Wouldn’t it be great if we could listen to music on YouTube and work online at the same time, without having to sift through multiple tabs? ChromeTunes is a Chrome extension that lets you listen to tracks and playlists from YouTube through a slick pop-up. Not only does the extension allow you to search and listen to tracks, but it also lets you add your favorite playlists right through the pop-up. After you’ve installed the extension, you can directly add playlists by accessing the settings and enter a List ID. You can also click the search button and enter a query in the search box to find tracks and playlists. ChromeTunes will then instantly retrieve playlists or tracks from YouTube, along with a thumbnail preview of an album or track.
After installation, you will be able to view and listen to songs from a default playlist called Sample for ChromeTunes, which consists of nineteen tracks. To listen to your desired songs, click the search button at the bottom of the pop-up, enter a query in the search bar and hit the Search button. Note that you can either enter a artist’s or track’s name in the search bar to find playlists and tracks.
Next, the player will instantly load and display a playlist for your search. When you enter an artist’s name, ChromeTunes retrieves songs from various albums, whereas when you enter a title of a track, multiple tracks with the same name, produced by different artists, are displayed as a playlist. At the very top of the player, you will also find Play/Pause, Forward/Rewind and Volume Control buttons. You may also toggle shuffle or repeat by clicking the buttons under the title of the track.
In addition to that, you can easily add various playlists to the player by clicking the Settings icon at the top-right corner of the pop-up. You will find four tabs under Settings, Playlists, Search, Shared and About. To add playlists to the player, click the Playlist tab, enter a List ID and click Add. Alternatively, you can click the Search tab, enter a search term and click the (+) button to add them to your library.
Once you’ve customized the extension and added all your desired playlists, you will no longer need to open YouTube or multiple tabs to play your favorite tracks. This neat tool allows you to work online and enjoy music at the same time. Frequent users of YouTube might find themselves using this extension pretty regularly, and you can grab it at the link below.
