Looking for the cheapest Galaxy Nexus deal in your vicinity, or do you wish to advertise your for-sale Sedan in the easiest possible way? Try Antengo – a free location and category-based classified ad-listing web service that helps buyers and sellers strike perfect deals with each other. The service has had its iOS client in the iTunes App Store for quite some time, and now, its Android variant has finally arrived in the Market. Using Antengo mobile client of, users can search for, browse or post a classified ad for virtually anything (ranging from movie tickets to gadgets) in real time. Through its intuitive and simple-to-use ad-posting mechanism, the app lets you find results pertaining to items/services of interest in a jiffy. You can search ads by location, category/sub-category, or simply scroll through the unending list of classified ads from the website. Details to follow.

Craiglist might be the spearhead of classified listing services, but Antengo surely is catching up fast, spreading its influence to major platforms. A good thing about Antengo’s mobile client is that it does not require you to log in to the service in order to explore and search for ads; only when you need to post ads. New accounts can be created from within the app for free.

To help you understand its interface and controls in an easier way, the app displays useful tips at startup. Once logged in, you can immediately start posting your own ads in just five simple steps.

First up, specify whether you’re looking for something, or want to publish your own advertisement. In this regard, hit the appropriate tab at the top (For Sales & Offered or Wanted), provide a relevant ad Title and Description, and hit the Next button. In the next step, attach a photo of the item. For this, you may either snap a fresh image, or pick one from your device’s gallery.

From the screen that follows, pick a relevant Category and Sub Category for the ad, and specify your budget/demand (optional). Next, choose the location for which you wish to post the ad. For this, you can either place a pointer on map, or specify the city, state or ZIP code of the location.

Lastly, verify all the prerequisites, choose whether you wish to share the ad on Facebook and/Twitter, and hit Post.

The app’s main interface comprises four main tabs, namely Browse, Post, Messages and Accounts. Hitting Browse lets you explore all the content on the Antengo network by List, Map and Photo. To narrow down your search criteria, you can hit the Filter option. For each listed ad, the app displays a photo, description, date of posting, relevant distance from your location, and the exact location of posting on map. Interested in an offer? Hit the Send Message button to contact the owner, or tap the Share button at the top to let your friends know about the deal.

The Post tab opens the aforementioned ad posting/searching screen, the Messages tab contains your personal Antengo messages, and the Accounts tab lets you manage your Antengo profile, and edit privacy and sharing settings.

RemoveAds is a desktop application for blocking ads from instant messengers like ICQ, MSN Messenger, PalTalk, and others. It comes with a heuristic analyzer that allows blocking all kinds of advertisement formats without requiring regular updates for the application. RemoveAds starts working immediately after installation, and does not require any advanced, or even basic, configurations. Furthermore, it is compatible with all popular instant messengers and other applications. Removing ads from applications can not only decrease the loading time (of the applications), but can also save you from tracking agents.

All you have to do is install RemoveAds, and the advertisements will automatically be blocked from applications. To view the list of blocked advertisers, launch RemoveAds and head over to the Database tab.

If you would like to suggest a website for being added to the ads database, then go to the Advertising Site Suggestions sub-tab (within Database tab), and send the domain to the developer. While sending the website URLs, you can also select a category for the site, e.g., Anti-Ad or Parental Control.

As you can see in the below comparison, the ad was successfully blocked from Windows Live messenger after the installation of RemoveAds.

Despite being quite a handy application, RemoveAds does have a downside, i.e., it does not provide any kind of configuration options to add exceptions, and is not very effective in terms of blocking browser ads, including in-text advertisements. Moreover, sometimes, one requires launching the application manually, in order to get instant messenger ads removed. RemoveAds works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Pandora is a famous online radio and music recommendation service that includes every type of music, but the visual ads on newly designed HTML 5 based Pandora interface can be really annoying. PandoraEnhancer is a Chrome extension to get rid of all visual advertisements from the revamped HTML 5 interface. Additionally, it comes with features to send desktop notifications for song changes, select and copy lyrics to clipboard, remove “Are you still listening” dialog, disable tooltips, conceal header ribbons & promobox, and extend station listing.

Pandora has different banner ads that are displayed to the right of the page.

