iOS 5.0 untethered jailbreak demo video has spread like wildfire on the Internet! iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users are all gripped in excitement since renowned hacker and developer pod2G released a video of what seems to be the iPod 3G running iOS 5.0 jailbroken, but unthered. Now what is even more awesome, is the recent tweet by pod2G, that the very jailbreak demonstrated in the video, will actually work for iOS 5.0.1 as well. This has to be a huge relief for people who had updated to iOS 5.0.1, only to hear news that they might not be able to jailbreak their devices because the untethered jailbreak we all have been looking forward to, will work only on the iOS 5.0. Phew! Glad that scare is over.
For now, we are not sure whether this jailbreak – the one shown in the video below – is actually going to work for non jailbroken devices such as the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, but I guess we will soon find out. Incase you stumbled upon this post and have no clue why this unthethered jailbreak is such a huge deal, we can tell you that with a tethered jailbreak, you wont be able to boot your device at all, let alone reboot into a jailbroken state. Untethered jailbreak allows you reboot your device, not only keeping the basic functionality intact, but retaining the jailbreak as well.
Now that you’ve seen the video, and the tweet, allow us to still advise you to stay away from updating to iOS 5.0.1 if you’re big on jailbreaking your iDevice, because well, you never know.
