If you’re a Motorola Defy owner yearning for 720p HD video playback, full-screen 480 x 854 pixel video recording or both, we have just the right hack to make your wish come true, thanks toXDA Developer -={antibyte}=-. Read on for details and complete instructions.
Like many other Android devices, Motorola Defy has been lacking both these features despite coming equipped with a rather decent 3.7” screen and a 5 megapixel camera. With this hack, you can now record videos of upto 480×854 pixels, which is the full resolution of the device.
Requirements:
- A rooted Motorola Defy with a custom recovery. In case yours isn’t rooted yet, check out our video guide on how to root Motorola Defy and install a custom recovery to it.
- This is for Android 2.2+ FroYo only so if your phone is still running Eclair , please see how to install 1GHz rooted Android 2.2 FroYo on Motorola Defy and get FroYo installed on your phone first.
- The required file to enable these features.
Procedure:
- Place the above mentioned zip file on the SD card.
- Power down your phone.
- Press the Volume-Down button, keep it held, press the power button and hold it until the phone boots into recovery.
- Perform a Nandroid backup of your phone, just to be on the safe side.
- Install the update via recovery after wiping cache and Dalvik cache. There is no need to wipe data.
- Reboot your phone and you’re done!
Now to see what it’s all about:
- Go to Camera App and you should be able to start recording full screen video.
- Download any 720p video from youtube and watch it smoothly on your Motorola Defy.
