With each passing day, the pace of life has been increasing all over the world. Compared to our ancestors, we are required to perform a lot more tasks in lesser time. With all the different things one has to complete in a day, it is almost must to have a good task manager to help you remember and manage them easily and efficiently. Back in October 2011, we reviewed a cross-platform task management application for Android, named Conqu. The same task manager is now available for Windows with all its functionality.

The application allows you to manage your tasks by providing you with a comprehensive set of features, such as Quick Add for adding new tasks without wasting time, Tags that allow you to create and apply tags to simplify managing a large number of tasks, Dates with both due date and schedule date calendars for settings up tasks that need to be performed the same day or at a later date. Conqu also allows you to manage tasks that you have delegated to others, and receive notifications when they have completed it.

The application has tabs in the left pane, including Inbox, Today, Next, Future, Waiting etc, to manage tasks separately according to importance, tags, time limits, while their details and edit options appear in the right. Tasks can be added by typing them in the top bar and clicking Add Task.

Once a task has been added, you can edit and enter more information about it, including Project, Due Date, Context, Flag it with different colors, set Energy Level, Time, Tags, set Schedule Date, and enter details of contacts if tasks are assigned to them.

Different type of tasks can be organized into different projects and managed according to their tags, time, flags, schedules etc.

Click Conqu menu in the top-left corner and select Preferences to set up ConquSync if you are using the application on more than one device. Sharing allows you to let others know that you have delegated a task to them. They will receive an email, and when the task is done, check the task in the web-based task manager of Conqu.

The best thing about this application, is that it is available for all the major platforms, so you can manage your tasks from almost every device, including your tablet, phone, laptop and desktop computer. The supported device are Android based tablets, iPad, Blackberry Playbook, Amazon Kindle Fire, Barnes & Noble Nook, Android based phones, iPhone, Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

DFIncBackup is a powerful file backup utility for Windows that enables users to create highly customizable backup tasks and run them simultaneously. Supporting local and remote locations, the application can create backups in highly compressed and encrypted ZIP archive containers to prevent unauthorized usage from any external source. Moreover, the application presents an overly simple wizard to collect backup task requirements from user; it includes a number of backup options ranging from backup type (incremental and differential), source and destination folder, schedule options, file compression and encryption, and file change monitoring options. In short, DFIncBackup provides a comprehensive backup solution, carrying all the features and options that one would need to create backup tasks according to the requirements. Apart from providing you with pre-defined backup task templates including Email messages, Archive files, Internet files, Music and video, Photos and Windows shell settings, it allows creating a rule-based file inclusion and exclusion lists to select only required file types from the source folder. Additionally, you can specify multiple source folders from where files are to be picked according to defined file masks, and then backed up at defined target location.

For each Backup Template, you have the option to pick file masks to define the types of file you wish to backup. For instance, if you choose Photos and Images template, it will ask you to check the file types from the list, which includes BMP, JPG, PNG< TIF, JPEG and more. This saves you the time it takes to manually specify the types of files that are to backed up.  The application also provides an option to save a local copy of backup archive when you choose to backup data at remote location or removable drive.

On the main interface, it shows all the backup tasks in a queue with options to start, pause and stop the backup process, edit the backup task settings and options, restore the backup archive & extract backups, and configure application settings. To create a new backup task, click New and enter the name of the Backup Task.

The first step requires you to choose either a backup template or Selected file types option. You can select a backup template, and specify the type of files you want to backup at destination folder. However, if you go for manual selection mode, you need to manually specify the file masks.

The following steps require specifying source folders, target location (local drive, network location, removable device) and backup type – incremental or differential. Once backup type has been set, you need to specify default method for detecting changes. It lets you check both By Date and By Content options to backup files as soon as it detects a change. From underneath the file monitoring section, you can configure file archiving methods. include opened and hidden files in file archiving process, and choose required compression level.

The next step lets you enable schedule backup option, and choose backup mode for execution of scheduled backup tasks.

If you enable the backup schedule option, it will require specifying the time and days on which backup tasks are to be performed.

After you set the backup schedule option, configure Errors, Warning and Backup complete notifications settings. You can also choose to send these messages to specified email address. After all required settings have been configured, enter project descriptions, and click Finish to send the backup job details to main interface.

