The heavens have always held a certain charm for human beings. Star Rover is an iPad app that will complement your stargazing experience. This app, based on augmented reality, lets its users point their iPad to the heavens, and identifies whatever constellation, star or planet they are looking at.  

When launched, Star Rover automatically detects your current location, and maps out the skies according to it. There are seven modes on offer by the app. You can switch between these modes by tapping their respective icons in the right-side bar.

In compass mode, which is the section dealing primarily with the augmented reality view, you can take the iPad out of your room, and point it at the sky (now, you may look a bit stupid doing that, but the results are worth it). Depending upon the orientation of your tablet, Sky Rover will adjust its own view accordingly, displaying whatever heavenly objects come within the direction the tablet is facing, along with their nametags and other information. Tap a displayed star, nebula or planet to view detailed info on the left side of the screen.

If you want to view the stars according to another location or time of  day, tap the time or location buttons. The fourth button from top displays a more realistic view of the sky underneath the horizon. To switch back to night mode, press the cloud button once again.

To assist you in identifying stars and planets, Star Rover allows you to toggle on a grid overlay, labels & patterns for constellations, and planetary names. You can use the Browsing Assistant if you are not sure what kind of music would go well with your clip, or there is the option to go for any of the Popular Songs. The Browsing Assistant will have you choose the desired music’s tempo, genre and mood, and based on your selection, a suitable collection of songs will be suggested. You can preview each music clip before applying it to your selected video.

Once you have done all that, YouTube Producer will let you view the end result, which you can then Upload to YouTube. Before you publish the video, you will need to add the appropriate tags and category for the clip. Once the upload is complete, you can share the video over Facebook, Twitter and via email.

Pinching the screen will let you choose focus and exposure values of the camera. Instead of gestures, you can also use the camera button in TapShot to shoot a photo any time you want.

If you think that TapShot is a bit limited, owing to the fact that you will have to learn all the gestures which have been defined by the developer, think again. The app offers pretty extensive customization, and you can make changes to both the interface and gestures. There are 4 gestures each for swiping and taps, and the app lets its users choose what they want to do on a particular gesture. You can also configure the actions which are carried out on multi-touch and whenever a face is detected by TapShot. In the Customize Interface menu, you get to personalize just about any area of the app, including toggling gridlines, making changes to buttons, and even changing the way tap/ swipe hints are displayed while in the camera window.

It is a well-known fact that a vast majority of photos shared across various online services originate from the camera in some iOS device, but when it comes to recording videos with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, the camera is just as useful. Unfortunately, there aren’t as many apps for video editing as there are for photos, and that’s what makes TimeFreeze a really interesting addition to the App Store. The app lets its users add background music to their videos, and you can also make your footage looking like a snippet from the Matrix, by adding the slow motion effect to any area of the clip. The app is really easy to use, and guides you through each step of its usage in a comprehensive manner. The first thing you need to do to use TimeFreeze is to import a raw video clip to it. You can choose any video stored in the Camera Roll, or there is the option to shoot a video from within the app and then process it. If you want, you can also save the unprocessed (raw) clip to the Camera Roll, so that it remains possible to compare the changes the clip goes through.

When you are ready, hit the Next button in the top right. This brings up the the Slow motion speed menu. Here you will have to choose the value by which the chosen frames will be slowed down. The slider is calibrated in terms of seconds, and the higher this value, the slower the frames will be. If you want to accentuate the slow motion effect even more, toggle on the Double speed on rest option, which will make the slowed down portion of the video last even longer. The same menu has the option to choose the quality of the processed clip, and choosing a higher quality will increase the processing time quite a bit. When you hit the Next button on this menu, you are taken to the Slow motion range screen, asking you to define 2 frames which will act as starting and ending points for the slowed down portion of the video clip.

