Navegas is a slick online music player that can play YouTube, SoundCloud, Aupeo music, as well as music from your local system. You can instantly access tracks and songs from all these services, and create customized playlists, which can then be saved. All you need to do is log in with your Facebook account, after which you will be able to access music from all the various sources. To start off, enter a song or artist name in the search bar and find music on YouTube, SoundCloud or your Local System. As you type an artist/song’s name, a drop-down menu displays a list of results. Select the track you were looking for, and it will automatically be played and added to the playlist at the bottom of the page.

You will find three basic options displayed inside the search bar, Search In YouTube, Search On Your PC and Search In SoundCloud. To start off, select an option and enter a song or artist name. As you do this a drop-down menu will instantly display search results. Simply select the track you were looking for and it will instantly be played and added to the playlist. When you select songs, they are added to the playlist and are played in the same order. Two buttons are displayed to the right hand-side of the playlist, these are Save Playlist and Open Playlist. Once you’ve created a playlist with songs from YouTube, SoundCloud, Aupeo and your PC, click Save Playlist and enjoy it the next time you login.

The video for the song is displayed at the center of the page. For now, you wont be able to change the size of the video player, but you can easily change and play/pause the songs from the controls displayed at the bottom of the playlist. Furthermore, the controls let you change the volume and fast forward a song. Users can also access their music on the local system by clicking the Local Music option in the left panel and selecting a folder. Clicking the YouTube button in the left panel opens YouTube in a new window. Other supported services include SoundCloud and Aupeo. Navegas is currently working on adding new music services, so keep an eye on it!

Similarly select the Search On PC option and enter a song or artist name. Results are instantly retrieved and you will be able to play your desired songs.

The basis of every social networking service is sharing. We share everything with the world and our friends, including images, videos, articles, our own thoughts etc, and comment on things shared by others. Whether this change in the way we interact is for the better or for worse is a debatable topic, because on one hand, people have begun sharing a lot more than they used to, but on the other, they now meet a lot less than they used to. PhotoPixar is an application for Windows that lets you create video slideshows of photo albums in minutes with effects, audio and captions.

Creating albums with PhotoPixar is a three step process. In the first step, you are required to import the images that you want to include in the album. Either navigate to them from the Add photos button, or just drag and drop them onto the interface.

Once all images are added, select Add Templates from the left side to add a background and effects to images. The application provides you with various effects, such as leaves, bubbles, dragonflies, butterflies etc, and a selection of backgrounds and frames. Backgrounds and Effects and be changed from the bar at the right side. If you want to include a background track to the video slideshow, select one by clicking Add Music.

Once you are satisfied with the background and effect, choose Publish Album from the left side, and click Save to finish the process. Select Upload to upload the album on PhotoPixar’s (accessible from a link) server, or click the Facebook icon to share it with your friends.

Creating albums with PhotoPixar is really easy, and and it doesn’t take more than 1 minute to create an album if you don’t waste a lot of time choosing the background and effects.  PhotoPixar has a memory footprint of 103 MB, and works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

The concept of aggregating your social network feeds, and posting to all of them from a single platform is not new to Android. Seesmic, TweetDeck, Social Jogger 2, Sendible, ZeroPC Cloud Navigator and ChannelCaster are just a few examples of apps based on said concept. However, what we hadn’t seen so far was an app that combines your social media feeds with your call log until we came across StreamLife. With StreamLife, you get posts and notifications from your Facebook and Twitter accounts, and detailed history of all your phone calls displayed on a single screen. In addition, you can post to both social networks from within the app or through its nifty homescreen widget.  More to follow.

When launched, StreamLife prompts you to associate required accounts with the app, and select the default update interval (in minutes). From the same screen, you can enable/disable app notifications.

Once past that, you’re taken to the app’s homescreen, which presents all content from the linked accounts. If you only want to view posts from Facebook or Twitter, just your notifications or call history, simply swipe left or right across the screen. Tapping a post lets you explore, like, comment on, and reply (Twitter) to it from within the app.

Tapping the note icon at the top takes you to the app’s messaging interface from where you can compose a new status update, attach an image, and post it to your Facebook and Twitter account simultaneously. Provided you want to post a message to your Facebook Wall, the app also lets you pick the desired groups with which you wish to share the post.

The app’s homescreen widget lets you easily post a new status message, or take a look at your recent posts right from the homescreen.

All in all, a great concept that could get even better if support for viewing text messages within the collective feed is added to the mix as well; a prospect not too far away from being realized, it seems.

