Freemake Music Box is a music player that lets you search for free online music, and listen to millions of songs. It allows you to find, listen to and organize your favorite music, and automatically plays videos from YouTube. You can search the music by artist name, album name or the exact song name, depending on your choice. The application enables you to create and save playlists, change the order of songs in playlists, and keeps the playlists intact for listening to your favorite songs at a later time. Freemake Music Box makes sure that the music that you’re listening to is available legally on the internet, and provides you with all the basic options of a music player.

The interface of the application has the playlist at the left side, the search function is available in the right pane while the video is played in the lower-left corner of the application. To search for a song, artist or album, simply type your query in the search field and hit Enter. The songs can be either added to the playlist by hitting the Add (+) button, or played directly from the Play button. sPlaylistMaker is a portable application that makes it easy to create M3U and M3U8 playlists. These playlists can then be played with popular media players such as iTunes, VLC, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player and many others. This will create a M3U or M3U8 file within the directory and sub-directories of the specified folder(s). For example, if you added a folder to sPlaylistMaker (via drag & drop) that contained sub-folders with MP3 and WAV files, then a playlist with a suitable file extension will be automatically created in each sub-folder.

If you enable Edit Smart Playlist after loading option, it will open iTunes Smart Playlist editor to change the filter criteria of selected smart playlist.

Smarts is a great, little extension for adding new smart playlists and changing their filters according to the requirements. It works on Mac 10.6 and higher.

After signing up for 8tracks’ service (just your e-mail address and a new password needed) you are eligible to listen to all the awesome playlists available in the app (and trust us, there are a lot of them). You can simply search for a playlist by its name, but that’s not advisable as you never know by which name the lists might be saved. It’s better if you view them according to your moods or categories. Genres include all the well-known music genres and have playlists pertaining to each category. There are also an option to search for playlists including one (or many) songs from a certain singer.

You can skip a track in a playlist and/or set one that you like as your favorite. The streaming rate is pretty good and the consistency is respectable on an average Wi-Fi connection. In case you want to listen to a playlist again, History keeps track of everything you have played. The app is excellent addition to the Marketplace, though a download option (for listening to songs while you’re offline) would make it even better. Another great thing about 8tracks: it’s free!

BeatBox is a fast, simple, and elegant music player for Ubuntu Linux, with album art and playlist support. It allows creating playlists with detailed information regarding the track including the artists and album’s name, date, genre, comments, play count, year, rating, length and other related information. BeatBox volume options can be easily configured from the system tray. Album art and music files can be added by simple drag and drop.

Ubuntu 11,04 and 11.10 users can install BeatBox from the following Terminal commands:

You can view favorites, never played songs, not recently played songs, history and over played tracks from the options  on the left-hand side menu. New playlists can be created from right-click context menu options.

Other than the common playlist, you can also create an in-depth playlist known as the New Smart Playlist, which allows adding numerous details of the track including, album and artist’s name, genre, date, year, track length, rating, etc.

Album art enables you to easily sort and manage albums for quickly playing tracks. You can also drag and drop audio files to a playlist for adding more files to it.

Start My Day is an application designed to pamper those users who hate the idea of opening applications from different locations and are in need of tool which can hold all of their favorite applications, music, tools, web favorites under one hood.

This small utility has a simple interface, which lets you easily get started. For alarm settings, you have the option to specify the days on which you would like to run the applications or play the music.

From the upper part of the window, you can also run all the applications in bulk or one selected application by clicking appropriate button. It lets you save the music library in WPL (playlist) format, you can play the saved playlist in other supported media players as well.

The application comes in handy to batch run multiple programs and applications, all the favorite web links can be stored and favorite list of music can be managed in single window, if you count yourself in need of such application, try this little tool out.

It runs on all Windows based OS, we tested it on Windows 7 x86 system.

As the name implies, Shoutcast Playlist Downloader is a free music application that lets you download the up to-date-radio station playlists from SHOUTcast website.  It is capable of downloading multiple playlists of  specified genres in minutes. You won’t need to do hectic job of sorting multiple radio playlists; it smartly does so.

It is portable application, you can carry it anywhere without any hassle of installation involved. On first time usage, all you need is to click the Refresh button present at the lower part of the window to populate with genres list.

Select your favorite genres, MP3 or AAC+ format, and maximum & minimum bitrates. Once you’ve specified genres, hit Download .pls files button to begin saving playlists in specified location.  ‘C:/shoutcastradio’ is default location for playlists download, however,  you can specify any location by clicking Browse button.

As it is capable of creating local list of radio stations, you’ll be able to use them with XBOX media center (XBMC), MPlayer or WiiMC. To put in a net-shell, if you’re a music addict having fervor for many genres, give this application a shot.

If you’re an avid computer user and music junkie like myself, you probably would have a huge collection of music files on your system, which might be neatly sorted in separate folders (or if you’re absolutely like me, all haphazardly stored in one single folder). Either the case, one major element that most PC-music-lovers lack is playlists. Yes, they can be a huge help when you want to listen to a particular track, and don’t want to manually sort through all your library, or when you want to listen to one particular genre of music.

SnapPlay is a free and small software that creates playlists for all your music collection with just the click of a button, with some nice options.

Update: The name has been changed from SnapList to SnapPlay.

First, you get to choose what type of playlist you want. You can have a Windows Media Player specific playlist (which incidentally my WMP failed to recognize as a valid playlist), or you can create a standard M3U playlist, which works fine with almost all players. For playlist storage, you can have all in the same folder as the music storage, or specify a new target folder. SnapPlay can also delete any existing playlists for you.

Once you have set up the tool as per your liking, click Do Playlists and that’s it. Your playlists would be created in your specified folder. One good thing is that SnapPlay handles sub-folders as well, and will create a playlist for every subfolder within the parent directory.

