Earlier we covered a post on rooting the HTC Flyer via Fre3vo and while that worked, most people don’t want to end up dishing out ADB commands to execute and risk messing their phones up. So if you’re an avid Android user but do not have the patience to dwell into getting your hands dirty on course to manually rooting the HTC Flyer, XDA-Developers forum member zhangqip has just released a ROM that may be stock, but is completely rooted and also de-bloated to some extent.
What does this mean? This means that is you have an S-Off HTC Flyer, you can throw this ROM onto the SD card, boot up the phone in bootloader mode and voila! You would have complete root access. The ROM also brings full phone support (Bluetooth Dialer) and an HBOOT update to it.
So here’s how you can get this ROM up and running on your device.

Rooted ROM for HTC Flyer. (
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 links not working anymore)
- To begin, download the ROM from the link above, and extract it.
- Rename it to PG41IMG.zip (.zip being the extension.).
- Copy the it to the root of your SD card and reboot into bootloader mode.
- The phone will detect the ROM automatically and will guide you through the installation process, so just follow the on screen instructions.
That’s it, your device should now boot into a rooted ROM and you your have root access. For updates and queries, visit the forum thread at XDA-Developers.
