Quickly Translate An Entire Webpage From Firefox Right Click Menu

Chrome users have it made; whenever you find yourself on a webpage in a language that isn’t your default, the browser automatically offers to translate. But Firefox users, while they don’t enjoy an inbuilt translate option, needn’t fret about copy-pasting entire paragraphs to a translation web service, either. Using the right-click context menu, you can translate either selected text via Translate Menu or, better yet, the whole page, via the TranslateWebpageAtGoogle add-on. Read More

Delete All Empty Folders In A Directory From Its Right-Click Menu

Empty folders are a nuisance, especially empty folders within other empty ones. They make it harder to search for something important. Usually, I’m content with letting them be, because locating each and every empty folder on your system just isn’t worth the bother. Tools like Empty Folder Cleaner speed up the process a great deal, but their bulky interfaces and extra features can prove to be a handful for some. If you want to satisfy your cleaning instinct with nothing more than a click, try out Sub4Del - a nifty, semi-portable tool that lets you delete all empty sub-folders within a directory of choice right from its right-click context menu. Get The Old Style Right-Click Context Menu Back In Chrome

Following its last update, Chrome did something rare: it made a UI change that modified the appearance of the right-click context menu. The new look is not bad in any sense; in fact it feels quite nice and clean. When I first saw it, I thought it had something to do with one of the extensions I had installed, though a little looking around made it clear that the change was brought about by the browser itself. As pretty as the context menu is now, not everyone might like it because they might have grown accustomed to the old one. If you miss that old appearance and are having difficulty adjusting to the new look, getting it back is super-simple. Read More

Applications like these give you greater control over your system without interfering with its normal functionality. Quickly Uninstall Unwanted Windows Apps From Right-Click Menu

Here at AddictiveTips, we try to bring our readers several application reviews each day. Before writing the post, we test the application in question extensively to make sure that whatever we are writing depicts the truth about the tool in question. The process involves installing a number of apps, testing them, and then picking out the best ones for the day to share with our readers. By the end of the day, all this ends up in a lot of unneeded software installed on the system, adding to the clutter and making the computer run slower. The default Windows uninstall utility allows you to uninstall applications from your computer, but you have to open the dialog box and look through the list of installed application before you uninstall them. We have covered some very useful uninstallation utilities such as Revo Uninstaller that includes additional clean-up tools, and Geek Uninstaller that removes all residue along with the application, including registry entries and context menu integrations. However, today we present you a simpler solution called Windows Uninstaller that lets you perform the task right from the context menu of installed applications, without ever opening another dialog box. Copy Path, Resize Images & Install Fonts From Windows 8 Context Menu

Some elements of Windows drastically improve productivity. The right-click context menu (a unified feature that is also present in Linux and Mac OS X) proudly stands among those elements. Earlier, we covered various applications that let you edit the context menu and push in various shell extensions and program shortcuts, not available by default. For instance, Menu Uninstaller adds uninstall command to the context menu to remove an application without going to Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel. Likewise, Context Menu Editor can add app shortcuts for quick access. Today, we stumbled upon another one such tool called ShellTools. It’s a powerful yet lightweight shell extension that can add a set of useful options to right-click menu. It can enable a wide-array of commands, such as Resize image, Install or Uninstall font, Copy size, Copy path, Show hidden files, Show file extensions, File note and Refresh icons. Read More

How To Sleep, Restart, Shutdown Windows 8 via Right Click Context Menu

Accessing power options in Windows 8 takes way too many steps. You first drag your mouse to the top right corner to activate Charms, click on Settings, click on Power and then click on Sleep, Shutdown or Restart. This can be reduced to just two steps by using Windows 8 keyboard shortcuts like ALT+F4 or Win+I, but it still isn’t as quick as one would like. With that in mind, SkyKOG on XDA Developers came up with a simple solution: put the Power options in the right click menu. Find how how to apply his ‘hack’ after the jump. Read More

Cooltweak: Resize, Watermark & Share Images From Windows Context Menu

Even simple tasks in photo editors (like image resizing and watermarking) become twice as complex if you’re not sure what you’re doing (let me not get even started on Photoshop). Amidst such situations, you’re better off with simpler solutions. Previously, we have covered some very cool and user-friendly image editing software that increases productivity and costs less effort. Cooltweak perfectly emulates that idea, and is designed to make photo resizing and watermarking images not farther than contextual menu access (could it get any simpler?). It also lets you share photos on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Picassa, without even firing up the web browser. The sub-menus themselves are also fully customizable to create custom actions. Read More

Amelita: Use Context Menu Options From The Mac Menu Bar

Right-click context menu shows the app-related settings and options in a menu, and that's why the options we see vary accordingly. Some options in the context menu are recurring, but being the context menu, it needs to be called separately in each app. Amelita is a free Mac app that runs in the menu bar and consolidates context menu options. It includes several of its own functions that allow you to send a command from one app to the other without having to launch the applications. A very common example of this would be text copied to your clipboard. You can paste this text to a number of apps, and Amelita makes it easier to do so. Pasting is of course an option you have available in the system context menus; Amelita also adds additional options that can be used with different apps. Read More

AnyMenu: Open Frequently Used Files & Programs via Middle Mouse Button

Shortcuts placed on your desktop allow you to have an easy and quick access to the frequently used applications, files and folders. Right now, when you have to open a program, for instance Skype, you just click either its desktop icon, or taskbar shortcut, depending on where you have placed it. Now, imagine if, instead of just clicking the shortcut, you had to open up the Windows Explorer and locate the Skype installation folder inside the Program Files directory and run the application from there. A lack of shortcuts would have taken a lot of time to perform simple tasks. However, like me, a lot of people like to keep their desktop as clean as possible. Shortcut Managers are a decent solution to this problem. They allow you to have both have shortcuts and keep your desktop clean at the same time. Today, we have a simple, portable application, called AnyMenu, which lets you have a custom shortcut menu that can be brought up by clicking the middle mouse button. You can add custom shortcuts for files, folder and applications, and create submenus for organizing similar shortcuts together. Read More

Using the application, you can, for instance, associate text files including .txt, .log, .csv etc., with MS Word or other text processing applications. It even lets you remove unnecessary property sheet entries of all file types. For example, if you want to disintegrate a third-party application's tab/options from file's property sheet, just select All Files from the list, expand Shell Extensions >PropertySheetHandlers, and delete the superfluous entries. The information required to recognize the file type and display its related options in context menu is saved in the Windows Registry. Last week, we covered a context menu editor called 7CMenuEditor.INC (reviewed here), which allows you to add custom application shortcuts and URLs to the desktop context menu. The HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT registry hive contains information about all file extensions and lets you add & remove context menu entries of any selected file extension.
