Previously, we had reviewed a great application launcher tool for Windows, Launchy, that served not only as a replacement for Windows Start Menu and desktop icons, but also made launching applications a cakewalk due to its simplicity of use. Namely is a similar tool for Mac which makes launching applications fast and efficient, without adding any clutter to the desktop or any learning curve.
Using Namely is very easy and can be activated with any preferred keyboard shortcut. Once activated, enter the name of the application and hit Return. It uses smart search to show results as soon as you type.

The software also monitors your usage habits, and if you use a particular application a lot, it will show up on top in your search results.
Namely offers control over what applications should be monitored, and you can easily define an exclusion list. The preferences also allow you to change the activation shortcut and the appearance of the launcher window.

Namely requires Mac OS 10.5 or later to work. We tested it on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. One of it’s biggest strength lies in simplicity and complete integration in Mac OS X operating system.