Clicking Start on toolbar initiates the backup process; you can also restore the backup and extract the backed up archive container.

The Configuration dialog holds only application specific settings. It allows you to change the default HDD folder, apply limit on number of backup tasks that can be perform simultaneously, set size constraint on both Backup and Configuration files. The Startup and Notify tabs let you change program startup options, shortcut execution, and notification email settings, respectively. The Template tab enables you to add new templates, and specify pre-included and excluded file types. From Disk drives and Built-in CD/DVD burner tabs, you can disable auto-disk drive detection option and specify custom disk image path.

The DFIncBackup Home (free version) will wholly satisfy your routine file backup needs. However, if you want advance features like command line support, automatic swap to next partition on disk, run backup jobs in defined sequence, shortcuts for one-click backup, run pre and post backup job actions, you can upgrade it to Professional edition, which costs $ 29.95. It works on both server and client editions of Windows.

If you become the victim of a hard disk crash or someone steals your laptop, I’m sure that most of us worry more about our data rather than the device itself. Data backup acts as a life saver in these situations, where you will be left without gigabytes of data if you don’t regularly perform backup. CrashPlan is a cross-platform application to backup and restore data to local and remote PC’s. It can perform scheduled backups to an internal or external disk, another PC connected to the network, or on a friend’s computer over the internet. Read more about CrashPlan after the jump.

Before you can start using the application, it requires you to register an account with the service. Enter you Name, Email, Password, and click Create Account to complete the registration process.

To start the backup process, click the Backup tab at the left, and select files and folders for creating a backup from Select button.

Once the files & folders are selected, selected Destinations from the left panel, and specify the save location for your backup. You can choose to backup your data to a friend’s computer, between your own personal computers connected though LAN, or to an internally or externally attached hard drive. Once the backup folder is selected, click Start Backup to begin the process.

The files and folders to backup can be changed any time from the Backup tab. It also lets you perform manual backup of your data.

The Settings tab allows you to configure General, Backup Account, Security and Network settings, such as Name of Computer, Percentage of CPU to use, Alert Method, Backup Schedule and Frequency, Account Information, Account Password, Data Encryption and Limiting Data Sending Rate.

Select the Restore tab to restore your data, Friends tab to invite your friends to download and install the application or connect with them if they are already running CrashPlan, and History to view the complete log of actions performed by the application.

CrashPlan is available in both free and paid flavors, and the complete comparison can be viewed on the product page. It works on all 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows, and is also available for Mac OS X, Linux and Open Solaris.

If you diligently follow a work schedule (or try to follow one, at least), it is likely that you battle both your weak will and the force of procrastination when it’s time to get started. It usually isn’t easy to stop browsing Reddit, or close Facebook, and get to work. In the event that you do get down to a particular task, and find it somewhat annoying – if not time consuming – to launch a bunch of apps that you’ll need to get started, then LaunchOnTime is an app for Mac that will automate app launch for you, and help you get to work faster.

The app isn’t a to-do list manager in anyway; it simply allows you select a time for multiple apps to start on. After that, what you do with those apps is entirely up to you. In addition to helping you get to work faster, this app can also help you launch apps to perform a particular scheduled job or function.

To add apps to LaunchOnTime, click the Browse button and add an app. Alternatively, you can drag & drop an app onto the app’s window to add it. To set a time when an app should launch, select it, click Date-Time, and select a date and time for the app to start. Once you’ve scheduled a launch time for all apps, click Start, and a countdown will start for all scheduled apps. To manually launch all apps that you’ve added, regardless of their scheduled time and date, click Launch.

You can set your schedule to auto repeat itself from the app’s preferences. In the General tab, select a time period after which the whole process should be executed again. To receive email alerts for when a scheduled app start has been successfully executed, go to the Email Notifier in preferences, and set up an email account for receiving alerts.

The app is simply a scheduler for other apps, and nothing else. If you often find it annoying to come in to work and start multiple apps just to get down to work, then this could very likely come in handy.

