If you are have an iPhone 3G or 3GS and are running jailbroken iOS 4.1 but feel like you are missing out on some of the great new features of the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system such as HDR photography and Game Center, you are in luck! While there have been methods to do that available before, those have mostly been cumbersome, advocating a tedious SSH process in order to enable HDR and GameCenter for iPhone 3G and 3GS but fret not, as we are bringing you a much easier way to enable these. Continue reading for more information and the complete guide.

HDR (high dynamic range) photography is one of the great new additions in iOS 4.1, resulting in pictures with more details across both the lighter and the darker parts of the images. The results speak for themselves, as your semi-dark and semi-light photographs in which you would expect loss of details in certain areas, start turning out to be well-detailed quite uniformly.

Game Center on the other hand, makes gaming on iOS devices a social experience, allowing you to make a gaming profile of your own, share scores, view profiles of your friends and interact around gaming. Think of it as a social network for people who play iOS games.

While both these features are pretty great and come with iOS 4.1, Apple has decided to make them exclusive to iPhone 4. So while you can install iOS 4.1 on your older Apple smartphones, you can’t benefit from these features directly. Fortunately, if you have a jailbroken iPhone 3G or 3GS, you can easily enable both these features without any hassle.

Now that you know what we are headed to accomplish, let’s get on with it. Here is the step by step guide for enabling HDR and GameCenter on iPhone 3G/3GS on iOS 4.1:

  • The first step is to jailbreak your iPhone if you haven’t done so already.
  • Now launch Cydia.
  • Type “HDR/Game Center Enabler” in the Cydia search bar. In case there are no search results, make sure that you have ModMyi Repo installed. You can check for this in Cydia Sources.
  • Once you get the search result, install HDR and GameCenter Enabler. This will also install WinterBoard in case you don’t have it already.
  • Once the installation is complete, launch Winterboard on your iPhone 3G and select HDR-GameCenter Enabler. On iPhone 3GS, you simply need to select HDR-enabler.

There you go! You can now take photos in HDR and enjoy the GameCenter.