From the team behind  renowned desktop, web and mobile social network (Facebook and Twitter) aggregator, Seesmic, comes Seesmic Ping – an Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 app that lets you schedule updates for multiple social networks to a date and time of your choice. The app lets you attach images and URLs with each post, save posts to drafts, or schedule them to be published from as many different social media accounts as required. First up, you must log in to the app with a valid Seesmic ID. Don’t have one? You can sign up for a new account from within the app for free. From the screen that follows, associate all the required social media accounts with the app. You can add multiple accounts for each social network.

Once all accounts have been set up, you’re taken to the app’s main interface from where you can compose a new post, attach the required URL or image with it, and schedule it. The social network icons at the bottom-left of the screen display the services on which the post will be shared. The digit displayed on each icon indicates the number of accounts selected for a particular service. To manage all the accounts and services, tap the profile icon at the top of the screen. From the accounts screen, you can add a new account by tapping Menu > Add.

Once you’ve composed your message, schedule it by tapping the clock icon at the bottom. From within the screen that follows, select the month, date and time (in splits of five minutes), and hit the envelope icon at the top-right of screen to save the message to the pending list, from where it will automatically be posted to the selected networks when the scheduled time arrives (that is, if you’re connected to the internet at said time).

The app keeps you apprised of sent messages via status bar notifications.

Tapping Menu lets you access the app’s Settings screen from where you can select the default size for image attachments. From the same menu, you can opt to save the current post to drafts, or Log out of the app. To check a detailed log of all Pending, and sent messages, as well as those saved to Drafts, tap the More/Menu button at the bottom-right of the app’s post composition screen.

Timeline Movie Maker allows you to create a gorgeous short movie from your Facebook photos and activity. To create a movie, simply click the Make Your Movie button. Your movie will be created in only a few minutes, after which it will be played automatically. You will be able to hear a music track and watch the a video montage of your Facebook timeline streams. Once the movie has been created, you can customize it by changing the tracks and replacing photos. Once done with the changes, click Remake Your Movie.

To start off, simply click the Make Your Movie button. An app permission window will be displayed. Click the Log in with Facebook button, and the app will automatically start creating your movie.

As the movie is created, you will be able to see the progress bar and the photos that the app uses.

Timeline Movie Maker automatically parses your Timeline profile to create a 55-second movie from all events and memories. Shortly thereafter, the video will start playing, showing you photographs and videos from your Timeline.

During our testing, the app had a few issues, in that it did not work on Firefox and Internet Explorer. Timeline Movie Maker is a fun web application that highlights the special moments of your life, and definitely deserves a try.

The whole point of jailbreaking and having a Cydia store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is to gain the ability to customize different areas of iOS. From time to time, the developers over at the jailbreak store keep coming up with ways to tweak not only stock iOS apps, but even a few third party ones as well. Customize Facebook, as the name suggests, is a jailbreak tweak which will let you revamp the Facebook app for iOS. Not only does it come with options to add a lot of new animations to the app, using it, you also get to tinker with a lot of other aspects of Facebook, to give the app a completely new look.

Customize Facebook is available in the ModMyi repo of the Cydia store, and you can download it for free. Once installed, the tweak will add its sizable menu in the Extensions tab, located within the Settings app. There are so many customizing options offered by the tweak that it will take you some time to figure out what each option exactly does. There are as many as 15 animations listed in the tweak. Against each animation option there is the toggle button, although it would have been more useful if there was some explanation regarding what turning it on will do.

Once you move past the animations, the real customizing options begin. You can enable or disable the Pull to refresh option in the Facebook app, and there are two separate toggles for that. Similar options exist for turning off the bottom bar in the app. The really cool thing about Customize Facebook is its ability to customize the search box size, and there is a slider provided to adjust that. The same holds true for text box, which will change the text area wherever it appears in the app.

When changes are applied, you might have to remove the Facebook app from the App Switcher tray and then restart it, so that the changes made by the tweak can take effect. The options which require the user to restart the app are listed in the options menu. Even though most of the options listed by Customize Facebook are universal, some won’t work with the iPad, and a list of such options is provided in the Settings menu as well.

Customize Facebook can use a few improvements, like more explanation regarding the animations, but overall, it is really worth a download, especially given that it won’t cost you anything at all.