Connection Planner is a simple yet very useful Android app that lets users schedule and lock status of various connections or profiles for Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, GPS as well as airplane and silent mode. By automatically disabling/locking Bluetooth and GPS as per scheduled timings, not only can the app save you quite a few minutes (or even hours) of battery life, but also prevents any apps from using these connections without your permission. Similarly, by automatically activating silent/airplane mode on your device, Connection Planner saves you from the hassle of toggling these profiles manually while you’re at work or travelling. Read on for further details.

Using Connection Planner, you can set multiple profiles for each of the aforementioned settings as per your requirement. Each custom profile can be activated for a particular day or the entire week. Likewise, you may pick specific timings of a day to trigger each profile automatically or keep it activated for the entire day.

Scheduling custom profiles and activating various controls from within the app is as simple as it gets. On the app’s homescreen, you have all the aforementioned controls arranged in separate tiles. The checkbox in each tile adds/removes an item to/from the scheduling mechanism. The lock button, if activated, prevents external apps from accessing or activating that particular setting. The button in the middle of each tile can be used to manually activate or deactivate each item, while the settings button takes you to its configuration screen from where you can easily set a preferred schedule for it.

On the settings screen, you can tap Menu > Add to create a new custom profile and assign desired days/timings at which you want it to be activated automatically. Once that is done, tap the save icon at the bottom. This will return you to the settings screen, where you may notice a mini calendar that indicates the days/instances for which the profile would remain Active or Inactive.

Once you’ve specified all the various settings under each required profile, all you need to do is activate Connection Planner from its homescreen.

Apart from reminding you of the app’s status via a notification bar icon, Connection Planner adds its own panel within the notification drawer, which keeps you apprised of what controls are currently activated/inactivated. Life would’ve been even simpler had the app let you toggle required controls from within this panel. You can, however, tap it to launch the app.

From within the app’s settings menu (Menu > Settings on the app’s homescreen) you can set the app to play a sound whenever a custom profile is activated and permanently disable profile settings for a specific item if it is manually modified by the user either from the device’s settings menu or from within another application.

A while back, we covered TimeMachineScheduler that enables users to replace the default Mac OS X Time Machine backup interval with custom backup schedule. The application has the ability to skip the backup operation within the user-defined time range and auto-mount the backup drive to seamlessly backup the system data. Today, we have stumbled across another Time Machine tweaking application, namely TimeMachineEditor, which has a slew of Time Machine backup schedule options. Unlike TimeMachineScheduler, it doesn’t require you to disable the Time Machine from System Preferences to tweak the system backup schedule. You can create a complete backup plan by specifying the day and time for creating regular backups. Other advance options to make daily, weekly and monthly data backups are also available.

TimeMachineEditor doesn’t change default system files to schedule and perform the backup operation; it deploys its own backup scheduling and triggering mechanism to set the time interval and backup the system data at defined location. To configure the backup schedule, launch the application, choose Interval from drop-down menu, and then enter the time interval (in hours).

If you want to run the backup operation at defined day and time, choose Calendar Intervals from drop-down menu at top, and then set the backup day and time. By default, it shows an option to make hourly, daily, weekly or monthly backups on specified day, but you can use add button to further refine the backup schedule. Clicking add button reveals option to make hourly, daily, weekly backups at specified time.

Upon clicking add button, it will let you specify the day for Monthly, day for Weekly,  and time for Daily option. For example, if you choose Monthly from the drop-down list, it will ask you to mention the day followed by time to schedule the backup operation.

Once you’ve set the backup schedule, click Apply to enter the admin username and password to make changes to Time Machine backup schedule.

TimeMachineEditor comes particularly useful for those who don’t make quite a lot of changes to their system and user data, and want to use custom backup schedule instead of Time Machine’s hourly backup interval option. It works on a Mac OS X Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion.

Mac OS X native backup utility, namely Time Machine, offers the easiest solution to backup data on external storage mediums and Time Capsules, but doesn’t allow changing the default backup time interval. If you’re looking for an application that can replace hourly backup schedule with custom backup time interval, TimeMachineScheduler is what you probably need. It’s a standalone application that lets you disable the Time Machine default backup interval function, and replace it with user-defined backup schedule settings without having to fiddle around with com.apple.backupd-auto.plist. You can set backup interval from 1 to 12 hours, and skip the backup operation within the specified time range.

