Pandora is a music streaming service with quite a lot of followers. For such a popular service, it makes sense that some of its users must be on Windows Phone 7. Unfortunately, there is no official Pandora app for WP7 yet, despite the presence of a considerable WP7 contingent among Pandora’s subscribers. However, what isn’t available officially on the Mango platform, usually makes its way to the Marketplace via third-party clients. Same is the case with Pandora, which has now got Radio Controlled, an app which will let you do just about anything related to your Pandora account, and while listening to its radio, you aren’t likely to feel that you are not using Pandora’s official app.

Of course, you will need to have a Pandora account before you can use the app, which makes the app useful for US residents only. No separate login is required for Radio Controlled, just enter your Pandora ID and password, and the app will take you straight to your account. The interface used throughout the app is pretty metro-like, and makes using Pandora a joy. If you have any channels bookmarked in your account, they will show up in Radio Controlled. Not only that, you can also create new stations from within the app if you want to. One nicety brought to WP7 by Mango is background play, and Radio Controlled fully supports that. While listening to a song on any station, you can navigate to any part of the phone, and the song will keep on playing.

Radio Controlled supports universal search, and you can look for any station, song or artist you want. The app not only connects with Pandora, but also gets information from Zune and Amazon. While listening to any track,, you can tap its info tab, and the song’s album art, artist info and other relevant data will be loaded. You can purchase the songs from Zune or Amazon as well.

New to the Android Market, The Social Radio For Twitter takes a unique and innovative approach to keeping you apprised of all your latest tweets. It reads them out to you as they come in. The app’s interface resembles the looks and functionality of a radio player that reads aloud Twitter updates, trending topics or any searched content, with your favorite music tracks playing in the background. The app, emulating the ways of a real radio broadcast, uses an audio fade-in/out effect on the TTS voice before and after reading a new tweet. That’s not all; the app supports reading various common emoticons and text abbreviations in tweets, and automatically detects the language of each tweet.

To begin using the app, you must, of course, connect it to your Twitter ID. To listen to your Twitter Timeline, tap the Tune in to your timeline button under the Home tab. After playing a signature tune, the app fetches all your recent tweets and reads them aloud one-by-one. You can opt to play your favorite music in the background by hitting the Turn your music on! option from this screen. All you need to do is pick your favorite tracks or playlist from the SD card.

Oddly enough, the app doesn’t sport a native music player, so all the music is played via the stock Music app or a third-party music player of your choice. On the app’s radio interface, you have media controls and a button for manually checking for new tweets. While playing your tweets, the app keeps you apprised of the number of unread ones.

Other tabs on the app’s homescreen can be used to listen to content from your Twitter Lists, trending topics (Trends) or a topic of your choice (Search). From the app’s settings screen (Menu > Settings), you can specify the time interval after which you want the app to fetch new tweets automatically, and the Still Active Alert time after which the signature tune should be played (in case no new tweet is received). You can also log out from the app from within the same screen.

Each entry has a page of its own wherein, not only can you view the video, but also view the contents of that talk, and get to know the speaker a bit.

Like with most apps listing diverse content, you can search through TED for talks by a particular speaker, or on a specific topic. If you want to view all the talks listed under a particular topic or category, go to the Archives. Within this section, you’ll find all content listed under different tags. If you can’t find something on the app that you think should be there, you may add such ideas to the My Talks section. The app also allows you to listen to the official radio channel run by TED that streams live all over the world.

The most interesting section of the app is the Inspire Me tab. Within this section, the app asks you to specify the category that you would like to browse through, and the time that you can spare. On the basis of these two conditions, you are presented with a random talk from the chosen category, with a length within the specified time span.

Nexus Radio is a free music application that lets you search, listen, and download millions of songs from various sources. Apart from it, you can listen to thousands of radio stations which have been pre-filled inside this app. These radio stations have been categories according to their music genres.

To listen to a radio station, click the Stations tab on top and select All Stations. From the left sidebar choose your favorite genre and then select the stations from the main window. In total, you will find more than 8000 stations.

Additional options of each radio station, such as, quick recording, add to favorites, and search for artist or song that is playing in the radio are given under Control Panel. Below is a quick look at the Options tab. As you can see, the default directories for recorded files and downloaded music can be changed. You can also select the default audio bitrate, depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Once you select the radio station, you can close it down and it will minimize to the system tray. You will be notified of the upcoming song that will be played next. This notification would wary, depending on when the current song is going to end.

Overall, it is a robust and powerful music app for serious music lovers. It takes 28-29Mb for system memory while running, which is worth for what this app can perform. It works on Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7. Enjoy!
