The Nexus S 4G gets ICS 4.0.4. Where the Nexus S quickly received its due share of the ICS goodness, the Nexus S 4G was left without something official coming out for the device. However, that has changed with the leak of an official Android 4.0.4, yes, not 4.0.3 but 4.0.4 for the Nexus S 4G. The leak comes to us courtesy of XDA-Developers forum member mrxkills who had earlier released the files that could be flashed via ODIN, and now thanks to Swap Goblin, there is now a CWM flashable zip file availabel as well, making it much easier for users to install this firmware on their device. If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would know that Koush has been working on a touch based ClockworkMod recovery for our Android devices. Touch based recoveries are becoming more and more demanded since a few have already been launched in the Android world. However, to this date, a lot of users remain committed to the ClockworkMod recovery. The root method comes in from XDA-Developers forum member CarpeNoctem along with lambgx02 who provided the Carrier IQ free kernel (by Rogers) and the insecure kernel and the Rogers rooted ROM, and ardatdat who provided the rooted ROM and the overclocked kernel. Samsung Galaxy Tab Gets ICS Based CM9 ROM [Download]

Proud owner of the original Samsung Galaxy Tab but still running Android 2.3 Gingerbread on it? Been waiting to get news of an update to Andriod 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for your device? While Samsung didn't even bring Android 3.0 Honeycomb to the original Galaxy Tab, it now has an ICS ROM available, courtesy the CyanogenMod team. This AOSP ICS ROM, based on the CyanogenMod 9 project, comes in from the team trying to get CM9 working flawlessly on the Galaxy Tab. The ROM so far is far from perfect, as it is in fact a work in progress and certainly not meant as a daily driver, but that’s understandable. Hopefully, this will all change soon enough. Touch based custom recoveries are all the hype these days. The Acer Iconia A500, just made the list of a handful of Android devices that had the privelege of getting a touch based recovery. This comes in from XDA-Developers forum member drellisidee who has built this from the Amon Ra recovery source. Yup, this is not your ClockworkMod recovery, but the equally popular Amon Ra. Further credits also go to kjy2010 for releasing a flashable zip file for those already running a custom recovery on their device. The Droid Razr is on a roll here with Ice Cream Sandwich. It just recently received a an ICS leak found to be running with the Moto Blur UI followed by an AOSP ROM based on the CM9 by RootzWiki forum member dhacker29. The Galaxy S II gets MIUI ICS! While the device and its users eagerly wait for an official ICS release by Samsung, users hopes are also pinned on ROMs like CM9 and MIUI v4 ICS. Things seem to moving at a very steady pace and while experimental builds of CM9 are available along with leaked Samsung ICS based ROMs, MIUI was nowhere to be seen. Based on Android 4.0.3, the ROM is an effort of team ICSSGS, who began work on this ROM nearly 2 months back. The ROM is so far one of the most stable builds you can find for your Galaxy S device, and according to the developers, “We did not add any modifications unless they were absolutely required to make it work correctly.” Truly, the SGS II stands in awe right now as the predecessor maintains the lead when it comes to ICS ports and their stability.

Flash Recovery & Kernel Images On Android While Booted

A few select HTC and Samsung Android phones have just received an app that lets you flash kernel and recovery images straight from within the Android OS (while booted). The app, called Flash Image GUI, comes to us from XDA-Developers forum member joeykrim, and is basically a GUI interface for the Linux binary. The app can flash kernels, logos, and recoveries on the Samsung Moment, Intercept and Acclaim. Devices like the Samsung Epic however can only flash the kernels (zImage). The HTC Amaze 4G, EVO 3D CDMA & GSM, EVO, EVO Shift, Nexus S / Nexus S 4G and the LG Optimus get to flash kernels (anykernel & boot.img) and recoveries (zip or image files). Read More

The Droid X2 gets CM7! Ok so the world is moving on to bigger things, ICS and ICS based CM9 and CM7 is more of an old news today. The Original Droid however just received a port of CM9 but this port of CM7 to the Droid X2 is actually huge, as it has now opened up the possibilities of further AOSP ports and ROM development for the device where ICS based ROMs are now very much a possibility. This CM7 ROM is based on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and is the Droid’s first taste of a completely Blur free ROM.
