only does it allow you find new cuisines and flavors, but also lets you pin a flavor, restaurant or street food you’ve tried out lately, using Google Street View. Moreover, you can add descriptions, attach images and write reviews. The extension not only blocks websites, but will also let you set reminders for visiting a certain domain later, making sure you don’t forget where you were actually supposed to be heading. Additionally, the Advanced options allow you to block URLs for particular days and hours.

To start off, right-click a website to access the TimeLimiter option from the context menu. This option allows you to Add, Delete or Edit websites from the list.

Similarly, select the Timelimiter-add/edit this page option from the right-click context menu in order to enable the Remind or Lock mode. You can then set a time for a particular mode, and choose the everyday or advanced time control options for the lock mode. Once done, hit OK and you’re good to go.

Learning a new language is not an easy job, and can require a lot of effort. However, Language Immersion For Chrome aims to change that by providing you with a very easy and simple way to learn new words/phrases from a foreign language, as you browse the web. This nifty little extension switches certain words and phrases from English to a language of your choice on regular websites that you browse, letting you experience the language with a different perspective. With it, you can choose from a collection of sixty four languages currently supported by Google Translate. Novice, Intermediate and Fluent level settings control how much of the page is translated. For instance, when you select Fluent, entire sentences are translated, whereas the Novice option only translates a few phrases. Additionally, scrolling over a translated word or phrase lets you hear the pronunciation, and clicking the translation turns it back to English. More after the jump.

After you’ve installed the extension, click the button in the toolbar, select a language from the drop-down menu and the immersion level (from Novice, Intermediate and Fluent). Also, the Settings allow you to enable Speak translations and Highlight translation options. Once done with the settings, the extension will work automatically on all websites when it is toggled ON.

Once the extension is turned on, your normal browsing will result in a few (or lot) of the words replaced with their counterparts from your chosen language, highlighted in a blue tint. You can then click on a translated word to switch it back to English, or hover your mouse over it word to hear it pronounced.

Language Immersion For Chrome gives you a great way to learn a new language without affecting your routine browsing. The interface takes after that of a conventional media player. You have controls that allow you to play/pause the flow of tweets, or view new ones, by clicking a forward button, while the amount of tweets coming in are depicted by volume bars that you can adjust to control said frequency. You can drag & drop tweets to add them to your Favorites, and create custom topics in the Presets category to search for strings or hashtags. solplay also lets you delete created topics and favorites by dragging them to a trash can within the interface.

To start off, enter a query in the search bar, hit Enter, and tweets will start flowing in only a few seconds. You can then play/pause, forward and change the amount of tweets by accessing the controls displayed at the top of the page, much like a traditional media player. In order to save a tweet, simply grab it from the flow and drop it into your favorites window. You can also delete particular favorites by dragging them to the Trash Can. Moreover, the service uses www.tagdef.com to show you the definition of any hashtag you see in your flow. Using this Chrome extension, you can play GIF animations with various speeds, and automatically scrub GIFs when they are opened. The extension’s Options can be set to prevent the automatic starting and looping of animations. It also lets you use the Explode option to directly extract all frames from the GIF file, so you can easily save the frames that you want. Note that once the frames have been extracted, they cannot be downloaded all at once, but manually, one by one.

To start off, right-click a .gif image or link, and select the GIF Scrubber option from the context menu.

Almost instantly, the image will open in a new tab, with multiple controls displayed at the bottom. Controls include various speed options, that range from –8x to 8x and a play/pause button. Additionally, you can click the explode button at the top left of the page to extract all frames from the animated image.

Hands-On With Cubby For Web, Windows, Android & iOS [Review]

Cloud storage services provide a convenient way to back up important data from not just computers, but also smartphones and tablets. First came Box, then Microsoft’s Skydrive, then Dropbox and now, after the recent release of Google Drive, it looks like everyone is jumping onto the cloud computing bandwagon. Developed by LogMeIn, Cubby is yet another new cloud service, with support for multiple platforms, allowing you to sync data across your computers, tablets and smartphones. It provides real-time collaboration, through which you can share files with your friends, family and colleagues, and work collectively on special tasks. The service brings a somewhat unique concept of folders sharing, wherein you drag a folder over the desktop client and it is converted into a ’cubby’, which is essentially a folder that is accessible from all configured computers and devices, and can be shared with other users as well.

Just like other major cloud services available in the market, this application is cross-platform, which means any file you throw into the cloud is accessible from your Mac, PC, smartphone, tablets and the web. Since the service is in private beta, you need to sign up for the service by specifying email address to get invited. The application asks you to create an account; you can do it from within the app by entering your email address and password followed by clicking create account.

For the first time usage, it automatically creates your first cubby (sharing folder) namely My Cubby, however you can add as many cubbies as you want to the cloud.

Adding cubbies is quite easy, you can either click add folder or simply drag folders over the application to sync them with the cloud.

Hovering the mouse pointer over the synced folder lets you synchronize the files, check the people with whom the folder is shared, generate public link for the folder or simply remove it from Cubby.

Once synced, you can access your content from Android or iOS device, Mac, PC or from its web interface.

The Android application for Cubby also looks beautiful. Just log in to your account, and it will start listing down all synced cubbies. You can access any shared folder’s content and save it to local storage for offline access. It also provides a search feature, which lets you find cubbies and shared files in real time. Even though you cannot create new folders, it does let you access and upload new files to your existing cubbies.

The iOS variant of the app supports iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and provides the same functionality as its Android counterpart for accessing and adding files to folders.

All-in-all, Cubby does look promising with its efficient file sharing capabilities and minimalistic GUI. As of now, Cubby offers its users with 5 GB of free cloud storage space, but most likely, additional storage plans will be introduced soon. The application is available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. The Windows variant works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Testing was done on Windows 7 64-bit, Samsung Galaxy S2 and iPad.
