Many temporary files containing data of your online activity can end up compromising your privacy. This includes anything from tracking cookies to application data that contains information regarding your system activity. Such vulnerabilities can easily be exploited by hackers and malware to steal your passwords and other sensitive information. Wipe is an easy to use trace eraser for quickly wiping out tracks of your online activity. The data deletion process not just deletes, but shreds, all sensitive data, making it unrecoverable for malicious agents.

Once the application is launched, it provides you with the two methods of erasing your data, i.e., general or advanced mode. The “Delete tracks and garbage” mode is the generic one, which delivers automatic deletion of online activity, whereas you can choose precise type of files to delete by using the “Advanced Cleaning Mode.” After selecting a desired method, click Continue to proceed further.

If you choose the advanced mode, you will be provided with a list to select items to add/remove from the trace erasing process. For example, you can clear clipboard, FTP account cache, Run (MRU) list, temporary internet files, recent documents and lists, game statistics, prefetch files, desktop thumbnail cache and much more. Provision of such advanced options makes Wipe more comprehensive than other applications of its kind, such as Browser Cleaner.

Click Delete to start deleting the selected files. Wipe is not a new application, but a new version (Wipe 2012) has recently been released with advanced features.

Before deleting files, you can click Settings and configure Wipe to start with system start up, enable automatic closure of programs during cleaning process, set page file memory to be purged at system shutdown etc. Some of the options available in Settings are not available in the free version, but you can register with Wipe any time and pay $12.95 to acquire additional features, which include the utility to set a custom trace erasing algorithm.

It must be noted that the free version of Wipe is ad-supported, attempts to install a toolbar and provides a registration option to buy the paid version. However, you can easily avoid this by unchecking the installation of the toolbar and skipping other ads. Wipe works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Do you use Mac junk cleaners, like, CleanMyMac, OnyX and other like tools, to delete left over data, saved preferences, and other associated files of already trashed applications? How about a utility which has the ability to instantly delete all the associated files whenever you move application from Mac App folder to Trash? AppTrap is an application written to offer this very convenience to Mac users. It integrates with Mac System Preferences, letting you activate and deactivate AppTrap’s observing process. Once activated, it starts observing ‘application to trash’ action from user.

When you attempt to trash an application, it sends a prompt, asking you to either keep application’s data or move all the associated files of application being trashed to Trash. Clicking Move files will start the process of finding and moving the associated data of application in question.

After the AppTrap is integrated into System Preferences window, click Start AppTrap to start its service.

When you move the application to Trash, you will see a AppTrap prompt asking to move the associated files. Upon clicking Move files, it will start moving all the related files and data to Trash.

AppTrap service runs as long as you want. To stop this behavior of moving associated files to Trash, you need to stop the service from System Preferences. It is an open source application that works on all versions of Mac.

Many trace erasing software are merely limited to clearing browser related data and do not remove confidential content traces from application directories. For example, lets say you are a developer who works on flash related software and have developed a project for a client. Assuming that the project was of confidential nature, you might be willing to remove all traces of the project (after completion) from your computer. However, many trace erasing software do not allow clearing temporary files from specific software directories. Of course it is nether easy nor logical to find and remove temporary content from hundreds of Windows folders. Browser Cleaner is a portable trace erasing utility that is designed to securely delete all traces of your online and offline activity by removing several unnecessary files. Other than protecting your privacy and getting rid of temporary files with confidential data, it can also help in removing system clutter. This portable tool deletes history of visited websites, clears browser temporary files and eliminates records of your Internet activity from all famous web browsers and offline files for selected applications.

After launching Browser Cleaner, select the browser(s) that you wish to erase files from. You can click on the Options button next to any of the browser names to configure what type of files you wish to delete.

A great feature of Browser Cleaner is that it allows selecting programs for cleaning junk files. You can clear junk files (e.g. log and cache files) from multiple selected applications.

You can also specify Windows folders for removing unwanted files. To clean unnecessary files from applications, browsers and other Windows temporary file folders click Clean Now. You will receive a system tray notification once the cleaning process is complete.

The Wipe Free Space tab provides options to clear free space from system drives. Free space on a hard drive is the area on your hard drive containing de-allocated memory. This is where all the data you have previously deleted is stored, until it is overwritten by something else. With Browser Cleaner, you can clear the free disk space area to overwrite your deleted confidential content from being recovered. Just select the drive to wipe free space from and click Wipe Now.

The Settings tab allows launching Browser Cleaner at startup, hiding it when it is minimized, enabling sound when wipe functions are completed and enabling balloon tip notifications for finished cleanup jobs.

Did we mention that it can clean Flash History and Clipboard Cache too? It works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Note: This is a short tip to help those who have just bought their new Computer and want to remove all unwanted pre-installed software.

Did you just buy a new computer and found all junk software pre-installed? Half of which you have never even heard of before and half which you don’t even need. Well you are not alone, when I bought my hp laptop, all pre-installed software used approximately 25GB of hard disk space. To remove all these pre-installed software manually it can take hours and for some even days. Many software are installed in the background and are impossible to find if you are a novice user.

Do you want to remove all these unwanted pre-installed software with a single click? PC Decrapifier is a software which does exactly that. Just install this software and it will create a system restore point just in case something goes wrong, and then you have to simply select the software from the list that you want to uninstall and click Next.

This software is free for personal use, but you will have to pay $20 if you want to buy it for commercial purposes

Removing Pre-Installed Software will result in faster computer performance. I didn’t tested this software with my new hp laptop, what I simply did was completely format my whole computer and then reinstalled Windows Vista. In this way my registry remained clean and all junk pre-installed software left no trial on my computer.

Got any question or feedback, feel free to comment.
