Disable/Remove Reading Pane From Outlook 2010 Window


If you read emails by double-clicking them in the mail window, you may want to disable the reading pane to get wide space for setting other Outlook items including, tasks, notes, journals, Let’s take a look at how to disable reading pane.

For concealing reading pane, first move to Outlook main window, navigate to View tab, from Layout group, under Reading Pane options, click Off.


This will immediately remove reading pane from Outlook main window.

    does not solve the view issue in individual emails though

    That doesn’t set it as no reading pane for the default view. As soon as you close Outlook, or that one e-mail; it comes back for another email. How do you remove it permanently, so that it is the default view?

      Edit your Outlook shortcut and add the following to the end of the target:
      Your you will then look something like this:
      “C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12OUTLOOK.EXE” /nopreview