We have previously brought you some wallpaper rotating applications for Ubuntu, including Desktop Drapes and Desktop Nova. This time, we have an Ubuntu gadget that rotates images within a photo frame on your desktop and in full screen mode (like a screen saver). Gnome Photo Frame is a desktop picture frame that enables rotating images from sources, such as a local folder, F-Spot database, Shotwell database, Facebook, Flickr, Picasa Web Albums, Tumblr, Haikyo Clock and an RSS Feed.

Gnome Photo frame can be downloaded and installed via the Deb packages (download link at the end of this post). Once installed, Gnome Photo Frame can be launched in both the Unity desktop environment, or the Gnome desktop. This gadget is quite scalable, and image size and other attributes can be easily adjusted to suit the needs of the user. You can open the frame image (in your default browser), view recent images, head over to the next image, enable full screen mode (ESC to exit), lock photo frame position, access Preferences and quit the frame, via right-click context menu. As you might have guessed from the Fix Photo Frame option, the gadget can be easily dragged across the desktop and placed anywhere (unless locked).

The General tab (in Preferences) provides options to change the time interval for picture rotation within the frame, set a maximum display size (height and width), enable visibility on visible workspace. and to auto start Gnome Photo Frame with system startup. You can specify image sources from the Plugins tab. Here, you can select a local folder, or authenticate an online account to import album images from Facebook, Flickr, Picasa, Tumblr, etc. Similarly, the Photos tab enables users to  manually add a new source (e.g., an RSS Feed). It must be noted that all online accounts will have to be authenticated, and access will have to be allowed to the Gnome Photo Frame application for the images to become available to the desktop frame.

During testing, we found Gnome Photo Frame to run quite seamlessly, without any lags or functionality issues. It also detected the source images quite easily; however, it seems that it is impossible to specify any sequence for the images, as they seem to appear randomly from the selected source(s). Perhaps the developer can provide some kind of image sorting options to allow users to define an image rotation sequence, in upcoming versions of the application.

Bored of Facebook’s plain white look and same old chat sounds? Beautify FB, a Chrome extension, gives Facebook a new look and feel, which is nicer to look at. It lets you customize the design by changing the background color or adding a background image, rounded corners for the Newsfeed and other content. You can add transparency to the sidebars, so that the background image is more visible. Change the chat sounds, hide sidebars and add many other enhancements, such as keyboard shortcuts and an emoticon bar in every chat window. The extension also lets you add the Beautify FB Options to the main menu, right next to the Home option.

After you’ve added different tweaks and enhancements, you will notice a number of changes in Facebook’s layout and interface.

You will find four main tabs in the Beautify FB Options, namely Main Settings, Style Settings, Tweaks and Enhancements and Version History. The Main Settings allow you to place Options Menu in Account and Main menu. You can also enable the Reload Facebook after saving changes option, so that every time you make a change, Facebook automatically reloads and you can see how it looks.

Next, you will find Background Options and Transparency & Position settings. Select the standard Facebook background, add a gradient by selecting colors from the color picker displayed to the right hand-side, select solid, or enter an image URL to fully customize Facebook’s background. By default, the extension has its own image URL as well, and you can use the same if you want. Change the transparency and position of the main content, menu bar, left and right sidebar.

Activate Audio Notifications and select a sound type. You may also add multiple enhancements, such as Add Logout to Menu, Keyboard shortcuts, Emoticon Bar in every chat window and more. It is also possible to hide sidebar elements, like Requests, Pokes, Events and More. During testing, I was unable to hide the pokes, probably due to some bug.

iReader, a Firefox add-on, allows you to view news stories and articles in a clean and clutter-free interface. When you hover your mouse over the article, the iReader toolbar appears at the bottom of the page with multiple options. Using this toolbar, you can zoom in and out of the page, print the article out, or email it. The zooming option can be great for people who want to read articles in larger fonts. Furthermore, the Twitter and Facebook buttons allow you to share the article with others, and clicking the image icon lets you to hide/unhide images in articles. The settings button lets you access iReader options.

iReader Options come with two categories, Reader and Article Style. The Reader category lets users control the level of Background Opacity, set a Hotkey to enable iReader, enable Mail Articles from Gmail, Smooth Scroll and Enable Animation options. The Article Style category consists of Font Family, Article width and Article Margin Options. You can change these settings by selecting an option from the drop-down menus. Also, enable or disable Justify Text, depending on your preferences. Once done, click Ok, and you’re good to go.

