Tired of the same old stock Froyo ROM on your HTC Desire HD? Tired of HTC Sense and want to move to a more stock Android interface? Want to try out CyanogenMod out on your device? GingerMod is a new ROM for HTC Desire HD based on CyanogenMod 6.1.0 RC2 (which uses Android 2.2.1) that brings the UI enhancements introduced in Gingerbread combined with the usability enhancements offered by CyanogenMod, to your phone. This ROM is only intended for advanced users who cannot wait to get their hands on Gingerbread look and feel. If you are a casual user, we recommend that you wait for an official CyanogenMod version based on Android 2.3.

Released recently by XDA-Developers forum member mowmo, GingerROM adds several Gingerbread UI features to the latest release candidate of CyanogenMod including Gingerbread theme, icons, keyboard, browser and menus to give your OS a Gingerbread makeover. Note that this ROM should not be considered as a substitute for the full functionality of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, as it is still based on Froyo-based CyanogenMod. The Gingerbread enhancements are pretty much solely in form of the looks. That said, the features of Froyo-based CyanogenMod can also be worth having for many of us, above stock Android.
You can grab the ROM from the link given below and flash it to your phone using from a custom recovery like ClockworkMod the standard way. Don’t forget to perform a backup first in case you may want to ever revert to your current ROM again. Don’t forget to wipe data, cache and Dalvik cache before flashing the ROM. Once the ROM has been flashed, you may also want to flash the latest Google Apps package for froyo on your device.
For updates, feature requests and bug reports, head over to the ROM’s XDA-Developers forum thread and read the user response, or post your question there.
Download GingerMod CM6.1.0 RC2 Update: The ROM was hosted on Megaupload and therefore it is no longer available. We could not find any mirrors either. However, much more current, stable and fully functional Android 2.3 Gingerbread based CyanogenMod 7 is now available for HTC Desire HD and we highly recommend using that ROM instead. For more information and complete installation instructions, see our guide on installing CM7 on HTC Desire HD.