TimeFreeze currently has just 4 background music clips, and you can select the most suitable one for your video in the Sound menu. This menu is also useful if you want to omit the original audio of the video clip. By toggling on Slow motion effect, you can get the fuzzy look when the clip’s view shifts between slow motion and normal speed. After everything is done, TimeFreeze will take a few minutes to process the clip, and after that you can Play or save (to Camera Roll) the clip. The sharing option offered by the app include Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

One limitation of TimeFreeze, which makes this otherwise brilliant app a little restricted, is the maximum output resolution currently standing at VGA only. While it may have been more than enough for smartphones in general, taking into account the iPhone 4S’ capable HD camcorder and A5 processor, the developer may benefit from handing over the resolution control to users, rather than putting cap on it.

Almost every game you play on your iOS device has some sort of scoring system, designed to motivate users to get ahead of their friends. Overachiever is a new tweak that lets you force-unlock all the achievements of any Game Center-supported game you have on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

True, getting Game Center achievements via this tweak kills the purpose of playing the associated games, but installing Overachiever on your iDevice gives you a choice. It is entirely up to you when, and for which game, you want to use it.

Once installed, Overachiever can be used from within Extensions section of the Settings app. The Overachiever menu, you will see all games  come with Game Center integration. By default, the tweak is toggled off for all games, and before you turn it on, be warned that all the achievements will be unlocked as soon as you start the game the next time, and are logged in to Game Center. This action is irreversible, and the achievements can never be relocked, even if you uninstall Overachiever.

The tweak will notify you through a push notification as soon as the achievements are unlocked. Later is a simple reminders app, but the efficient and quick way in which it works is what makes it stand out from other apps of its kind, and for that, it is certainly worth a download.

Sketch Me is one such app, the genre, in this case, being sketch effects. The app has seven variations of the hand-drawn effect, and in addition to that, lets you doodle over your photos, and add annotations in colors of your choice.

The app starts up with a short tutorial, showcasing all the effects it has to offer, and the method to apply them to your photos. The first step is to import the image into the app’s editor, and that can be done by tapping the camera button in the top-left corner. You can shoot a photo from within the app, or there is the option to load one from the Camera Roll. Once an image has been loaded, the default sketch effect will automatically be applied to it. You can choose a background texture for added effect. There are three textures available in the app for free; to unlock the others, you will have to make an in-app purchase worth $1.99. If you are not satisfied with the sketched version of your photo, swipe to the right to preview other effects. If you want, you can customize the filters by going to the Settings menu and changing the values of Blur Radius and Effect Strength.

Apart from letting you add the sketch effect to your photos, Sketch Me also lets you draw over your images from within the paint menu. The brush strength can be adjusted by using the icon at the bottom-right, while colors can be chosen from the button in the center of the bottom bar. Five colors are available by default, and the rest are unlocked by the aforementioned in-app purchase.

From the team behind  renowned desktop, web and mobile social network (Facebook and Twitter) aggregator, Seesmic, comes Seesmic Ping – an Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 app that lets you schedule updates for multiple social networks to a date and time of your choice. The app lets you attach images and URLs with each post, save posts to drafts, or schedule them to be published from as many different social media accounts as required. First up, you must log in to the app with a valid Seesmic ID. Don’t have one? You can sign up for a new account from within the app for free. From the screen that follows, associate all the required social media accounts with the app. You can add multiple accounts for each social network.

Once all accounts have been set up, you’re taken to the app’s main interface from where you can compose a new post, attach the required URL or image with it, and schedule it. The social network icons at the bottom-left of the screen display the services on which the post will be shared. The digit displayed on each icon indicates the number of accounts selected for a particular service. To manage all the accounts and services, tap the profile icon at the top of the screen. From the accounts screen, you can add a new account by tapping Menu > Add.

Once you’ve composed your message, schedule it by tapping the clock icon at the bottom. From within the screen that follows, select the month, date and time (in splits of five minutes), and hit the envelope icon at the top-right of screen to save the message to the pending list, from where it will automatically be posted to the selected networks when the scheduled time arrives (that is, if you’re connected to the internet at said time).

The app keeps you apprised of sent messages via status bar notifications.

Tapping Menu lets you access the app’s Settings screen from where you can select the default size for image attachments. From the same menu, you can opt to save the current post to drafts, or Log out of the app. To check a detailed log of all Pending, and sent messages, as well as those saved to Drafts, tap the More/Menu button at the bottom-right of the app’s post composition screen.

