PlanDroid is a multi-purpose Android app that comes with a built-in to-to list manager, calendar, task reminder and note editing tool to help you manage your routine tasks and notes from one place. Using the app, you can define various categories, and add all the relevant tasks under each category, complete with relevant priority levels, multiple reminders, notes, estimated completion time, and a brief description. Apart from exporting and importing the task list to and from local storage, you can also sync it with the app’s native calendar to get a comprehensive overview of your agenda for a particular day. In addition, the notes editor of the app provides you with commonly used text-editing tools (bold, italic, underline, highlight etc.) to help you prepare notes. That’s not all; the app offers extensive configuration for your reminders/alerts, and lets you tweak its homescreen according to your requirements.
Task/to-do list management, note taking and calendar replacement apps are aplenty in the Android Market, but few offer a unified platform for all your personal planning and management needs. This feature, when coupled with its simple to use and uncluttered interface, makes PlanDroid worth a try.
By default, the app opens to the To-Do List tab that displays all your added tasks by priority. You can, however, sort this list in multiple ways. Tapping the button alongside the Sort by: option lets you decide whether you wish to view your to-do list according to due date, date added, in alphabetical order, by category, attachment, or completion time/status. Tapping the arrow displayed beside said button lets you export and import task lists to and from local storage.
To add a new task, just feed in the required title in the text field provided at the bottom, and tap the ‘+’ icon. The screen that follows lets you define various details relevant to the task. In this regard, you may (add and) specify a category, description, due date/time, priority level, and set as many as four different reminders for each added task. From the same screen, you may also opt to sync the task with your calendar events, and attach a document created using the app.
On the to-do list screen, each task is displayed along with its category (identified by a color-coded bar), priority level, due time and added reminders/attachments (if any). Long pressing a pending task marks it as done; doing the same for a completed task does the opposite.
While within the Calendar tab, you can easily switch to monthly, weekly or daily view by using the tabs at the bottom. Similarly, the Agenda screen lists all the tasks for a selected day, each displayed against the time of day for which it is scheduled.
The app’s note editor can be launched by tapping the Documents tab at the top of the app’s homescreen. Swiping in from the right edge of the editor interface reveals a compact toolbar with all commonly used text editing tools including bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, text highlighter, custom text color selector, and most important of them all, the save, new and open buttons. The app uses the mnt/sdcard/plandroid folder to store all the documents as well as exported to-do lists.
All in all, a great app that can be enhanced even further with features such as support for syncing and sharing content across multiple devices and calendars, attaching multimedia with notes, and last but not the least, a nifty widget to access and manage tasks/notes right from the homescreen.
