Earlier we covered how HTC decided not to rollout Gingerbread update for HTC Desire and how angry reactions from users forced them into reverting their decision. At the time of initial announcement that HTC Desire will indeed get updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread, there wasn’t a timeline given to keep tap on progress or to know when exactly the update will start rolling out.
HTC has been in hot waters over unlocked bootloader issue for HTC Sensation, as there is no update after initial announcement. But this time, HTC has decided to “open” up and share their progress with users in real time./ The latest Facebook Note on the official HTC fan page says and we quote:
Hi all- We’re excited to share that we are testing our build of Gingerbread for HTC Desire and will start doing quality assurance for it this week. When we have an update on availability we’ll post another announcement. Thanks for your patience.
As this is the official announcement from HTC Desire, so we can expect a world over rollout of Android 2.3.x Gingerbread update for HTC Desire in couple of weeks now. Although Quality Assurance is a long and lengthy process, but we believe that engineers at HTC are capable enough to test and release the ROM as soon as it is ready for public consumption. In our humble opinion, which has a tendency to grow wrong, the Gingerbread roll out for HTC Desire should start by 15th July provided that quality assurance staff doesn’t come up with major glitches or bugs.
We are keeping a keen eye on the development that’s taking place and we will update our news section once there is any other news. And for those who can’t really stand the “waiting” frustration, you can root your device and then install / flash a custom Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM on your HTC Desire. Some famous Gingerbread based custom ROMs for HTC Desire are: CyanogenMOD, MIUI and Oxygen.
