How To Install Gingerbread Based CyanogenMod 7 On T-Mobile LG G2X

t-mobile-g2x-cm7The T-Mobile LG G2X is the variant of the LG Optimus 2X which is one of the most powerful Android devices out in the market right now. A powerful phone demands a worthy ROM, and CyanogenMod 7 steps up to that challenge. Yup, that’s right, the much famous CyanogenMod 7 – although it’s a Nightly release – is now available for the T-Mobile LG G2X. More on how to install after the jump.

WiFi, GPS, Audio, Camera front and rear are functional for now but a few other bugs do exist. Some occasional audio problems can arise (reboot to fix that). You may also witness some issues with automatic brightness. So let’s get this ROM up and running on your phone.

Instructions:

The instructions would be based on 3 parts, Drivers, ClockworkMod recovery and finally flashing the CM7 ROM.

Driver Installation

  1. Remove the battery and plug your phone to the PC via USB.
  2. Now hold Volume Up/Down keeping them held down till Windows detects a new APX device.
  3. Open Device Manager in Windows and you should see APX Device listed with an error icon.
  4. Right click on the APX device > Update driver software > Browse my computer > Let me pick > Have disk.
  5. Browse to directory  where you extracted the driver software to: One-Click-G2x-recovery-flash\APX.
  6. Now in Device Manager under USB Controllers you should have an NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for mobile devices.

Installing ClockworkMod recovery

  1. Remove the battery and plug your phone to the PC via USB.
  2. Goto NvFlash directory and run OneClickRecoveryFlasher.exe.
  3. Unplug the USB cable from your phone.
  4. Hold Vol Up/Down. (Keep them held until you see the S/W Upgrade screen on your phone after you complete step7).
  5. Plug in the USB cable to your phone.
  6. Click the Flash ClockworkMod Test2 button.
  7. You should see the screen showing a message saying S/W Upgrade – Please wait while upgrading…..
  8. Once the files are sent and the program is finished running in the command window, you CAN just pull the USB cord or be safe and just wait a few extra minutes, however it will still say “upgrading”.
  9. Put the battery back in and you can now boot into Recovery.

Installing CM7 Nightly

  1. To begin, simply copy the ROM you downloaded from the link above on to the root of your SD card and flash it via ClockworkMod recovery. (Boot into recovery by powering your phone off and holding Volume down + Power button, letting go of them once you the words Android written in orange on the screen.)

If you’re unfamiliar with flashing ROMs via recovery, see our guide on how to flash ROMs and .zip files via recovery in Android.