The crowd-favorite web-based social photo aggregator Pixable needs no long introduction. The service is popularly known for its elegant interface, and the way in which it gathers and displays all photos on your Facebook Wall and Twitter timeline. While the official Pixable client for iOS has been around in the iTunes App Store for quite some time, an alpha build of its Android variant has just surfaced on the Android Market. Unlike its iOS variant, which supports displaying all your photos as well as videos from both social networks, the Android client of Pixable currently only shows Facebook photos. On the whole, the app follows the same conventional style of ranking, organizing and displaying your photos, for which Pixable is adored by users world over.

Before you can start exploring Facebook photos via Pixable, you need to authorize the app to access your Facebook account. Once past that, you’re taken to the app’s main interface that is split into three main tabs, namely My Feeds, Friends and Everyone.

My Feeds is where you can find all photos from Facebook organized under several categories. It displays all the recent and popular photos, as well as images that you’ve liked or commented on.

From the Friends tab, you can start searching for and following your Facebook friends. Tapping a friend’s name displays all photos uploaded by him/her.

Pixable is not all about checking out photos that have you or your friends tagged. Tapping the Everyone tab lets you view the most popular public images on Facebook. For each photo, the app displays a description (if the uploader wrote one, that is), comments and tags, along with the option to share it over the web.

While Pixable is a welcome addition to the Market, the app, in its current (alpha) form, seems to be a tad laggy and slow to respond, especially while switching between various screens. Let’s hope Pixable’s final build matches the quality of its iOS counterpart. Till then, you might want to try recently reviewed PicsIn Viewer for a spin. The app works much like Pixable but is, as of now, way ahead in terms of features and aggregates photos from almost all popular cloud services and social networks.

Wasting too much time on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter? Social Lite is an application which makes it possible to manage Facebook, Twitter and Gmail accounts within a compact, iOS-style interface. Strimz is a Facebook app that, apart from letting you broadcast/stream live video to your Facebook Wall, also records each streaming session, allowing you to replay it later. Although not all that flashy or beefed up with features, Strimz certainly brings a rather fresh idea to the table. The app works in the same way as recently reviewed VTweeIT for Android that allows users to broadcast live video on its very own website, but the big difference here is that Strimz streams videos to the most popular social network on the web. The app is ideal for whenever you’re at an event (a concert or a birthday bash, for instance) and want to share a live view of the proceedings with Facebook friends who couldn’t make it.

In order to start using Strimz on your device, you need to authorize it to access your Facebook account. Once you’re past that, the app takes you to its homescreen from where you can begin streaming by either tapping CLICK TO START or the Go Live button. To modify video settings, tap on the little tools icon in the top-left corner of the app’s screen. This screen lets you adjust the Resolution, FPS  (Frames per second) and Quality of video, or switch between Front and Back camera.

You can stream videos for as long as you wish. As mentioned earlier, each video that you stream is recorded and remains saved as a post on your Facebook Wall even after you tap the Stop button.

So far, Android devs have been able to employ the concept of face recognition to tag photos uploaded to social media or as an unlocking mechanism for various facets of the OS. The app utilizes face recognition to identify your Facebook friends and lets you keep a record of your meetings with them. Not only can remembAR maintain a record of the time and number of meetings, it can also be set to post them to your Facebook Wall.

Instead of typing status updates about meetups with your Facebook friends, you can simply launch the app, and scan a friend’s face to record the time and date of your meeting.

But how does remembAR know whether the person in your camera’s viewfinder is one of your Facebook friends? Well, for that, you’ll first need to authorize the app to access your Facebook account. Once that is done, each time you scan a face, the app will try to match it with one of your Facebook friends’ photos, and display relevant suggestions in the top-right corner of the screen. If the face is recognized successfully, all you need to do is tap the check button to save a record of your meeting, and post it to Facebook. The latter option can be disabled from the app’s settings screen.

In case the app displays incorrect suggestions, you can hit the cross button beside each to remove them from the screen. While scanning, you can also activate your device’s flashlight by tapping Menu > FLASH.

The icon in the middle of the app’s homescreen can be tapped to view all recorded instances of your meetings with friends. To delete a record, long-press on it and tap delete.

RemembAR has potential to take the face recognition concept to greater heights. Expanding the pool of social network services, that is, adding Google+ to the mix would certainly fetch the app a wider fanbase, as would adding the option to identify and befriend people with public profiles on Facebook or other social media.