The same approach will be applied to writing and taking notes. However, many people might think that it is convenient to scribble on a paper rather than typing on your iPhone when you have to write in a hurry. On the other hand, handwritten notes can prove to illegible at a later time, or, depending on your hand writing, for others. If you own an iOS device, MyScript Memo might be the perfect solution to the problem presented above. It is an app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch that will let you create handwritten notes, and then convert them to digital text.

When you have installed the app to your iDevice and launch it for the first time, you will be taken to the notes page straightaway. Start scribbling, and you can write or make a sketch. If you make a mistake, choose the eraser from the top bar. To change color of the pen, or its thickness, long press the pen icon. If you have scribbled some text on the notes page, and want to export just a part of it, choose the lasso tool. After you have made the selection of the area of the note, you can export that snippet as a picture, or convert it to digital text. Keep it in mind that even after the conversion, you won’t be able to copy or share the text, as that can be done only after upgrading to the pro version of MyScript Memo, costing $2.99.

If you want to export the full note, there is the star button for that, located in the top right corner. Tapping it will bring up three options, Export as text, Export as image and Export as .notes file. The third option will generate a file readable through MyScript Memo. To revert any change, you can hit the undo button in the top menu.

Another useful feature of the app is image import, and you can annotate an image after its has been added to the note. The drawing to text conversion is pretty good (given that your handwriting is better than mine –  Ed’s note: mine was!), and MyScript recognizes more than 30 languages. You can choose the language by going to the Settings menu in the app. There are other options available there as well, like changing notes’ backgrounds and ink texture.

MyScript Memo is a free app, and with its Facebook, Twitter and Evernote integration, is definitely worth a try.

When you have decided upon the page style, the next step is to choose a pen, and JotStudio has quite a variety of those on offer. You can use the broad-tipped marker, or a felt tip pen, among many others. The app also allows you to choose a color for the pen by tapping the pen icon. If you want more colors than the collection listed at first sight, hold your finger over a color, and all its variants in the pallete will appear.

In addition to creating sketches and notes from scratch, you can use JotStudio to import images and scribble notes over them. To import, you have to hit the camera button present at the left of your screen. You can save your work as an image, or share it with others straightaway.

iOS sure has a lot of apps designed to let users take notes, but not many of them are focused exclusively on iPad. The typing page is designed to let users pay complete attention to the task at hand, and is not cluttered with too many distracting options. When you are done adding text to the current page, you can create a new one by navigating back to the homepage and making a new entry.

If you want, you can easily reorder or delete individual pages from the Manage Entries menu. The feature which makes Meta Notebook really useful is its ability to let users print the created document conveniently, via Air Print. That option is available in the sharing menu, and from there, you can also send the notebook in an email. A finished notebook, if it has more than one pages, lets you flip through it by turning the pages like a real book, which is very well suited for the iPad.

This is due to the fact that the PDF exported by Messages2PDF does not list the name of the message’s receiver or sender, and if you choose to export multiple threads in one file, you wont be able to tell that to which conversation does an individual text belong.

To select any thread, just tap the contact name displayed in the list. Once you have selected the desired conversations, tap the Go On button in the top right corner of the screen. The next screen just has one big button, labeled Generate PDF. The app will get your text file ready, and a draft will appear in your email. You can add recipients, CC & BCC in the mail, along with any text you might want to add. Once the mail has been sent, the PDF file attached with it will contain the contents of the thread’s messages, along with the timestamps.

Messages2PDF presents a neat solution to a very common problem, and is definitely worth the price.

iOS has a lot of note-taking apps, and even the stock Notes app is quite decent, but there some apps which show how things can be done a little differently in a field which is pretty congested. Meernotes is one such app, and its retro looks and the way of creating notes, which look like real books, have made it a favorite among iPhone users. Not only that, the app goes beyond mere looks, and comes with some really good features, like Dropbox sync and a few pretty cool themes which can be applied to your Meernotes books.

