Want to stay-up-to date with the latest Google Reader feeds without having to repeatedly check the website for new posts? Easy Reader, a Chrome extension, automatically retrieves and updates your Google Reader feeds. It provides instant access to Google Reader and displays feeds in a compact pop-up. Real-time notifications are displayed for new posts, and an unread count for Google Reader is displayed on the button. Each feed comes with a post title and website logo. To preview the feed, hover your mouse over it, and content will instantly be displayed in a small box.
Once you’ve installed Easy Reader, simply click the button in the toolbar, and Google Reader feeds will be displayed in a pop-up. Simply click one, and it will open in a new tab. You will also notice a count of unread items on the Google Reader button. To go to the next page, click the Forward arrow or click the page numbers displayed at the bottom of the pop-up.
Easy Reader displays real-time notifications for new post publications, which allow you to stay up-to-date with the latest happenings.
If you break down the extension in to its pros and cons, you can cite the limited number of unread items as both. The extension only previews the last 25 unread items in your feed and this will ensure you aren’t bothered with items that are somewhat old or items that are not as important to read at the moment. On the other hand, if you have something like 30 or more feeds added to Google Reader, you will not see all new items and that defeats the purpose of the extension.
The desktop notifications are excellent and different from the ones that most extensions like this provide you in that you can move to the next or previous item using the forward/back arrows on either side of the notification. Where the extension might fall short with the number of items it displays, this unique notification might be immensely helpful in moving to older items in your feed. A slight bug, as it seemed to be, that appeared when testing the extension was that although you can move through new items in the notification that appears, a separate one still appeared for each item. This might not be a bug at all but it is still somewhat redundant.
Easy Reader is an user-friendly extension that keeps you up-to-date with the latest Google Reader feeds, while you work online. The extension works smoothly and has no options or settings, whatsoever. Install the extension from the link below, try it out, and let us know what you think.
