ServiWin is a portable utility from Nirsoft, which displays the list of installed drivers and services with indepth information which can help you identify and troubleshoot driver issues. The available information includes,  file description, version, product name, manufacturer’s name, driver status, boot configurations and error control information. Additionally, you can stop, start, restart, pause, and continue Windows services and installed drivers, change the startup configurations for them and save the list of services/drivers to a file.

Once ServiWin is launched, it displays in depth information about the installed drivers and services. What makes ServiWin quite useful as compared to viewing this information from “Services” or “Device Manager” option in Windows is the fact that many of the available details are not displayed in either Windows Services option or Device Manager. Moreover, the integrated view of driver and Windows Services data is quite convenient for comparing faulty services and drivers, particularly when they may be associated.

You can start, stop, pause, restart, continue a driver or service, as well as obtain reports in HTML format, view selected item’s properties, open Goggle search to view information about an executable or service and open the the registry configurations for an item from right-click context menu.

ServiWin also provides remote connectivity (by entering the host name) for viewing information regarding installed drivers and services for a remote machine from File –> Select Computer.

The mod will work best with the native apps such as the browser, Google Maps etc. Furthermore, you don’t even need to have a rooted device! So let’s get on with the mod.

Requirements:

• Multitouch Drivers.

Instructions:

1. To begin, extract the Multitouch Drivers you downloaded, to a folder of your choice.
2. Inside the Dual Touch folder, navigate to Flash Dual Touch Drivers and run X10FlashTool.exe.
3. Click on connect and select your phone when presented with a menu. You will see a window on your PC prompting you to connect your phone in Flashmode. Leave it be for now.
4. Now to put your phone in flash mode. Do this by pulling out the battery of the phone and connecting it via USB to the PC.
5. Now hold the Back key on your phone and put the battery back in. Keep holding the Back key till a green LED lights up. Now you click ok in the window that popped up in Step 3.
6. Once the phone is successfully connected, click on Flash and you will be prompted for a firmware selection.
7. Select the Enable Dual Touch drivers and click OK.
8. After the drivers are flashed, simply unplug your phone and restart it.

That’s it! Multitouch should be enabled on your phone now. You can test it out using the Touch Tester App on your phone. Please make sure to update to the latest firmware and apps on your phone for the best results. For updates and queries, visit the forum thread at XDA-Developers.

Having DirectX related problems can cause a number of issues on your PC. It can be anything from being unable to run Aero on Windows 7 to run time errors. In this post we will tell you how to identify your DirectX related problems and what can be some possible solutions. Particularly, regarding your display card drivers.

To see your DirectX version and to identify possible problems go to Run in the Start Menu and type dxdiag or dxdiag.exe and hit enter. This will display information regarding your DirectX version, PC name, processor, memory, bios,  page file information,etc. This will also allow you to check if you have the right DirectX version to run a specific application.

By going to the display tab you can see information regarding your display card to identify its elaborate properties. For example if you are being unable to run a game that requires your display card memory to be 500MB than it might be the case that your display card does not meet the basic memory requirements. You can resolve this by e.g., allocating more shared memory from bios to your display card.

Similarly you can identify and resolve conflicts related to your sound card and input devices. In case there is an error for example with your sound card, display card or an input device, it can be seen in the notes section.

You can also save this information in the form of a text file by clicking on the Save All Information button.

You can use the Dxdiag utility to not just identify Directx related issue but also for any driver problems related to your peripheral devices. This utility helped me identify Aero related problems with my old desktop when I realized that my display card does not have pixel shader 3.0 which is one of the prerequisites of running Aero in Windows 7. Many PC games and High Definition multimedia based software applications also require some basic drivers and display card requirements that can be easily identified by using this DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

SlimDrivers provides a facility to update the installed hardware drivers. However, Windows 7 has an intuitive way of updating/installing all the build-in drivers but there are many manufacturers which are not catered by Windows Update. SlimDrivers comes useful when you want to schedule or need to manually update hardware drivers from non-supported manufacturers.

It displays all the basic system-specific information on the main interface. To begin scanning for all the installed drivers, click Start Scan button.

It will start looking up for updates (the scanning process can be aborted at any time). Once the scanning is finished, it will lead you to Update Review window, where you can choose only required updates to be installed. Click Download All to download the specified updates. While testing we found that it listed more hardware updates when compared with the default Windows Update.

You can backup and restore the installed drivers. Schedule feature is also included to keep a check on latest updates. From Options window, you can configure application-specific, Backup, Restore, Update and Schedule settings.

The application is in beta phase, so you may encounter some interface-related glitches. It supports Windows Vista and Windows 7. We tested it on Windows 7 x86 system.

Comodo Programs Manager is freeware from Comodo which allows users to manage System drivers and services, Windows Features, and Windows Updates, and Add/Remove Programs functionality under one hood. In other words, it saves time and allows easier access to most important Windows features.

It offers a simple interface with the main functions listed and accessible from the left side bar. It offers four different sets of functions; uninstalling or repairing applications (similar to Windows Add/Remove function), listing system drivers and services, enabling/disabling Windows features, and listing Windows Updates.

From Programs side bar, you can select an application to repair or uninstall it. You can also create a backup of uninstalled applications by selecting the option from top-right Settings menu. By selecting this option, a backup is made for all applications that are uninstalled from the system. To restore a backup, click Programs from the side bar and then click Restore Backup.

In Drivers and Services, a list of all system drivers and services is maintained. Click on any driver/service to view options menu, which will also allow you to uninstall the driver from the system. Under Windows Features, you can check/uncheck Windows features to turn them on or off. You may be prompted to reboot your system to activate the changes. Windows Updates displays a list of all updates that have been installed for your system.

There is nothing peculiar about this application. It can only be used as an alternative to Windows-based features. Some functions should only be accessed if you’re a computer expert. For instance, you shouldn’t try to uninstall any system driver or service unless you’re certain about the results.

It supports Windows 7 OS, testing was carried out on Windows 7, x86 system.