The app starts off with a rather lengthy written tutorial, but it is essential, as Meernotes has a lot of features, and it might take some time to learn about them all on your own. When you are done reading the tutorial, you have two options. You can edit the notebook in which the tutorial is shown, or add a new one by swiping upwards and tapping the get a new notebook button.

There are 4 templates available for books, which basically provide background themes for your notes. In addition to the texture, you also have to choose the writing style of your book, and the provided options are Handwritten, Type-Set and Type & Worn. Once you have done all that, you can begin adding pages to your notebook. The keyboard in Meernotes has a special hide button added at the top of it, so you can instantaneously preview your complete note. You can add a title or date to the page by tapping the top bar.

A useful concept Meernotes brings to the mix is the addition of tabs to notebooks. A tab is used anywhere in a notebook to differentiate between chapters, and you can apply any of the 6 provided themes to a tab. These themes will appear separately from the overall theme of the page. Meernotes comes with some pretty slick sharing options, which ensure that your work does not stay stagnant within your iPhone or iPod touch. In addition to the option of sending your notes to anyone via email, Meernotes also allows automatic syncing with Dropbox. For that, you will have to go to the Settings menu, and link your Dropbox account with the app.

Gone are the days when you had to rely upon paper copies of documents to put your signatures on them. Now, there are many legally acceptable ways of signing documents digitally, like Adobe Echo Sign for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The app has been around for quite a while in the App Store, but with its latest update, you can even link your Facebook account with the app, letting you sign and share your documents with complete ease.

If you don’t know how to use EasySign, there are two ways of learning all about it; you can go for the video tutorial available in the app, or there is the live demo which showcases each step of app usage pretty comprehensively. You get to define your signature during the tutorial too, although it is possible to do so later if you skip the demoes. The creation of signatures is highly customizable, with the option to choose its size, color and orientation. If you want, you can also choose an existing image as your signature from Camera Roll. The homepage lists options to sign in to the app, or if you don’t have an EasySign account, you can easily create a new one using your email ID, or simply by linking your Facebook account to the service. Signing up with Facebook will import your personal information to EasySign, which means you can use your credentials more efficiently on documents.

On the homepage of the app you get to see the number of credits you have got left. You need credits to sign documents, and credits can be bought via in-app purchases, while another way to earn them is by suggesting EasySign to your friends. To put your signature on a document, you have to import it to EasySign first. Doing so is easy, and a number of sources are listed from which the document can be imported. The sources include email, Dropbox, Box.net or you can add a document which is already in your device.

To add your signature to the imported doc,  tap the pen icon in the top right corner, which will bring up a number of options. Using those options you can add, not only signatures, but a date, your name, initials and just about anything you might want to put on a doc. The formats of all those entities can be customized by going to the Settings menu. In that menu you can add your Personal Details as well, given that you did not sign up via Facebook.

Once you are done making changes to a document, and hit Finish, EasySign will email a copy to you, and you can also share it on a number of platforms, like Dropbox and Box.net. The app is free, and would have been even better had it not been for the credit system it uses.Nevertheless, a decent app overall, which can be downloaded at the link at the bottom.

Almost every organization emphasizes upon their employees to maintain discipline and strictly follow the policies laid out by the management. If you have already got approval, there is the option to add the leave to your log straight away. The best part of Time Off is its ability to generate detailed reports regarding your leave log. The reports can be created in Excel, HTML or plain text formats, and you can mail it to anyone from there.

