Finally there is some great news for LG Optimus GT 540 Android phone owners as Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread based CyanogenMod 7.1 has been ported. The credit for this unofficial yet highly awesome CM port goes to Mur4ik from 4PDA Russian forums. According to the developer, essentials like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Camera, 3D Acceleration, GPS, aGPS, Sensors, Memory Card Mount etc. work file. Work is underway to fix DivX / Xvid codecs, modem and USB tethering on this port.
For those who don’t know, CyanogenMod is custom 3rd party firmware for select Android devices that is based on latest Android AOSP code and is heavily tweaked to enhance user experience. You can only install a custom ROM on your phone if you have rooting rights along with some other root driven proviliges.
As the developer is consistently engaged in pushing out updates for this build, so there are 3 Release candidates already with uncounted nightly or beta builds. We have never tested a GT540 ourselves, so it’s apparent that installation instructions differ from what we usually see regarding ROMs and kernels. You might have to boot into Fastboot and deploy an image to get this ROM working on your phone. And we aren’t sure if that’s risk free!
In case you want to give this one a shot, then please either head to official 4PDA thread [and we assume you understand Russian] or click here for the official English XDA thread dedicated to this purpose. In these two places you will come across all the goodies you require to get this up and running on your LG Optimus GT540.
