Thankfully, Microsoft isn’t proving to be as strict and closed about granting OS level access for Windows Phone 7 to developers as Apple is for iOS. With the Mango update, third-party apps can now access features like messages, camera, contacts, etc. This has resulted in the appearance of a bunch of new apps in the Marketplace that make use of these stock features. See Through Messaging is one such app that makes good use of SMS and camera access granted through Mango. Using this app, you can now text while walking and be aware of what’s under your feet or coming at you from straight ahead without having to take your eyes off the screen.
I don’t know about you, but I haven’t gotten used to texting on a touchscreen device without looking at the screen continuously. With my previous dumb-phone, I always texted without looking at the phone by just feeling for the keys on the keypad (a much harder feat when there are no physical keys on the phone). So, if you really miss texting while walking and want to avoid bumping into other people while doing it, “See through Messaging” is the perfect app for you. Admittedly, the concept is not entirely new, but this app is free and comes with a pretty neat interface, hence warranting a download for all the addicted texters out there.
What the app basically does is launching the camera app, and, on top of it, overlaying its own minimalist and colorful interface. The app doesn’t clutter the screen with too many options. All you have is a translucent text box and buttons to add recipients. See through Messaging supports both landscape and normal view, although it is advisable that you don’t use it in landscape as that way the keyboard takes up most of the screen, thereby killing the purpose of the app.
See Through Messaging is an app that can be considered a battery-killer to some extent, so it is better if you use it only sparingly and never as an alternative to the actual Messaging app. Also, the app lags a fraction of a second, so don’t rely on it too much if you are in a really crowded area. Having said that, See through Messaging is a pretty good bargain for a free app, and you can download it from the Web Marketplace link given below.