TimeMachineScheduler installs itself as a System Preference pane. Before you set the backup schedule, it’s recommended to completely disable the Time Machine. Once done, select TimeMachineScheduler from System Preferences and from Scheduler section, click Install. This will start the installation of backup scheduler. After the process is finished, you can change Backup Interval settings including both default interval and skip backup time.

First off, set the backup interval time from the slider and then specify the time when you don’t want to perform the backup operation. For instance, if you want to run backup after every 6 hour except between 3 AM and 5 AM, move the slider to 6 and then specify the time range. The application lets you hide the backup volume as well as enable auto mount option for specified Backup Volume. To change these settings, first plug in the backup drive and then launch the TimeMachineScheduler to enable/disable Automount and Invisible options.

It works on Mac 10.5 and higher.

FBackup is a backup utility for Windows that can create and manage backups of files and folders. The backups can be sorted on local, removable or remote locations. It allows you to protect your data by scheduling tasks and password protecting your backups. The data can be stored in original form, or in compressed archives to save disk space. Filters are available to exclude temporary data from your backups and run predefined backup tasks such as My Documents, My Pictures, Outlook Express etc.

The interface has New, Open, Views, Copy, Properties, Delete, Backup, Restore, Cancel and Refresh buttons at the top. The backup jobs appear at the left, while details of the backup appear at the right side of the interface.

To start making backups, click New to enable a wizard which will guide you through the backup process. In the first step, enter Backup Name and choose the save location of backup. When everything is set up, click Next.

Then, select the folders that you want to backup. Click Add Folder to add folders to the backup list and click Add Files to add files to the list. To exclude and include temporary internet files, choose Exclude or Include from the Type drop down menu at the lower right corner.

You can either select the folders manually, or select a predefined backup task from the drop down menu at the top. The default backup tasks include FBackup Configurations, My Documents, My Pictures, Outlook Express and Windows Mail. Click Next when everything is set up.

In the next step, choose the type of backup from Make Full or Mirror. Selecting Mirror will save the files and folders in their original form while Make Full will compress the backup into a ZIP archive. Choose Yes and enter a password to encrypt your backup. Click Next when done.

Define the parameters for scheduling the backups. Configure How often?, What Day?, What hour?, User and Password, click Save and select Save and Run to start the backup process. 

The details of the backup process will be shown in the right side of the application. You can create and save multiple backup tasks in the same way. We only covered the basic method of making a backup but this application has more options that are not included in this review. FBackup works on all version of Windows.

A while back, we covered MyTVrss, which is a web service for keeping track of your favorite TV Shows. Recently, we came across a similar, yet more comprehensive, desktop application, known as TV-Browser. It enables users to obtain TV channels’ schedules from its online database, including BBC World, ESPN, Cartoon Network, ANIMAX, AXN, Sky Sports and more. You can add programs to favorites (from TV Channel schedules), and install plugins for acquiring program details, reminders and the like. Moreover, it is a cross-platform application, and therefore is compatible with Mac- and Linux-based OS.

The installation wizard lets you easily configure preferences for adding channels to custom schedule list, as well as additional plugins for enhancing TV-Browser functionality.

The main interface displays the specified channel’s schedule for a selected date in left sidebar, while other channels are displayed in the list underneath the calendar.

To add/remove channels from the list, head over to TV listings –> Add/Remove channels. This will take you to the Channels section within application Options. Other preferences can be used to configure time zone settings (for receiving updates according to your time zone). It also lets you change the position of items on the main interface, adjust graphical settings, manage plugins and add/remove context menu options.

TV-Browser is an open source application that works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Mac OS X and Linux.

If you ever had problems with volume of your PC being too loud at odd times, Volume Concierge is here to help. The application has been developed to automatically change the volume of your PC. All you need is to define the time and volume percentage to schedule volume control rule. The application lets you set days and time to run volume control rules at scheduled intervals. You can add multiple schedules for different date and time, turn each schedule on/off and edit them. The application also displays a warning if one schedule comes in conflict with another.

Volume Concierge has an Add New Volume Rule button on the bottom-left corner. Clicking it will allow you to add a new schedule.

For the first time usage, it requires activation. The activation is free and just requires you to specify your email address.

