This is a web app similar to MegaUpload and Rapidshare, allowing you to upload, share, and download files in just a few clicks. Bayfiles offers unregistered users an upload limit of 250MB per file, while registered users get as much as 500MB file size. Premium service, which is paid, allows an upload of up to 5GB per file. Among all the file sharing services out, RapidShare holds its ground as being one of the top choices for a majority of users. Things start looking even better when you go for a premium account with the service, since that entails an unlimited storage, no restriction on downloads, faster bandwidth and much more. If you’re one of those users that operate under the RapidShare Premium umbrella, you’re in luck, because now, you can have unlimited storage space on your local file system with RapidDrive. This free application lets you map your RapidShare Premium account as a local drive in Windows, allowing you to upload files to the service’s servers using easy drag & drop, just like any other local folder/drive, without any interruptions. RapidDrive runs in the system tray, and has no complicated configurations to deal with whatsoever. When you install the application, a reboot will be required, after which you can find the app running in system tray. Upon first run, it will ask you to provide your RapidShare Premium account details. Save these settings and let the program verify your credentials.

With your account details provided, the next step will be creating the web drive (shows under Network Locations in Computer – first screenshot). The program will handle that for you on its own, and assign a drive letter from available options (X: in our case).

Once drive has been created successfully, it will launch in Windows Explorer, and will behave as such, so that you can add or remove files just by dragging & dropping and vice versa. Files can be added, deleted, and otherwise manipulated in all ways that Windows Explorer supports.

When you copy a file to RapidDrive, it gets uploaded to your mapped RapidShare Premium account seamlessly, with the upload running in background unobtrusively. Similar to Windows’ native progress dialog, RapidDrive also shows the uploaded file’s details and time remaining, calculated based on your internet connection speed.

Since the program has no interface, and runs solely in the system-tray, a few options available include opening the drive, total space used, preferences (which will only allow changing the account credentials), list of completed uploads, stopping and restarting the service, and exiting RapidDrive altogether.

RapidDrive is a great application for RapidShare Premium users, since it virtually gives you unlimited storage space for your Windows-based machine, and makes management of stored files much easier as compared to the conventional web interface of RapidShare. During our testing, a minor annoyance that we faced a couple of times was RapidDrive getting disconnected for no apparent reason, which went away after restarting the service. It does, however, require a fast internet connection, since the program communicates continuously with RapidShare servers.

RapidDrive is free to download and run, but RapidShare Premium accounts come at a cost. It requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to operate, and works well on all versions of Windows (Windows 7 preferable) above Windows XP. Our testing was done on a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate installation.

Many users love JDownloader because it helps downloading files from upto 110 file hosting websites and it just works. ochDownloader is a similar application for grabbing files but does not support as many file hosting services as JDownloader. At the moment, it supports MegaUpload, Rapidshare, Fileserve, Filefactory, Filesonic, and Wupload, with the developer planning to add more soon. So what is the great thing about ochDownloader? It may not be as feature rich as JDownloader or even MDownloader, but it is a more simplified downloader for automatically detecting download URLs from supported files and downloading them.

ochDownloader supports automatic shutdown, clipboard detection, resumption of downloads, and session restoration. It is less resource intensive than JDownloader and has a memory stamp of 15MB, as compared to a memory stamp of 200 MB (approximately) by JDownloader (as determined during testing).

Once you copy or click on a download link, ochDownloader automatically detects the download link and adds it to the Add Downloads tab. To download a detected link, click Download Selected. In case a link gives an error, you can use the re-check option to check the validity of the link or remove it from the list. Similarly, you can change the default download directory and import containers for specifying download links. The number of slots and global download speed limit can be selected from the options located at the bottom right corner of the main interface. ochDownloader automatically saves your session when you close it, which means on launch again it will resume all downloads from where you left off.

Although normally ochDownloader auto detects download links from clipboard, you can also manually add download links from Add Links option.

Once a download begins, the file added first to the queue is downloaded followed by the file added next. You can increase the slot limit upto 20 for simultaneous download. If you are using a proxy server, the proxy settings can be configured from Preferences (wrench and screwdriver icon on top toolbar). The downloaded file log can be analyzed from the Log tab.

Currently, this application only supports logging into your MegaUpload account (by clicking on the Start button). The developer has assured of adding more services to the download list and the container option from Add Downloads tab seems to be a step towards the development of a native file hosting system, since the imported file containers can only be of och format.

MuDownManager is an open source, free download manager that simplifies and accelerates downloads from RapidShare and MegaUpload. Remember Rightload, a tool that adds an option to the windows right-click context menu allowing you to upload files directly to your FTP/SFTP server or some pre-defined HTTP upload servers. Filez – This site has 1514427+ files indexed so far. Warning: There are porn adult tags everywhere on the homepage.

RapidLibarary – This site has everything inlcuded, from movies to books, it also displays the last 200 searches on their homepage.

RapidAll - This is the best site if you want to search for movies. It shows great results, including HD and DVD rips.