There are countless tweaks available at the Cydia store for jailbroken iOS devices. Some are really useful, while others are there to just make up the numbers. FBspot is a tweak which falls somewhere in between the two categories. The functionality it offers is, admittedly, pretty minor, but many iPhone users who like Facebook might find the tweak really useful. Fbspot lets you type commands in the Spotlight search area of your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and those commands will take you straight to the desired area of your Facebook account. Confused? Read on for details.

Before you get too excited though, hear this; the tweak only recognizes commands which have been added by the developer. There is an option to perform custom commands, but it’s unclear how you define your own commands, or if they are even supported by Fbspot. But to be fair to the tweak, the list of commands already incorporated by it cover pretty much all the aspects of Facebook which are mostly used by everyone. Using Fbspot is easy. Just install the tweak, which is free by the way, go to your device’s Spotlight area, and key in one of the preloaded commands in the search box. But before you do that, make sure that you have the official Facebook app installed on your iPhone and you are logged in to your account. Following is the list of commands recognized by Fbspot:

The official Facebook client for Android has undergone a massive change in terms of interface as well as features with its latest update. To put it simply, the updated Facebook client for Android resembles the looks and, in many ways, functionality of its iPhone counterpart. The UI has received a complete overhaul, with all your friend requests, messages and notifications arranged at the top as separate buttons that can be tapped to reveal their contents within a bubble. The app now also lets you search for, access and filter all the required Facebook content in a much more convenient manner, explore photos much faster, view your friends’ tags on them and access your friends lists and subscriptions. Last but not the least, the update adds support for push notifications and the Timeline feature, that is, if you have it enabled for your account).

One of the best things about the new UI is the left sidebar that can be reveal by tapping the More/Menu button in the top-left corner of the screen. The left sidebar provides you access to the search bar and all major sections of the social network from almost anywhere in the app.

The updated client not only renders photos much faster but also displays tags included with them (if any). You can now also remove posts from your Facebook profile page. Anything that you’ve Liked or Recommended on a webpage or posts that have you tagged can be instantly be removed from your Wall with a swipe. If you find a post on your profile that you wish to remove, swipe across it from right to left (preferably from the top of the plus button). It might take more than just a few tries to get it right the first time, but when you do, you’ll see a Remove button appear on top of the post. Tapping the button will remove the post from your profile page.

Snipreel, is a web app lets you modify YouTube videos, to quickly create highlight reels and snip the best parts of a video. This app lets you take any YouTube video and cut it into different parts which are then patched together automatically. Furthermore, Snipreel allows users to share their videos on popular social networks and also copy the URL links for the videos. Simply paste a YouTube URL, click the snip button when you find something interesting, and then click it again when you want that part to end.

Just paste the YouTube URL link to start creating your very own reel. Whenever you find an interesting part, click the snip button and once that part ends click the button again. What you end up with, is a highlight reel with different parts, limited to 60 seconds. You can then copy the URL link or share it on popular sharing networks, such as, Facebook and Twitter. The service is still in Alpha which is why you can create a video only 59 seconds long. Once the video has been created, you can go back and edit it.

The service also has a Chrome extension that embeds the service’s controls right in to the YouTube interface. It does not work for videos that have restricted embedding and may cause a slight delay before a video start playing.

If you thought NFC (Near Field Communication) was just a means for wireless monetary transactions, Add Friend for Android is bound to open your mind to a plethora of possibilities. This simple yet inspiring free app employs NFC to lets two users become friends on Facebook simply by touching the backs of their phones. Being one of the few NFC-based mobile apps out there, and the only one (we’ve come across) that links the technology with the world’s leading social network, the app is a welcome addition to the Android Market. Using the app is as simple as it sounds. It only has one prerequisite – the official Facebook client for Android.  Ensure that you and your friend have said client installed and NFC enabled (Settings > Wireless & Networks for Android 2.3.x and Settings > More in Android 4.x), launch Add Friend on your device, have your friend launch the app on his/hers, touch the backs of both devices together, and weight for slightly over a second. This should launch the official Facebook client, taking you straight to your friend’s profile page, wherefrom you can befriend him/her by hitting the Add Friend button.

If the app doesn’t find the Facebook client, it automatically launches Market and takes you to its download page. If it does, it requests authorization to your account. Every time you use the app to add a friend, it posts an alert to your Wall.

Add Friend may not be of much use as of now, but as the number of NFC-capable Android devices increases, the app, along with possible upcoming Twitter and Google+ variants, might grow to become a must-have accessory for social media enthusiasts.
