View in galleryLooks like developers working on gaining root access on the HTC Vivid are seemingly close to a breakthrough. The device featuring the massive 4.5” S-LCD screen and some dual core goodness can now be temporarily rooted thanks to XDA-Developers forum member bjg222 for releasing the easiet possible root solution for the Vivid. However, further credit also goes to Revolutianry for zergRush, ChainsDD/androidsucom for SuperUser, stericson for busybox, arunp44, Jimmy273, and cyber_pete.
The root uses the famous zergRush exploit and has been tested to work on AT&T’s Vivid while it also seems to be working on the Canadian variant as well. According to the developer, the exploit should give you a permanent root rather than temporary root access if you somehow managed to unlock your bootloader. You can do so via the HTCDEV website if the support is available.
So on with the root process!
Disclaimer: Please follow this guide at your own risk. AddictiveTips will not be liable if your device gets damaged or bricked during the process.
- To begin, download the root package and extract the contents.
- Make sure USB debugging is enabled on your device. (Settings > Applications > Development.)
- Connect the device to the PC and make sure to select Charge only mode.
- Open the extracted zip package and run the RUNME.bat file to begin the rooting process.
Of course since the root is only temporary you will loose your root privileges once you reboot. In such a case, repeat steps 3 and 4.