In an attempt to help you with managing and securing your personal online identities (user profiles and passwords), Symantec has released a brand new app called Norton Identity Safe. Currently in open beta and available for Windows, Android and iOS (invitation only), the app serves as a secure and centralized online password vault in which you can store your user profiles for all frequently accessed web services. As of now, you can add account info to your Identity Safe only through the desktop client. All account credentials are stored on the Norton cloud, and hence, can be accessed from virtually anywhere using your valid Norton Identity Safe account. The mobile app presents you with an alternative web browser that has the capability to fetch all the saved accounts from the cloud, and auto-complete login details while you’re browsing, eliminating the hassle of remembering passwords for each and every website. Since the mobile variant of the app currently does not support managing profiles, you’ll have to install its desktop client on your Windows PC to avail said feature. Once you’ve saved account info for all required web services to the cloud, you can easily access it using the mobile client on your Android and/or iOS device. As mentioned earlier, the mobile client comes in the form of an alternative web browser with a Norton Identity Safe button (at the bottom-right of the browser) that you can tap to access and log in with any of your saved accounts with a mere tap. You’ll first have to provide your Norton account to log in to the browser, and then, feed in your valid Norton Identity Safe password to unlock the user IDs and passwords you saved to your cloud. Selecting any web service from the list takes you to its login screen from where you can sign in to the service without having to feed in account details manually. You can tap the same button again to Log out of your Identity Safe.

The app’s native browser itself sports almost all the essential features that you’d find in a conventional mobile web browser. It allows you to bookmark favorite URLs, start private browsing, simultaneously browse multiple websites in separate windows, has a native download manager, usage history, and several other handy features such as checking Site Ranking, safety levels, and blocking untrusted/unwanted webpages etc.

As is quite obvious from what is stated above, in order to use Norton Identity Safe on your mobile device, you will have to discard your default mobile web browser (as the facility is available only with the app’s native browser). Still, considering the security and ease-of-use that it adds to browsing, it isn’t all that bad an option. Not only does it aggregate all your online identities under one secure roof, but also automatically enters the info where required – particularly handy for those who use multiple web services that don’t yet have apps for Android or iOS.

Cydia for jailbroken iOS devices is all about letting users customize their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch in any way they want. The developers over at the Cydia store are known for releasing tweaks for even the smallest, and seemingly insignificant, areas of iDevices. There are ways to personalize the carrier name of your iPhone displayed in the status bar at the top of the screen. You can either use “MakeItMine”, or the incorporated customization option in SBSettings. However, Zeppelin is a new Cydia tweak which goes one step further, and using it, you can replace the carrier name with any icon of your choice.

The tweak is available in the ModMyi repo of the jailbreak store. As ModMyi is one of the default repositories, all you have to do is search for Zeppelin in Cydia and install it to your iPhone. The tweak is available as a free download and compatible with iOS 4 & iOS 5. Once installed, Zeppelin will add its menu in the Settings app, and in it, you can choose one of the available icons, with the likes of Batman, Superman and even Android listed. After you have chosen an icon, make sure that Zeppelin is enabled, and then hit the Apply & Respring button. Immediately after the device comes back to the lock screen, you will see that the carrier name is gone, showing your chosen icon in its place.

If you are not satisfied with the available collection of icons, you can add any new icon by adding it to “/Library/Zeppelin” via SSH. The icon needs to be in PNG format, and once you have added it to the given location, will appear in the tweak’s icon list. However, Zeppelin suffers a few issues in its current state. If you are using MakeItMine, the tweak won’t work for you, even if you disable MakeItMine. Also, you might face issues while trying to add a custom icon to Zeppelin.

Apart from all these problems, the end results do look nice if you get Zeppelin running on your iDevice, so do give this free tweak a try if you like to customize the appearance of your iPhone.

Appafolio is a pretty useful iOS app which brings a rather new concept to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. There are many apps which will let you create slideshows for official purposes, but Appafolio is focused on making your photos and videos more presentable, and lets you create a portfolio of your work which you can share with any of your friends. You can use Appafolio through the app, or from its web version, and the results are pretty neat.

First of all, you have to sign up for a new account before you can start using the app. The sign up procedure is carried out on the web version, and once done, you can start creating a new portfolio. Before that, you can take a complete tour of the app. The first step is to name your portfolio. Appafolio treats each new portfolio as an app of sorts, and there are three options on the app creation page. First of all, you have to choose an icon for the app you are creating. There are some default icons available in Appafolio, or if you want, you can choose a custom icon as well. The app also allows you to apply a custom theme, which will be used as the background of your portfolio. All this can be done by going to the Settings menu.