Once activated, you can start adding schedules according to your preferences. To make changes, turn on the schedule by clicking ON/OFF. From a drop down menu, you can choose to run the schedule Every Day, only on Work Days or only on Weekends. The time settings are available in intervals of 15 minutes. Adjusting the Volume Bar changes the percentage of volume to be set at the defined time. Volume Concierge prevents you from adding two schedules with same day and time. On closing the window, it will be minimized to system tray, from where you can open the configuration console, disable auto-run and quit the application.

Sadly, it doesn’t let you choose time of the schedule other than the listed time interval of 15 minute. It also doesn’t allow you to choose the days, other than three day specific options, on which you want to run the schedule. Volume Concierge works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Android-using students have been in luck the past few weeks with so many student planners coming to the Android Market - School Schedule and Studious, just to name a few. While both the aforementioned apps  as well as other apps from the genre come with extensive class management features, not all of them sport a homescreen widget neither do any of these apps offer help to calculate your marks for a particular course. This is where My Class Schedule comes in. Details after the break.

My Class Schedule lets you pick different shades of colors for your various courses for easy identification. The app takes you straight to your class schedule/timetable when launched. From here you can see all your upcoming classes for a particular day or even for several weeks (by swiping across the screen). To make the app capable enough to help you out with your lesson timings/schedule, you need to help it out first by feeding in some data. You can take a couple of routes in order to achieve said purpose. Either you can tap on Menu > Manage Courses or you can use the pencil icon at the top-right of your screen to start adding some courses and other relevant information. For each course that you wish to add/edit, you are provided with an option to modify its General details, Homework description and your Marks (grade).

From the General tab, you can provide a name for your course as well as for the teacher, set a different color for that course and add detailed schedule for every single lesson by tapping the plus (+) sign. While on the Edit Lesson screen, you can add/edit information such as room info, class start/end time, weekdays (when the lessons would occur), starting date and the frequency of recurrence of that particular lesson (on weekly basis).

The Homework tab lets you add/edit the description of your homework for a particular course. Tap on the plus (+) sign to add a description and mark it checked when done. Details pertaining to all your homework can be viewed by tapping Menu > Homework.

From the Marks tab, you can add your marks for that course along with specifying the weighted average. You can add multiple marks for a specific course (each time you appear in a test/exam) and the app automatically calculates the average marks for you.

The app, like other apps from the genre, has an auto-silent feature as well. While on the app’s homescreen, tap Menu > Settings and enable the Mute during lessons option. The name says it all!

In addition, you also have the My Class Schedule homescreen widget for quick access. The widget is available in a couple of sizes.

To add a widget to your homescreen, long press on a vacant area and select Widgets > My Class Schedule from the menu. As mentioned earlier, the widget displays your upcoming classes along with the day, course, timing and room number. Although lagging a bit behind on aesthetics, My Class Schedule is purely meant to help you out with keeping a close tab on your classes, homework and most importantly, your fast falling average! Once added, you can perform search within added account folders, events and scheduled meetings. To filter search results by subject, body text, sender, type, data and attachments, use the respective links present below the search bar.

Scheduling meetings and conferences is easy. Just select Schedule call with None option, enter the required data with recipient name and click Send.

The conference call scheduling option is available underneath the Schedule meeting with None. Before you add details, make sure that you’ve already entered Dialin Number and passcode in Conference window accessible from Preferences. InboxEx brings an easy way to archive mails. From Options window, you can specify number of weeks after which old emails will automatically be moved to archive folder.

InboxEx is handy tool for those users who work with multiple teams and need to collaborate on group work, share availability and events with others, search important emails and schedule meetings and conferences. We tested InboxEx on Windows 7 (64-bit) running Outlook 2010.

Folder Replica is a job-based file synchronization utility that lets you create a list of sync jobs for different folders and locations and process them in one go. Folder Replica provides 3 sync modes; Backup Advanced (from Folder A to B), Folder Sync (Union of A and B folder data), and Copy Missing files (from A to B) along with a complementary mode to Delete Duplicates in B (target folder). For user’s convenience, the interface is divided into 2 panes, representing folder A and B sections, respectively. Just like any other backup utility, it provides you with a preview of sync job results before actually executing them. This enables you to check out all those files and folders which will be affected by the sync operations. Additionally, it allows you to schedule sync/backup jobs on specified days of week. You can mention the time of day to automatically run scheduled sync jobs and enable logging to find the problems it may face while performing the data synchronization operations.

