Android Ice Cream Sandwich Revealed With Screenshots [Breaking!]

Back in the days of Froyo, there were speculations about when and what would the Gingerbread version of Google’s Android OS would bring to the mobile platform. With Gingerbread released and played around with for a while now, it is time for the Ice Cream Sandwich to start making the headlines. If you’ve been following Android related news on almost a regular basis, you would know that Ice Cream Sandwich is meant to become the standard Android version running on all Android devices, be it a tablet, or mobile phone. However, when Google says ‘all devices’ we’re not really sure if that includes the likes of older Android devices as well, devices that haven’t even managed to go beyond an official Android 2.2 Froyo for now. But thanks to RootzWiki and Android Police we now have confirmation of not only the fact that the Ice Cream Sandwich is in fact a reality about to hit us sooner then expected, but that Nexus S will hopefully be one of the devices to get the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

The screenshots, provide us with a few extra details as well on how the UI would look like and over all what new features would it support. The images below are courtesy of Android Police and RootzWiki, which are from which source? The watermarks will say for themselves.

If you see the screenshots closely, you’d see that while we hoped that the Android version would finally be revealed in the Phone’s About menu, it seems like Google is still not sure about what number to give to this version of their OS.

The Notification bar has been totally revamped to a new style since the days of Android 2.1 Éclair and there seems to be a touch of blue theme to the OS as well. All those blacked out portions, have been done so to protect some confidential information or data. Please keep in mind that this OS is still incomplete and the UI or theme or any function seen here could change in the future as it is still in the works.

So what else is new in the Ice Cream Sandwich?

  • Brand-new launcher and app drawer.
  • Camera now has a panorama mode.
  • G mail has been totally re-themed to go with the new OS.
  • Nexus S will be receiving ICS via update, but the “Nexus Prime” will be getting it first, then other devices will follow after.
  • Will launch with Google Shopper and NFC Enabled devices will be able to utilize those features.
  • The little icon in the bottom right, looks like a tray with multiple apps in it.
  • Google search bar embedded on very top like Honeycomb.
  • Apps/Widgets launcher a lot like Honeycomb.
