Introducing The Shiny New AddictiveTips Newsletter

AddictiveTips has partnered with MailChimp to bring you minimalist and easy-to-read email newsletter. Our previous newsletter was powered by Google Feedburner, which did not provide us with enough customization options, making it difficult for our subscribers to read daily articles.

This brand new newsletter is part of our goal to make browsing and reading content more easier. If you have any feature request or bugs to report, do not hesitate to contact me at nakodari [at] addictivetips.com

Meanwhile, if you have not subscribed to our newsletter yet, you can do so easily from the Daily Newsletter signup box on the right sidebar of our website or by clicking here.

Below you can see how our email newsletter looks like.

As I wrote to you privately (but which probably bears repeating for everyone’s benefit), the earlier email newsletter had one fatal flaw: It contained the ENTIRE articles, one after another, on one big long email newletter page…

…rather than just a paragraph or two (a “teaser”) from each aticle, with a “Read more…” (or equivalent) link at the bottom of each teaser, which “Read more…” link, if clicked-on by the reader, took said reader to the full article on its own page on your web site.

The problem with doing it that way was two-fold:

First, it made for excruciatingly long and laborious downward scrolling in the newsletter to get past whatever the reader wanted to skp; and…

…secondly, it gave the reader no incentive to actually visit your site (which, as any web site owner knows, is the whole point) since all s/he needed to read was right there, in its entirety, in the newsletter.

The front (and successive) page(s) of your web site, itself, has(have) always done it right by providing only a “teaser” from the beginning of each article, and then a “Reade more…” link for each article which, if clicked-on by the reader, took him/her to the full article, on its own page…

…which is how it’s SUPPOSED to be done both on the web site and in the newsletter. But, for some reason, it didn’t do it that way in the previous newsletter version.

Now, gratefully, it does. BRAVO! Thank you!!

However, though I’d have to go look it up, I thought FeedBurner provided that feature (the one where there are just teasers, with “Read more…” links). If so, then that feature, alone, shouldn’t have sent you to MailChimp. If I’m right, then there must have been additional customization reasons. Either that or, if I’m right, then maybe you guys, there in… where you, again?… Pakistan?…

…maybe the version of FeedBurner offered to people in Pakistan has some feature limitations or something.

Or maybe I’m wrong… but I THOUGHT (possibly wrongly) that FeedBurner provided that “teaser” with “Read more…” feature. Maybe someone who knows can chime-in.

No matter… I, for one, just LOVE the new newsletter. It’s so, so, so much easier to use, now. The old version, with its full articles all on a single email newsletter page, was making me positively nuts! I found myself, each time I got a newsletter, just ignoring its articles and, instead, just clicking on the Addictive Tips logo at the top of the newsletter to take me to the front page of your site (which, since that’s the whole point, from your perspective, was fine for you… but sucked for me) and then just reading the article “teasers” there. Now I can just do it in the newsletter, and only go to the actual articles that I want to read. Nice.

The new newsletter just plain LOOKS nicer, too. So good job there, as well.

    KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