First off, select the source directory from left side and target location from side B. Once selected, choose synchronization mode and click Add to Synchronize Job List to add to job list. You can also analyze the job results from Analyze/Synchronize Now option and preview all the files and folder which will be deleted, updated, moved, etc.

Once job is added to list, you can choose another set of folders with required sync mode to add another sync job to list. When all settings are in place, click Process Job List to begin synchronization process. The output console at the bottom of the screen shows the files and folders which are being synced with target location.

To schedule sync jobs and tweak with application’s general settings, click Schedule Job List Processing. In Configuration window, you can schedule jobs, enable copy/move and delete actions, specify actions for conflict resolution . From right-side, select the days of week to schedule the sync jobs. You can also enter time of sync jobs run which are scheduled on defined days and enable sync job logging. Once done, click Activate Schedule followed by Save Configuration.

Your sync jobs will run on specified days and time. Folder Replica also lets you add and manage Favorite Sync jobs. You can add as many jobs as you want and execute them with a single click without having to specify source and target folders and sync mode. FolderReplica is donationware and works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

On the toolbar, you have options to add new task, edit selected tasks, and importantly to manually run the scheduled application, file, or script.

Task Till Dawn supports Growl notifications which can be enabled from Preferences window. In Preferences window, you can also send it to menu bar to quickly access scheduled application list, run scheduled applications, files, and scripts.

Task Till Dawn is a java-based application and requires latest JRE (Java Runtime Environment) version to run.

QtdSync is a portable backup application with scheduling options to backup data to a local or remote location. It is actually a GUI for rsync which functions in two modes; Differentiell (which only backups changes) and Synchronize Only (which saves the backup folder with updates of the newest version only). You can create multiple backup sets and restore them later at your convenience. QtdSync works on both Windows and Linux based operating systems, but Windows users get additional features like folder binding, configuration of multiple virtual folders and drag/drop support.

To get started, select folders to backup and select a backup criteria, i.e. Diferentiell or Synchronization. You can also name different backup sets with custom names for easy identification. Once the folders are selected, click on Run Backup to continue.

You will receive a prompt to save the file either at the location of the Qtd file, the Qtd drive, and at the absolute path of the current computer. Select a destination to proceed further.

This will backup your data at the selected location.

Data can also be backed up to a remote location by selecting the Remote SSH Path option. Once this option is selected, you can enter your server’s credentials to establish a connection to it for backing up data.

You can schedule your backup according to a date, time, and at system startup.

Using QTdSync, you can backup data on a periodic basis to a local or remote location. What makes Qtdsync different from other backup applications is the fact that it saves data in raw form instead of altering it. While this may consume more disk space, it also circumvents the problem of unpacking files or relying on the restoration features of QtdSync. You can restore data anytime, from Restore Folder option.

QtdSync is an open source GUI application (does not require rsync) which works on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux based operating systems.

Ever since I laid my hands on my first Android device, one of the few things that really had me flustered was the Calendar application and its many features. The large number of separate fields that have to be filled just to add a simple meeting with one of your friends to the calendar can turn out to be quite a hassle and can easily distract you from the actual purpose itself. Quick Event for Android is an intelligent app that extracts all the required parameters (date, time, duration, location etc.) for a calendar event from simple text entered by the user and adds them to their respective fields within the native calendar. Effectively, Quick Event works in the same way as Google Calendar’s much-applauded Quick Add feature.

With Quick Event, you can simply type in a text message that carries all the details of an event you wish to add to the calendar and leave the rest to the app. For instance, if you want to add a reminder for your own birthday through Quick Event, you may simply type in “My birthday on March 11”. Once you insert the text into Quick Event, it automatically creates a new event for the mentioned date within the calendar of your device. The best thing about this app is that it syncs with the native Calendar app of your Android device, which means that any event that you create with Quick Event automatically gets added to the native Calendar.

The only blemish with Quick Event is that it is currently available in English Language only. However, the future releases promise to bring many more advanced features for the users including the mush sought after support for multiple languages. Scheduling a meeting is a corporate nightmare where agendas are lost, time is forgotten and many people say they didn’t get the memo. Meetin.gs is a web service that offers a solution to scheduling meetings and making sure everyone is kept to up to date on all changes. It provides a singular platform for creating meetings (topic, date, time and duration), inviting participants, adding agendas and collaborating with other participants.