This extension removes all advertisements from interface and displays the Pandora background image instead. You can choose to display notifications when a video ad is skipped. Furthermore, lyrics of the current song can be copied to the clipboard.

It sends desktop notifications, which show artist and track name every time the track is changed.

Once you’ve installed PandoraEnhancer, a button will be added next to address bar. Clicking that button reveals the Options page, from where you can remove banner & visual ads, tooltips, top ribbon and promobox in order to extend the station list. You can also append configure link to Pandora header and enable option to send notifications when the song changes, when “Still Listening?” dialog is skipped or when a video ad is blocked.

PandoraEnhancer is a handy extension and is worth a look for regular users of Pandora.

So if you are a jailbroken iOS user, Disable iAds will make sure that you don’t suffer because of ads ever again.

If you search for this tweak in your Cydia store, you probably won’t find it straight away. That’s because it is present in one of the lesser known repos named Kokoabim. So first of all you have to add that repo to your Cydia sources (http://apt.kokoabim.com/ios). Head over to this Kokoabim tutorial to add the repo if you are new to Cydia and don’t know how to add new repos to your store.

Once you have done that, simply search for “Disable iAds” and install the tweak. It has no interface either as a Springboard icon or in the Settings menu. The tweak just takes effect once you re-spring your device after installation. If it does not, you might have to restart your device to make it work. The result is as promised, which you can see in the screenshot above.

The tweak is free and being completely unobtrusive, certainly warrants a try.

Windows Live Messenger remains one of the world’s most popular instant messaging platforms, and it makes sense why Microsoft should choose to display loads of advertisements in the messenger’s main window and chat windows. While they may not be very annoying, they can sometimes becomes a real nuisance when your click accidentally lands on any of these.

A-Patch is a tool that not only removes advertisements from Windows Live Messenger, but also adds quite a lot of additional enhancements that can improve your chatting experience.

The program basically patches an existing installation of the Live Messenger, and recently it has been updated to support Windows Live Messenger Wave 4 (15.3.2804.0607) & Wave 3 (14.0.8117.0416, 14.0.8089.0726, 14.0.8064.0206, 14.0.8050.1202).

All you need to do is run the downloaded A-Patch file, provide WLM’s installation path and select the options that you want to apply. A preview window in the right shows how the changes would be reflected. You can choose to remove advertisements, the ‘featured’ section, remove the nudge delay, add multi-messenger support, among various others. You may also save a particular set of settings, so that you can use them with later installations of WLM.

A-Patch is a freeware and supports a lot of older versions of Live Messenger, back to the time when it was called MSN Messenger instead of being incorporated in the Windows Live suite of applications. The download page lists all the older versions as well, should you need them.

Are you annoyed by the text ads in Gmail? GMail Without Ads is a Greasemonkey script for Firefox browser that removes the ads from Gmail completely. By installing this script, the advertisement from the right sidebar will vanish and the message box will be automatically extended, giving you more width and visibility. In other words, it completely removes the right sidebar.

Most people will argue that we can remove the ads using Adblock Plus add-on for Firefox too. This is true but it does not remove the right sidebar, nor does it increase the width  of the message box.

With this script, you can both remove the advertisement and  increase the width of the message box. Note that the links on the right sidebar such as Print All, Expand All, etc will be removed too. Since I don’t use these links, it is totally fine with me using this script. Enjoy!

Block Pop ups With Firefox Built-In Feature

Pop up windows can be blocked in Firefox that disables automatic image loading. By default it comes with this feature enables but if this setting has been changed, you can go to the menu bar, select Tools > Options > Content tab.

Check Block Pop-up windows and Load images automatically, if you don’t want pop-up ads to load their images automatically. But if you find certain sites that displays ads relevant to your browsing sessions then you can add an exception by clicking on exception tab and add the relative web address in the list.

Filter Ads Through Adblock Plus

Adblock Plus is an extensive addon and is one of the sole reasons I use Firefox, it blocks banner ads and replaces them with a blank space so that you may never notice an ad was in that place ever. Once user install this extension, they can hover mouse around a web page and point to the banner or ad , right clicking on it and choose Adblock from the menu.

Users can choose a filter subscription. A filter subscription lets users download filters from certain locations on the internet or on their disk automatically. By doing this users can use the filters created by others which will block most of the advertisements completely.
