Flory is a free Windows Phone 7 app that lets you chat on Google Talk as well as Facebook Chat right from your Windows Phone 7 device. The app was initially released in German but due to popularity and high demand, the latest update has brought English language support to it. If you own a Windows Phone 7 device and want to use it for Google Talk or Facebook Chat, this app is for you!
Flory brings something to Windows Phone 7 that has been in very high demand – support for Google Talk. In fact the lack of a Google Talk client has been one of the main reasons for several people not using their Windows Phone 7 devices as their primary phones. Thankfully, the wait is now over.
Just like most Windows Phone 7 apps, Flory makes efficient use of the Metro interface and presents the contact lists for Flory, Google Talk and Facebook side by side, which you can switch by swiping your finger along the screen.
While the app has recently got an update to add English language support, the update hasn’t rolled out to everyone yet and is available in some regions only for now. Though it will be available in all regions soon. For us, it’s still in German but despite that, we have no problem at all using it as the interface is self-explanatory.
Flory can be installed for free from Windows Live Marketplace and once installed, you can pin it to your home screen for quick access. The home screen tile is live and shows new message count while the app alerts you whenever a message is received.
Upon first launch, you will have to register for a Flory account to be able to use the app but once you login with that account, you will be able to login with your Google Talk as well as Facebook accounts in the settings. Both regular Google accounts and Google Apps accounts are supported and in case of Facebook Chat, you are required to login with your Facebook username rather than email address.
Flory works on any Windows Phone 7 device. Testing was done on HTC HD7 and Samsung Omnia 7.
