Momondo is a free travel search engine that fetches its results from no less than 700 travel websites to help you find cheap flights to your preferred destinations. The service has had its official iOS client available in the iTunes App Store for quite some time now, whereas its Android variant has just recently been released to the Android Market. Like other popular flight searching apps (such as Kayak, Hipmunk and SkyScanner), Momondo also offers you the facility to search for, filter and compare the best possible flights all across the word right from your mobile device. The app is very simpler to use, easy on the eyes and offers a more than adequate set of options than most other apps of its genre.
The app’s neat, elegant and uncluttered UI is worth admiring. What’s best is that you don’t need to register. Instead, the app opens to a screen that lets you immediately get on with the task of searching for a flight.
On this screen, you have a couple of tabs that let you select between a Round Trip or One-Way journey. From within each tab, you must pick your location of departure and arrival, and the date(s) on which you would like to travel. You can pick both locations by manually searching for them either by the airport or city name.
Once all details are provided, just tap the Search Flights button. The screen that follows lists all the search results relevant to your specified criteria. Each result is supplemented by further details such as the airline service, online booking supplier/web service, flight’s time of arrival/departure, number of stops, and the total fare.
To narrow your search criteria even further, you can select the Filter button from the result screen. This lets you filter search results by Price, Departure, Duration, number of Stops, Time of day (departure and returning), Airports or by Airlines.
Tapping a result takes you to another screen from where you can confirm the details of the trip and opt to Book now (takes you to the website of associated service), share flight result via email and/or save the result for later. You can view all your saved results by tapping the Saved Searches button on the app’s homescreen. By default, the app displays air fares in US Dollars, but you have the choice of picking a currency of your liking by selecting App Settings from the app’s homescreen.
