Official Android Gingerbread OTA For Optimus S Available [Sprint]

Finally there is some great news for LG Optimus S users as Sprint has finally started rolling out official Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for this phone. The update will provide Optimus S users with a major overhaul and will beef up the outdated Froyo OS to the delicious and latest Gingerbread. Although the update is primarily Gingerbread, but there are some improvements coming along as well.

Here is a list of all the improvements that are coming in this update for Optimus S:Opti-S-GB

  1. Phone volume adjustment from handset when backlight is off or when you are in a Bluetooth call.
  2. Providence of 3-way call in certain geographic locations.
  3. All new and fancy color scheme with darker notification bar and blackish menus.
  4. Revamped onscreen keyboard for better typing.
  5. Enhanced Cut-Paste functionality .
  6. Standalone Download app from Sprint to manage downloaded files.
  7. Camera application thoroughly redesigned to give better results.
  8. New power and task management apps.

According to Sprint, the new version is LS670XVH and will be available for all Sprint Optimus S customers within 10 days starting yesterday.

You will soon receive a software update notification from your carrier. If that is not the case, then head to settings > About Phone and tap on System Updates. You should be connected over 3G or Wi-Fi to let your phone search for the update. Once the update’s availability is confirmed, you will prompted on-screen to proceed with installation. Follow onscreen instructions to detail and you will be updated to the latest official Android 2.3 Gingerbread within 20 to 30 minutes.

It is important to mention that if you already have root on your device, then you can lose these previliges after updating your phone. The best strategy, if you are root, is to wait for a custom ROM to integrate the changes and firmware base.