You can manage multiple meetings using this web service. It has a simple dashboard view that lets you see all meetings that you’ve scheduled and all updates for the meetings. Meeting time and agendas can be edited and different files (images and documents) can be added to a meeting. Participants don’t necessarily have to sign up for an account; they receive a unique link to a page that has details of the meeting, all updates and documents are accessible without the user needing to signup or sign in.

You can send invites with the standard message text or edit it and include a personal note of your own. If you’ve added meetings before, you can also choose participants from previous meetings. Participants are updated about changes to a meeting via email. If there are multiple changes to a meeting, they are mailed in a single email to reduce excessive annoying mail clutter in your participant’s inbox.

The service is currently invite only; you can sign up at the site and request an invite. Each new account is allowed to send three invites.

Twitter’s desktop applications are numerous, some with great flexibility and control, others with pleasing aesthetics, and still others with both. However, TweetTwain Lite brings a rather new feature, tweet scheduling and automation. This small and easy to use application will allow you to manage all your tweets, schedule them, view notifications for new ones, search and follow new users, etc. It also displays notifications for new tweets as balloon pop-ups in the notification area.

The program comes with a one-window interface with buttons on the top row for various features. Hovering mouse over each button lets a user see the function that it performs.

First up is the Tweet Queue, which will let you see those tweets that you have scheduled for automatic publishing. The blue bird icon will let you add a new tweet to the queue. TweetTwain also supports automatic URL shortening using bit.ly.

The briefcase-shaped icon takes you to the tweet archive, where you can see the tweets that the program has published for you. Next to that you get the search and follow feature, where you can search for any user or brand and automatically follow it (optionally).

The RSS icon lets you add any feed to be monitored, and automatically tweet all the new posts. The next two globe icons lets you start and stop the scheduler, respectively. The last icon will minimize the program to system tray so that it continues to run in the background.

Note: Once the files have been extracted you can run Rocket Launcher by going to the folder where the files reside. You do not need to run the extracting wizard again and again.

To add a new program to the list, click Add New. Now enter the destination of that application, choose the argruments(which is not compulsory), select the day/time, and click Save.

With Windows 7 / Vista many standard applications such as Windows Firewall got a face lift, the Disk Defragmenter interface changed to a dialog box with an added task scheduler support to schedule defragmentation of your hard drive. Since now it works on scheduled time, it automatically starts defragmenting as soon as the scheduled time is missed, which can cause disk thrashing and computer to slow down. Instead of letting Windows 7 /  Vista to decide when to start defragmentation you should decide when and how it should run.

The new Disk Defragmenter interface looks like this:

It offers only three options in Modify Schedule which are how often, what day and what time, that doesn’t give us more control over when and how it should be performed.

To fine tune disk defragmentation schedule open Task Scheduler, click Start and type Task Scheduler in the Search bar.

In Task manager application, navigate to the following:

Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > Defrag

How To Optimize

To start optimizing the schedule, double click on ScheduledDefrag, now click on the Triggers tab and double click on the Weekly trigger, which will open the Edit Trigger dialog box and allow you to edit the schedule.

Here you can change either to run defrag or to disable it completely. You can also control how it runs by using the Advanced settings, to start automatic disk defragmentation other than on scheduled time, click on the Begin the task drop down and make selection that best fits when you want to start defragmentation.

After you have made your changes on the Trigger tab, click OK.

How To Stop Unexpected Defragmentation

To stop disk thrashing at unexpected times, click on the Conditions tab.

From here you can control how to auto defrag at idle time (idle time denotes the time when there is no activity on the Computer). You can see the default three minutes of idle time is a little quick and will start defragmenting the drives when you are least expecting it. This is one of the reasons why you see disk activity at odd times.

How To Control Defragmentation Behavior

To control the behavior when the scheduled time is missed, click on the Settings tab.

This tab lets you decide when to run the task if the scheduled time was missed, if it failed to start, and when to stop it after a long period of time. After you have made your changes on the Settings tab, click OK.
