It was noted previously that redsn0w for jailbreaking iPhone 3G and 3GS wasn’t working for iPhone 3GS and always gave a custom .ipsw error. Although there are multiple versions of redsn0w and other such tools out, but seemingly none of them is addressing the iPhone 3GS jailbreak issue on Windows.
The recent launch of the PwnageTool 4.0 also claims jailbreak for iPhone 3GS and you can check it out here but again, it is for Mac only. Apart from all these tools, we came across this method at Sizlopedia for restoring your iPhone 3GS manually by cooking a custom ipsw firmware on Windows OS.
Here is the step by step guide on how to Jailbreak iOS 4 on iPhone 3GS using windows.
- The first step is to download all these 5 parts of the ipsw files: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4 , part 5
- Now join all these files using any file joiner/splitter program or HJsplit.
- Once the files are joined to make one custom iOS 4 .ipsw file, now sync your iPhone 3GS with iTunes 9.2 Beta.
- Now put your iPhone 3GS in DFU Mode and restore the custom iOS 4 Firmware file that you just made using iTunes 9.2.
- After restore, reboot your phone and there you go! You have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS in your hands. Enjoy it!