By tapping the App Creator button, you can begin uploading content to your app, but before you can do that, you have to specify the type of content you want to upload. The offered options include Image, Video and Slideshow. So, after you have chosen the type of the screen you want to add to your portfolio, you have to add a title and description for it in the respective fields. The app also lets its users customize the font and text color of the description. Appafolio will let you remove a particular screen, and you can also change the position of any screen by dragging them from the hand icon.

Once you are done creating an Appafolio app, you can share it with other users by sharing your passcode. Both the web, and iOS versions of the service can be used to view the created portfolio. This feature might feel like a limitation, as only users of the service can view your work, but when you come to think of it, Appafolio is pretty useful, as it lets you create a portfolio which can be displayed on your iDevice with ease.

After almost a week of its release in the Android Market and iTunes App Store, the official Android and iOS client of probably the largest online gaming distribution and discussion platform, Steam, is finally open to all registered Steam users, and not just the lucky ones with a beta invitation. The initial beta-only phase, as announced by Valve didn’t sit all that well with avid gamers all across the globe, especially those who already had a valid Steam account yet had to wait for an invitation. However, with the official Steam mobile app now open to all, you can access and manage your Steam profile, friends and groups on the go, chat with friends on the network (both in and outside a game), view their activities, search for games in store, view exclusive offers, manage your Wishlist and gaming cart, check out the latest gaming-related news, reviews and previews from the Steam network, as well as from multiple syndicated sources, and much more. With most of the existing unofficial alternatives (such as previously reviewed Steam for Android) now being pulled off the Market, Steam users are left with no option but to resort to the original app. It’s a good thing Steam didn’t leave out much while developing this app.

The latest Steam News as well as news from various Syndicated sources including Eurogamer, Kotaku, PC Gamer, Shacknews et al can be found under the News Feeds menu.

As mentioned earlier, all the hot running gaming deals on the store can be found form within the Catalog option in the app’s main menu. You have the option to browse games within the catalog by Featured, New and Popular games. Tapping Specials on this screen lets you take a glance at games with the biggest discount offers. You can view game screenshots, trailers (if any) and details such as Key Features, System Requirements, and Feature List,  add games to your Wishlist, or purchase them right from your mobile device.

To customize the app’s notification settings and manage your Steam profile, select Settings from within the sidebar. Tapping your username within the Settings screen lets you edit your profile and Privacy Settings. From the same screen, you can view your stats (Playing time, Rating etc), favorite Screenshots, Videos, Recently Played games as well as your Wishlist.

When it comes to editing and applying effects to photos you have in your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, iOS has an insanely large amount of apps which will let you do that, with Pho.to Lab, Fotoyaki & Bleach Bypass being some of our recently covered ones. However, no matter how many apps you can use to edit photos, it isn’t the same as getting more options in the stock Photos app. If you have a jailbroken iDevice, then Cydia does have a few options for enhancing the capabilities of the stock Photos app, and that is exactly what GrayPix does. Admittedly, it just adds the one option to Camera Roll, namely Grayscale, but it can prove to be a useful addition to your iDevice. Read on to know all about GrayPix.

Normally, there are 5 options each time you open a photo in your iPhone’s Camera Roll or any other album. These options are brought up by tapping the button present in the bottom left corner of the image, and include Email Photo, Assign to Contact, Use as Wallpaper, Tweet and Print. Once you install GrayPix, a new option is added to that menu, titled Convert to Greyscale. Whenever you want to make a photo black & white, just open it, bring up the options and tap the first one we just mentioned above. GrayPix will process your instruction, and once that is done, a new copy of the opened image will be created. It is noteworthy that the tweak will not mess with the original image, and a greyscale copy of it will be created, separate from the opened one.

Among the most publicized features of iOS 5 before it was actually released, was its Twitter integration and Notification Center, and maybe that’s the reason the iOS jailbreak community has been treated with so many Cydia tweaks related to Notification Center and tweeting. However, only a handful of those tweaks combine the two features, and QuickTweet is one of them. Using this tweak, you can compose a new tweet right from within the Notification Center and post it straightaway.

