BetterDesktopTool Brings OS X Expose & Spaces-Like Features To Windows

Formerly known as Expose, Mission Control is one of Mac’s most talked about features. It gives a productivity boost to your everyday computer tasks by giving you a bird’s eye view of open windows, letting you easily locate the one you want to access. This feature has been absent from Windows since ever, and chances are that it may not likely make its way to Microsoft’s OS in the near future either. On the bright side, Windows has many third-party tools that replicate, or to some extent even beat, Expose by letting you use and control multiple virtual desktops on one screen. BetterDesktopTool is one such app that provides this facility in a user-friendly design. The application boasts plenty of features and is fairly easy to use. Read More

Get Mac OS X Exposé Feature In Windows

When we compare the features of Windows and Mac OS X toe to toe, OS X clearly wins out in most. It looks gorgeous, is more robust as well as more secure against viruses and other threats. This doesn’t imply calling Windows an inferior operating system at all, but the latter is still far from reaching where OS X already is. One of the most enticing features I find on OS X is Mission Control (formerly called as Exposé). Mission Control gives you a quick bird’s-eye view of all your opened windows to easily make a switch. Well, obviously you can use Alt + Tab or Win + Tab to quickly jump between your available windows, the method still feel a little primitive as compared to its OS X counterpart. Back in 2010, Aatif reviewed SmallWindows, which brings Exposé like feature to Windows. I found another such tool that holds much potential. This open source software is labelled Mission Control / Expose Clone W7 and it would definitely won’t hog your system’s performance while performing the said function. The application arranges live thumbnails of all your Windows, and piles up the similar applications in groups; for instance, all your web browsers are arranged in one pile etc. Read More

Bring Mac’s Expose Feature To Windows

Other than the brilliance of aesthetics that Macs display, they also come with some really useful features, one of them being Expose. For those who are not familiar with it, Expose lets you quickly bring focus to one open window/application from the clutter that may be occupying your desktop, and such clutters are really inevitable when you’re performing your routine tasks. One may argue that Windows already implements this kind of feature through its Alt + Tab combination (or in recent versions, Windows + Tab for Aero Peek). However, even with these options you are still to sift through icons/thumbnails, and you can get only one Window focused at a time. So here’s where SmallWindows comes into play. Read More
