Zynga is one of the most popular developers of web and mobile games, specifically their ‘friends’ game series i.e. Words With Friends and Hanging With Friends. After the triumphant success of the duo, they have introduced a third title in the series, called Scramble With Friends Free for iOS and Android. Like former titles, this new game is extremely enjoyable. It lets you play scramble games online, either against your friends or a random opponent chosen by Zynga servers. If you have ever played a scramble game in your life, then you may already know its rules, but for first timers (like me), here’s how you play the game. The basic principle is to find as many words as possible in a grid of jumbled letters, in a limited amount of time (usually two minutes). The player with the most number of created words wins the game. Let’s take a closer look at the game after the jump.
The game opens to a login screen where you can either use your Facebook or email account to sign in. A tutorial is displayed during startup, to familiarize you with the gameplay. As mentioned earlier in the post, Scramble With Friends is an online game and you’d need another person to play it. You can choose from your Facebook friends, your existing contacts list or select Random Opponent from the game’s homescreen for a quick game. This automatically creates a gaming session between you and another player looking for a match.
After a successful connection, just tap Play to start the game. The next step is to Pick Power-Ups, which are essentially special actions that assist you during the match. There are a total of three power-ups, where each has a unique attribute. For instance, Freeze lets you stop time so you can scramble a few more words during one of your turns, and Inspiration will show hints pointing to words you can create. While the first is free, the other two can only be obtained by spending tokens. You are provided with 14 tokens in the beginning, but you can always go online to purchase more if you desire so.
Players have to complete three consecutive rounds of scrambling. The game is turn based, which means you have to wait while your opponent creates words and vice. The control scheme consists of sliding your finger over adjacent letters in a jumbled grid such that a word is created. The more letters in a word, the more points you get.
As far as visuals are concerned, the game has a classy presentation with sleek menus and buttons that feel pleasant to the eyes.
Scramble With Friends isn’t just an extremely entertaining game, it is a fun way of increasing your vocabulary. The game is available for free on the Google Play Store. You can download it to your device via the link or QR code provided below.