There are quite a few apps which are focused on letting iPhone users send Twitter updates quickly, like the recently covered Twicon, but most of those options are reliant upon Activator gestures, or add a whole new app icon to the Springboard. This might clutter your device’s outlook unnecessarily, and that is what gives QuickTweet the edge over its competitors. Once installed, the tweak will add a rather small, and good-looking, icon to the the NC, and tapping it will bring up a box to let you compose a new tweet. QuickTweet won’t even take up the space of a whole widget, and its icon will be added as a standalone shortcut in the bottom left of the Notification Center.

QuickTweet can prove to be a really useful tweak if you are a regular Twitter user, and you can get it for free. The tweak is available in the ModMyi repo of the Cydia store. There are not many tweaks which add icons to the Notification Center the way QuickTweet does, and just to check that out, it is worth a download.

If you are an iPhone user running iOS 5, then you must be aware of the iCloud integration offered by this latest iOS version. One of the most used feature of iCloud is Photo Stream, which automatically uploads all your Camera Roll photos to the cloud. The app will automatically upload all the photos and videos shot with its camera to Dropbox, and you can even sync older media with ease, too.

QuickShot has a really neat interface, and you can use it as a camera replacement app, because when you launch it, the app will be on its camera screen, ready to start shooting photos. However, before you start snapping pictures, link your Dropbox account with QuickShot, as that is the whole purpose of the app. This can be done by going to the Settings menu from the icon to the left of the screen. The app will ask for permission to link the account, and once you have done that, you are good to go. You can choose the folder to which the photos will be synced, and if you don’t, the pics will go to the stock Photos folder in Dropbox by default. QuickShot will also display the remaining storage space left in your Dropbox. From the same Settings menu, you can choose to toggle on or off Geotagging in the uploaded photos.

If you are thinking that QuickShot has a somewhat limited functionality, as it only syncs the photos taken from its own camera, think again. You can upload any photo or video to your Dropbox account by hitting the button to the right of the camera button. This button not only has the option to take you to your Photos library, but you can also switch between photos and video from here.

Sprint is a carrier which boasts of more than 53 million users, and a considerable percentage of those subscribers are on iPhone. That is the reason the service provider has launched an iOS app, using which Sprint subscribers can gain access to customer support with ease. For non-users, there is the Help menu, and with that, you can view any help topic to make your overall iOS experience better. This section of the app also comes with the option to let you call your nearest Apple Care center. Sprint Zone will generate tips for you as well, regarding customer related issues like privacy and maintenance.

The best part of Sprint Zone, for non subscribers, at least, is the My Device menu. This section is all about managing the resources and other performance parameters of your iDevice. Power Controls show the remaining battery life of your device, and when you enter it, you can view the time for which you can keep using your iPhone if you run a particular app, like YouTube, 3D games and the like. The Resources section is laid out pretty similarly to the Power Controls menu, and lists all the running processes, along with their consumption. You can also see the time for which a process has been running.

Sprint Zone lists the Apple and Sprint stores according to their distance from your current location. The stores are displayed on the stock Maps app, and you can view the store details by simply tapping the pin. Sprint Zone is a free app, and even if you are not a subscriber of the carrier, you still might find the app useful for its resource management features.

It doesn’t happen too often that an app is released for iOS after it has been around on Windows Phone 7 for quite a while, but WNM Live is one such rare app. The app has just been released for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users, and it has all the components which made it a success on WP7. WNM Live is basically a social network, but instead of letting you interact with people you know, it allows you to make new friends based on your location and interests. If you already have an account for the WP7 version of WNM Live, you can use that to login to the iOS app. Even if you don’t have one, signing up is easy and can be done by just providing your email ID and a new password. The first section of the app to which you are taken is the Live Stream, and it consists of all the public posts made by users near you. The feed can be sorted on the basis of your location, and the time at which the posts were made. You can also choose to follow a particular person or topic, and updates from those entities will appear in the Watched menu. You can leave your comments on any post you like by hitting the blue bar below each post. In the People section of WNM Live, you can take a look at the users of the app who are located near you. WNM Live will also let you know which users are online, and you can start chatting with them straightway, without the need to add the person to your contacts. Apart from online chat, WNM Live has a separate menu for offline Messages.

