A good morning routine has a little cushion time to compensate for unexpected delays such as a longer than usual line at the coffee shop, or the train being slightly late. Where a small cushion time of fifteen minutes can save you from being late to class or work, it can’t save you from traffic jams or bad weather. You will wake up when your alarm goes Off and only then will you know if there is going to be an unusually long commute to work. Snorelax is a $1.99 app for iOS available in the App Store that will wake you up earlier if there is a traffic jam or bad weather so you can get to work or class on time. The app has you program your destination, enter how long it take for you to get ready, and what time you need to arrive at your destination and takes care of the rest.
Install Snorelax and tell it how long it takes for you to get ready and what measurement units you want to use for weather and distance. You can always edit these settings later in the app’s settings panel.
Snorelax has four tabs; the home tab shows you the current weather, the alarms tab shows you all alarms you’ve added, and the traffic tab shows you any traffic congestion, and the weather app gives you a short weather report. Tap the plus button at the top right to add a new alarm.
Snorelax already knows how long it takes for you to get ready but you need to tell it what time you need to arrive at the destination you set an alarm for. Next, enter where you will depart from and where you need to arrive. The alarm will be set. The app will not work if you have Do not disturb enabled so you have to make sure it isn’t enabled when your alarm is set to go Off. This is a limitation imposed on the app by iOS.
When the app detects bad weather or traffic, it sounds the alarm earlier so you still have the same amount of time to get ready and arrive at your destination on time.
The app relies on historical data on traffic and weather to estimate how long a delay you can expect. It works in Europe, North America, South America, South Africa, parts of Asia, Australia, Russia, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia & UAE. The app makes excellent use of historical weather and traffic data and addresses an actual problem commuters face daily i.e. arriving at work on time. It can effectively prevent you from being late or minimize the chances of it.
