Facebook Widget For GO Launcher EX: Better Than The Original [Android]

The GO Launcher Dev Team is at it again. After updating their prized home screen replacement app twice in the past week, adding two amazing new icon transition effects to its app drawer, the team has now released yet another home screen widget for the launcher. The addition of the new GOWidget for Facebook makes GO Launcher EX one of the only popular launchers to have a built-in Facebook widget – one that is, perhaps, better than that of the official Facebook client for Android. The 4×4 widget lets you scroll through all of the Most Recent posts from your Facebook timeline or your own Profile, preview photos, post status updates and upload photos right from your home screen and opens a separate screen for Liking and/or adding comments to a post. The widget, like the launcher itself, is available for free on the Android Market. More after the break.

An excellent addition to GO Launcher EX, indeed. The interface is the same as that of all the other GOWidget – sleek and efficient. Three buttons lined up in the top right corner of the widget allow you to switch between Most Recent and Profile timelines, post status updates/photos and refresh the widget manually. The widget can be set to retrieve new posts after regular intervals (of 6, 12 or 24 hours). It does not do so by default. To set the automatic refresh interval, hold down on an empty space (in the middle) of the top bar, select Configure from the context menu that appears and Update interval from the screen that follows.

The widget also serves as a shortcut to the official Facebook app. Tap “Facebook” in the top left corner and the widget will launch Facebook for Android if you have it installed. If not, it will simply open Facebook’s mobile website within the default browser. Tapping on a post reveals the number of comments and Likes received and allows you to Like the post yourself or add your own comments from within a separate screen.

You can download the widget from the Android Market for free via the provided link or QR code or from within the launcher, provided it is updated to the latest version. Hold down on an empty space on the home screen, select GOWidget from the context menu that appears, select Facebook and tap Download to do so.

“GO Launcher EX the only popular launcher to have a built-in Facebook widget” except for LauncherPro which has had a facebook widget for a while now that does all of the same things.

    • Thanks for the correction, Chris. Fixed.

Your URL is dead to the market failed:

“De gevraagde URL kan niet worden gevonden op deze server.”

However, I have it installed already. It is very good. My only compaint is that one cannot launch into the offcial FB application for notications etc, and neither is the widget partially transparent akin to the smoked versions of Facebook’s offcial app.
