Short videos, slow-motion videos, and time lapse videos have all become popular in the past few years. It’s much easier to do now with apps like Hyperlapse from Instagram, Instagram’s own short video feature, and of course; Vine. It may also have something to do with cameras on our phones being able to capture slow motion and time lapse video as well. Tempo Video Editor is a free iOS app that lets you speed up and slow down different parts of the same video as it plays. If you use the free version, you get a watermark on your final video. It costs $4.99 to remove the watermark.
You can use a a video from your camera roll or record one from within the app. The playback speed is added after you’ve recorded a video. You can add music from your iTunes library if you like. Skip this step and the video’s original sound will be used. This isn’t the smartest idea, to be honest. There should be an option to mute the volume because once you slow the video down or speed it up you either get chipmunk-sound or record-playing-too-slow sound.
Play the video on the next screen and tap the playback speed you want for a particular part of the clip. You can go back and edit a video as many times as you want before saving it. The app can export to Instagram (though the length will have to be shortened if it isn’t right), Facebook Messenger, Whatsapp, and the Messages app. You can also save it to your camera roll.
Tempo has been developed by Fly, the same company behind the app called Fly. They also have an impressive Clips app though it too adds a watermark if you use the free version.