We have tested SnapPlay on Windows 7; should work fine with previous releases as well.

With the popularity of online music services, it comes as no surprise when music downloading tools become available. Just like the popularity of YouTube fueled the video downloaders and Spotify’s popularity all across Europe resulted in Spotify Recorder, today we have a tool called Playlist Downloader for a popular online music service Playlist.com.

Since Playlist.com is only available in selected countries, including the US, users outside these countries cannot download the music playlist with this tool. Just run the app, enter select the output directory, and add the URL of Playlist.com’s music playlist.

Once you have entered the playlist URL, click ‘Add URL to list’ button to add the URL to the list. You can add multiple playlist’s URL to the list.

When done, hit ‘Download The Music’ button and a new console window will open with the download progress clearly shown.

This tool will not work in countries outside the region where Playlist.com is available, you can however use a free VPN utility to access the site from outside.

foobar2000 is a solid audio player which can play almost any audio formats. Unlike VLC Media Player which focuses on both video and audio, it only focuses on playing audio files. It is a preferred alternative to Winamp for many users, the ease-of-use combined with advanced functionalities and openness makes it a must have audio player.

What if you want to synchronize the foobar2000 playlists with various audio devices which come with restrictions, such as codec, artwork, and directory structure?

Synchronizer for foobar2000 is a tool developed exactly for this purpose. Officially it supports Palm Pre, Volkswagen Rabbit build-in audio, B&O BeoSound 2, and Sony but you can use it to sync with any audio device provided you can create a simple XML file for it(which is quite easy).

By default it doesn’t know the playlist’s root path and device’s root path. You have to manually enter the paths inside the XML file under Libraries folder. At first you might feel this to be a complicated step but you just need to edit the XML file and enter the correct path, it is that easy. To see an example, go here.

Update: Editing can be done by opening the XML file in notepad, no other tool is required. You can also create a new XML file by changing the extension of the notepad from .txt to .xml.

Once you have entered the path for the playlist and the device that you want to sync, run the executable file. Now select the device that you want to sync and hit Next. It will then detect the device, here you have to click Next again. Finally it will show you the number of songs that were detected, hit Done and the wizard will close.

On the main window you will see all the songs along with their encoding, status, and action. Here you can review the songs and remove the the ones that are “Junks”. Hit Copy To Device button to begin synchronization.

What can this program do? It can convert FLAC and OGG files into MP3 files, embed artwork in MP3 file, and flatten directory hierarchies.

The only additional tool that you require for this app to work is the COM Automation Server for foobar2000. It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. .NET Framework 3.5 or higher must be installed. Enjoy!

The lack of functionality in iTunes to sync with mp3 players other than iPod and iPhone kept many users away from making it their default media player. Once a new mp3 player has been added, right-click the iTunes Sync system tray icon and select Synchronize Mp3 Player. Now select the Mp3 Player(Playlist) and the drive with with you want to sync. When ready, hit Sync Mp3 Player and you are done.

This is the only tool out there that actually does a very good job in synching iTunes with mp3 players. But it might not sync with those players that don’t use mp3 file format.

Apple has done their best to make playlists creation process a bit easier for users, they even introduced the smart playlist feature but many users still find creating playlists a difficult process. iFolderer wants to change all that.

It is a simple tool with drag & drop interface. You just need to drag and drop any folder containing music files and it will automatically create a playlist out of it. The playlist can then be accessed from the left sidebar of iTunes.

If your folder has few sub-folders containing more music files, they will be displayed in the exact same order in iTunes. In short, the whole folder structure will remain intact. When you use this tool, each CD folder will become a Playlist folder. They will be arranged just like they are in your hard disk.

I would request the developer to create a Windows version as well since this tool is the fastest way to create iTunes playlist so far.

Microsoft’s free Zune software is a great place for managing your music collection, for $15 a month you can have access to unlimited music downloads and 10 DRM free downloads every month.You can download and manage your music playlists, but these playlists are not compatible with Windows Media Center. ZplToWpl is a free opensource tool that converts Microsoft Zune playlist to Windows Media Player/Windows Media Center compatible playlist.

My Advise To Microsoft: Making Zune playlist compatible with Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center gives users a choice to listen to their music anywhere they want. Wonder why nobody is buying Zune? One reason among many is that it’s not compatible with other Windows Media software, so for God’s sake fix this issue fast.

To convert the playlist, select both Zune playlist folder and Windows Media Player playlist folder and press Convert.

You can also backup existing playlists easily. Some people may argue that you can do the same by opening the playlist with notepad and changing the header, but it gets both tedious and boring when dealing with multiple playlists that get updated frequently. Do you love the the music playlist of  your friend’s or co-worker’s iPod? You can now copy the songs to your computer, and then later copy them to your iPod using iTunes if you have one. Almost everyone carry an iPod  these days, if you love someone’s music playlist you can borrow his iPod for few minutes and copy his music to your computer instantly. iDump is a free little tool that lets you copy all music from any iPod to your computer.

There are  two types of files, one is a simple installer and the other is an executable file which you can download from here.

Just connect your iPod and run this tool(executable file), it will display the list of music with artist and album details. It also shows the file size of each song. Below is the screenshot I took which connecting my friend’s iPod(he has hell lot of Indian songs).

Press Ctrl + A to select all music at once. Go to Output Options tab to change the output directory or set other preferences.

After you have selected the song and done all settings, click Tools and select Start Copy.

It will now begin copying all music to the output destination you selected.

It copes all song by artist name and arranges in a great way. I thought it would take forever to copy the songs, but to my surprise it took just 35 seconds to copy 133 songs. Start increasing your music playlist now. Enjoy!
