So we released MSE Update Utility a few weeks back and it had some bugs. One of the most serious was the Exception Error which was due to the date format. This error is fixed now, but we did however find something interesting along the way.
It would work for every US, Short Date Format except in which “MMM” comes because in these type format the Month’s no. is replaced by its Name e.g (27/11/09) = (27-Nov-09) so VB(Visual Basic) is not able to interpret Nov and gives an error, rest it’ll work perfectly.
You can yourself try it on different Short Date Formats, and Short Date Format can be changed from “Control Panel > Clock, Language, and Region > Change the date, time or number format”.
We changed a major code of it, so you can also see if it updates Daily, Weekly and Monthly as required by just changing your System Date.
Please note that it requires .NET Framework 3.5 to run. Grab the latest version from the MSE Update Utility homepage.
1. We might add proxy support(only if you guys ask for it).
2. The next release will have an option to check for updates multiple times a day(every 1 hour, every 2 hours, every 6 hours, and so on).
If you find any bugs or want any other feature, do let us know in the comments.
‘Slow Tips Day’ And Other Rants
Ever heard of the term “Slow News Day”, you can call today a “Slow Tips Day”. We are taking a small break today due to holidays but the tips will be back from tomorrow and this time you guys are in for a surprise.
We have a record for posting tips every day, even if it is one tip a day(you can count this post as a tip :P). Its been more than a year and we are still going strong.
Please Note: If you are having a certain problem or would love to request some tips, do let us know. We can technically work on almost any problem and try to fix it, and when we can’t, then there is always a workaround. 😉