Whenever you navigate to a WNM Live user’s profile, the app will display their usage stats, like the time when they were last online, and their current distance from you. You can also see the person’s age, gender and a short bio on their profile. WNM Live has a badge system of its own, in which different badges are bestowed upon users when they attain a specific landmark related to app usage. A profile has a separate section for Photos, in which albums can be created, as well. However, you have to remember that everything you share on WNM Live is public, and anyone can view the items. In addition to chatting and sending messages, you can send virtual gifts (flowers or flashy text) if you don’t have anything to say, but would still like to start a conversation.

In the Settings menu of the app you get to define your preferences for finding users, so that only relevant suggestions are made to you by WNM Live. This means you can choose to only see users with photos, or if they belong to a particular gender. The app, like its WP7 counterpart, is free, and an Android version is promised to be coming soon. Knowtilus is an app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, which is so multipurpose and versatile that it is impossible to place it under one category. The app integrates a lot of useful features, and makes using your iOS device a much more enjoyable and productive experience. The biggest part of Knowtilus is its web browser, which, apart from having a clean interface, also reads out whole pages to you, and lets you translate them to more than 20 languages. Other than the web browser, you get a text editor, which is not too complicated and lets you focus on the task at hand. Knowtilus welcomes you with an introductory note, presented in its very own text editor. The app will also read it out aloud, letting you hear all about the things you can do with it. The browser in Knowtilus is pretty minimalistic in its outlook, and is not cluttered with too many options. Hit the close button in the top left corner, and you can enjoy the app’s tabbed browsing. You can resize the browser easily by simply dragging the tabs any way you want. Knowtilus, in addition to reading out the text on a page, also has a visual helper, and you can bring it up by tapping the person icon in the top bar. To make the assistant read out any page, tap the share button in the left of the bottom bar, and from there, select the Read aloud option. To make the Knowtilus assistant stop reading, there is the pause button. If you want to search within the current page, that option can be brought by tapping the Settings icon in the extreme right of the address bar. You can translate the contents of any page, and have them read aloud, in any of the listed languages, which can be found under Settings. Some other tasks, like scanning QR codes, can also be performed from this menu. Knowtilus lets its users convert the contents of a web page to a PDF file, and that option can be found under the sharing button as well.

A very useful option offered by Knowtilus is the Share button, which allows you to send a particular page to just about any network, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and via email. The app’s way of saving your Favorites is pretty interesting, and you will see all the saved pages as a grid in the respective section. One of the best features of Knowtilus is its ability to save pages for offline viewing. When a page is saved, only its relevant content will be downloaded, and the app will automatically remove ads and other extraneous data from it. Knowtilus is perfect for reading and managing your RSS feeds, and instead of the usual long list of incoming news as text, you will be able to see them in the form of thumbnails, letting you navigate among them like the icons in the App Switcher tray. You can also sort the items in your feeds by hitting the sorting buttons provided below the thumbnails.

As an offline app, Knowtilus has a pretty neat text editor, and sketch pad. If you want to make quick notes, add any drawing to an existing page, or are just in the mood for doodling, the app’s sketching area is just the thing you need. You can sketch over a webpage, or over a photo imported from your iPhone or iPad’s library. It also has a few colors, and you can customize other aspects of the drawing environment as well, like removing a part of the photo, overlaying it with text or even doing both at the same time. Similarly, the text editor in Knowtilus has an ample amount of options, but it is designed to not distract its users while they are working. For the text, you can choose from among a lot of provided fonts, color and size. Knowtilus can also be configured to read out whatever you write, and when you are done, you can share your work over your social network, or with anyone else through email.

Within Knowtilus, the copy-paste bar gets a new menu added it to it, and if you enter it, you can translate snippets of selected text, which might come in handy as the lite version of the app has the limitation of not being able to translate pieces of text which are too long. The lite version of Knowtilus costs $3.99, but for a very limited time, you can get it for free!
