When you launch the app, you will be taken straight to its viewfinder, and shoot a photo with a single tap. If you want, it is possible to overlay the scene with a grid of your choice. There are many compositions of grids which can be used for shooting pictures, and you can choose among them by tapping the top bar. By default, the app does not save images to the camera roll of your iDevice, and maintains a gallery of its own. To enable syncing with the cloud, or with camera roll, you can enable the respective options in the Settings menu of the app. In the sharing menu there are options to publish your photos to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket and via email. If you have enabled 1-Tap Share you can post your photos to the SmugMug network using the sharing button, without having to do anything else.
After a photo has been snapped using the Camera Awesome app, the real fun begins. You can apply any of the existing presets to the image. Similarly, textures, filters and frames can also be used on your photos. There is a pretty big drawback about this though, only a handful of these effects are free, and the rest have to enabled via in-app purchases. Luckily, the free filters and effects should suffice for most people. The best photo editing feature of the app is the Awesomize button. The are 4 options in there, which let you enhance the overall quality and style of the photo. Other editing options, like resizing, cropping and rotating, can be found in the Transform menu.
When you want to shoot a video using Camera Awesome, it is possible to “precorde” the scene, which means adjusting the focus and exposure levels before you actually hit the record button.
