It’s not that Android users are in dire need of some nice-looking instant messenger for their devices, but there is certainly a huge void in that respect, especially when talking of a truly diverse solution. B-Messenger is a free cross-platform IM for Android and iOS that supports audio and video calling with other users over WiFi/3G. The app supports toggling audio/video sharing options whilst a call is in progress. Using B-Messenger, you can find other online users from all across the globe, make friends with them and/or join various topic-based chat rooms to share your thoughts. You can also create your own personal rooms with titles of your own.
The relatively low number of users on B-Messenger should not come as a surprise as the app is only a month old on the iTunes App Store while it’s Android variant too, has just seen the light of the day.
If you’re using B-Messenger for the very first time, you’ll need to signup for a new account to log in with the app. This can be done by availing the free in-app registration facility.
From the app’s homescreen, under the Users tab, you can search for and view all your friends as well as other online users. To call, block or add a user to your friends list, just tap on his/her name and select the required option.
While in a call, you have various controls on your screen that can be used to enable/disable incoming as well as outgoing audio/video, switch between front/back camera and adjust the volume levels for either side. Also, at the bottom of this screen, you have a chat box from where you can share instant text messages.
Tapping on the Rooms tab lets you browse and enter public chat rooms. You can create your own rooms from within the same tab.
Under the Settings tab, you can modify video settings and set audio levels for both speaker and microphone. From the Accounts tab, you can manage your profile and restrict the app to receive calls only from your friends and/or hide your name from the public Users list.
B-Messenger is a fun way of connecting with like-minded people from all around the world through video and voice chat. However, it still has a long distance to cover before it is able to challenge some of the other IMs that are already running hot among users.
